De La Hoya: I think Mayweather will fight Canelo

floyd#300 Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions believes that WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will choose to fight De La Hoya’s fighter WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September on the Mexican Independence holiday, and he feels that Canelo has a great chance of winning the fight.

De La Hoya said this as quoted by holylosangeles.com “I know Mayweather wants the fight, and he’ll take the fight. Many say that Mayweather is not the same fighter, but we saw that he still is against [Robert] Guerrero, but Canelo is not Guerrero. Nobody is invincible. No fighter retires undefeated…even the best in the world has to lose.”

Groves has good idea who’ll win between Froch and Kessler on Saturday

Unbeaten George Groves sparred with both IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch and WBA champion Mikkel Kessler, and he feels knows who’s going to be the clear winner on Saturday night based on his sparring sessions. He won’t say who it’ll be though, but you can guess that Kessler will be the guy that comes out on top in this one.

Groves said to the telegraph.co.uk “I’ve sparred with both. I spared with Carl before his first fight with Kessler in 2010. I suppose I’ve had a better look at both of them than most have, and for me there’s a clear winner, but I can’t really share. It wouldn’t be fair to the lads.”

Matthysse: I want Pacquiao

WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) doesn’t mind being called the new Manny Pacquiao, but he much rather get a fight against the aging Filipino fighter before he retires or ends up getting knocked out again. Matthysse knocked out Lamont Peterson in the 3rd round last Saturday night, and at the post-fight press conference, Matthysse’s promoter Richard Schaefer called him the new Pacquiao.

This was Matthysse’s 6th straight knockout and he’s looking really powerful right now and similar to how Pacquiao looked in his prime.

Matthysse said “I didn’t imagine I would knock him [Peterson] out so fast. I was expecting a tougher fight. I’m happy to be compared to Manny Pacquiao, but what I want to do is fight him.”

Froch brands Groves and Cleverly “Bitter and Jealous”

Boxing fans should already be aware that on Saturday the 25th of May, Nottinghamshire warrior, Carl Froch, will be fighting in his long awaited rematch with Mikkel Kessler at the 02 Arena. The first bout was a captivating toe to toe war and it is believed that this Super Middleweight contest will also be a battle for the ages.

In the build up to the fight there have been no real hiccups. This is a far cry from the volcanic ash cloud fiasco, one that Froch rather dubiously blamed for his loss in their 2010 match-up. However, there has still been some room for dissatisfaction in the Froch camp. He is allegedly enraged by George Groves’s and Nathan Cleverly’s decision to assist Kessler in sparring. As a result, has labelled the duo “bitter and jealous” in a cutting tirade of abuse.

Magee: Kessler will beat Froch again

Former WBA super middleweight champion Brian Magee is picking the current WBA 168 lb. champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) to beat IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) this Saturday night in their pay per view fight at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Magee has fought both guys in the past, and he feels that Kessler is the far better fighter of the two.

Magee said to Sky Sports News “I think Kessler’s going to outbox him…he knows how to beat him, he has beaten him before and this time he is going to beat him better.”

Matthysse uses rights and lefts to answer ?’s about Havoc

Lucas Martin Mattysse was matched against Lamont “Havoc” Peterson Saturday night at the Broadwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Business Journal explains to its white collared readers, it’s necessary to find answers to 12 elaborate questions in order to successfully deal with “havoc” The dictionary tells us havoc is a “….. wide and general destructive” force. But, Lucas Martin Mattysse an easier remedy. He chose to create synonyms like confusion, ……………. disarrangement, disarray,……….. disshevelment, …..and disorder …..” all of which were dealt out with his left and right punches. Kayo artists like Mattysse are really fun to watch.

The fantastical results that occur when their gloves make contact is incredible. Heavy handed is often used to describe the kind of unimaginable real havoc they can wreak. Because of that Poor Lamont never had a chance to gather any kind of storm clouds of his own.

Fury to Deontay: If you beat Kevin Johnson, I’ll give you a fight

fury1 Heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) has ignored American heavyweight contender Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder’s attempts to get him in the ring despite it being a fight that would help Fury in a huge way if he won. However, Fury now is saying that he’ll agree to fight Deontay if he beats Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson (29-3-1, 15 KO’s), a guy that Fury easily beat by a 12 round unanimous decision last December.

Fury said on his social media site: “At Bronzebomber [Deontay Wilder], if you can beat Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson, I’ll definitely give you your fight with me!!!! What do you say? I know Kevin will fight.”

I don’t think for a second that Fury, #5 WBO, #6 WBC, #8 IBF, would hold up his end of the bargain if Deontay did take the fight with Johnson and knock him out. Without it being written in a contract, Fury could then just ignore Wilder like before and continue to fight other guys.

Matthysse: I’ll fight Mayweather or Canelo

WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse is really hoping that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia will step up to the plate on September 7th and agree to fight him. However, Matthysse is concerned that Garcia might not agree to the fight because he looked worried last Saturday night after Matthysse dispatched Lamont Peterson in three rounds at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

If Garcia decides it’s too dangerous a fight for him then Matthysse says he’s open to moving up in weight to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Saul “Canelo” Alvarez if either of them are interested in the fight.

Mason N. (Bronx, NYC): I never saw the Matthysse victory over Peterson coming the way it did! Your Facebook post was almost spot on! What did you see coming into the fight that Peterson and a few of us didn’t?

Vivek W.: Although I predicted a Matthysse victory via split decision, the main premise of my argument that supported him winning was the fact that I don’t think we ever quite knew what we had in Peterson. We saw him gut out a few tough victories, but we also saw him buzzed quite a bit, and actually dropped 3 times in the past. One of those knockdowns came at the hands Timothy Bradley who has never been known as a hard puncher, highlighted in his abysmal 11 knockouts in 30 pro fights. When we look at the core of those knockdowns and those near knockdowns, each and every time they came as a result of his reckless penchant for staying in the pocket and trying to bang.

De La Hoya: Who do you want to see this super hero [Canelo] fight?

It looks like Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions is referring to WBA/WBC light middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as a “super hero” now following his controversial 12 round decision win over Austin Trout last month in a fight that Canelo appeared to be greatly helped by the open scoring, as well as some very, very generous scores by the three judges that worked that fight. A super hero that failed to prove that he’s better than Trout.

De La Hoya said tonight on his twitter “Who wants to see this super hero [Canelo]? And with who?”

De La Hoya was immediately bombarded with people saying that Canelo should fight WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and that he should fight someone his own size [172 lbs]. That probably wasn’t the answer that De La Hoya was hoping to get because Golovkin is a fighter that Golden Boy appears to be steering a wide path around him when it comes to matching Canelo up.
