Demetrius Andrade (24-0, 16 KOs) had a better engine in powering past WBA World junior middleweight champion Jack Culcay (22-2, 11 KOs) in defeating him by a 12 round split decision on Saturday night in front of a large pro-Culcay crowd at the Friedrich-Ebert Halle in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The taller 6’1” Andrade threw more punches, and did a good job of using his height to his benefit in defeating Culcay.
Results: Keith Thurman defeats Danny Garcia by split decision
WBA World 147 lb. champion Keith Thurman (28-0, 22 KOs) defeated the previously unbeaten WBC champ Danny Garcia (33-1, 19 KOs) by a 12 round split decision to become the WBA/WBC champion on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Thurman hurt Garcia on three occasions early in the fight with his big power shots.
Results: Deontay Wilder stops Gerald Washington
WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) has to come from behind to beat a surprisingly good #8 WBC Gerald Washington (18-1-1, 12 KOs) by a 5th round TKO on Saturday night at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham. Alabama. Wilder kept his offensive weapons under wraps until the 5th round when he hurt Washington with a devastating right hand to the head.

Using his hand speed and punching power advantage, #1 WBC 122lb contender Ray Vargas (29-0, 22 KOs) boxed his way to a 12 round majority decision tonight over #2 WBC Gavin McDonnell (16-1-2, 4 Kos) to win the vacant WBC super bantamweight title at the Hull Ice Arena in Hull, England. It was a nice effort from both fighters. McDonnell came up short based on the speed and pinpoint accuracy of the 26-year-old Mexican Vargas.
Results: Eleider Alvarez stops Lucian Bute
Eleider Alvarez (22-0, 11 KOs) had too much for 36-year-old Lucian Bute (32-4-1, 25 KOs) tonight in halting him in round 5 of a fairly one-sided fight on Friday evening at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City. The win for Eleider locks him in as the WBC mandatory challenger for WBC 175lb champion Adonis Stevenson.

Adrian Granados (18-5-2, 11 KOs) found out the hard way how hard it is to beat Adrien “The Problem” Broner (33-2, 24 KOs) in his own hometown on Saturday night in losing to him by a 10 round split decision at the Cintas Center, Cincinnati, Ohio. Broner reportedly wanted the fight to be a 10 round bout rather than a 12 rounder.
Results: Lamont Peterson defeats David Avanesyan
Lamont Peterson (35-3-1, 18 KOs) emerged victorious on Saturday night in handing WBA ‘regular’ welterweight champion David Avanesyan (22-2-1, 11 KOs) a clear 12 round unanimous decision at the Cintas Center, Cincinnati, Ohio. It was a good performance from Peterson, who came into the fight having been out of the ring since 2015.
Results: Roy Jones Jr. TKOs Bobby Gunn
Roy Jones Jr. took care of his over-matched opponent Bobby Gunn tonight in defeating him by an 8th round TKO in a fight that looked more like an exhibition bout than a real one at the Chase Center in Wilmington, DE. The fight was brought to a halt in the 8th. Gunn’s trainer stopped the fight at the start of round 8. The fight should have been stopped immediately after the 7th, as Gunn looked hurt and in bad shape.

In a one-sided fight, IBF lightweight title holder Robert Easter Jr. (19-0, 14 KOs) had an easy time pounding out a 12 round unanimous decision tonight over fringe contender Luis Cruz (22-5-1, 16 KOs) at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio. Cruz made a fight of it, but he didn’t have the weapons to compete on an even playing field with the 26-year-old Easter Jr.
