Eddie Chambers would welcome the chance to test Anthony Joshua in 2015

Eddie Chambers would welcome the chance to test Anthony Joshua in 2015

Former world heavyweight title challenger ‘Fast’ Eddie Chambers likes what he has seen of fast-rising prospect Anthony Joshua, but fears his run of soft opposition may only serve to hurt him in the future.

The 32-year-old Chambers, once of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, now an honorary member of Team Fury in Bolton, speaks from experience. Back in March 2010 he scaled the heights and challenged Wladimir Klitschko for the world heavyweight championship. He therefore knows a good heavyweight when he sees one.

“At the moment they’re doing a good job of making Joshua look unbeatable,” said Chambers. “The only problem with that is you get to a point where that’s all you’re used to. Then you get in there with somebody who can prove you’re very beatable. Then panic sets in. Then you realise you have no foundations or experience to fall back on.

Roach: It won’t be difficult for Pacquiao to take Algieri’s jab away

Trainer Freddie Roach isn’t worried about Chris Algieri’s right hand for his fight against WBO 147 pound champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) on November 22nd. Roach’s main concern is to take away the jab from Algieri to keep him from using it to control the shorter Pacquiao, because Algieri has made it clear that he’s going to be jabbing Pacquiao all night long to keep him from getting his powerful shots off.

Roach thinks he’s got the perfect plan to take that jab away, and get Pacquiao in position for him to score a rare knockout.

The bigger, faster, and younger Tommy Coyle (20-2, 9 KOs) took out Michael Katsidis (30-7, 24 KOs) in the 2nd round on Saturday night at the Hull Arena in Hull, England. Katsidis, 34, was pressuring Coyle at the time, and he was caught by a fast left hook that dropped him on all fours on the canvas. When Katsidis got to his feet, he staggered briefly while being checked out by referee Marcus McDonnell, and that was all it took for him stop the fight.

The fight was officially stopped at 1:33 of the round. Katsidis stopped staggered and looked like he was ready to continue fighting, but McDonnell wasn’t going to let him continue. The shot that Coyle threw wasn’t a really big punch. It was just a case of Katsidis not having his guard up, and him not being ready for the punch.
