Hearn Still Loving The Idea Of Making A Deontay Wilder-Dillian Whyte Fight

There is no doubt former heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder has a lot going on in his head right about now, and not all of it is good. In fact, is there anything good going on with “The Bronze Bomber?” With his war of words with former co-trainer Mark Breland proving both unsettling and shocking, Wilder has plenty of people wondering about his mental state.

Will Wilder ever fight again? In the opinion of Eddie Hearn, the ring could be the best place for him this year. Hearn, in speaking with Sky Sports, said he feels Wilder “needs to get back in the ring.” And, after the former WBC heavyweight ruler has done so (if he, in fact, ever does so), Hearn would like nothing better than to make a fight between Wilder and Dillian Whyte.

Hearn has been almost salivating over the idea of making this fight/seeing this fight for some time. And although the promoter fully acknowledges that Whyte has to win that crunch rematch with Alexander Povetkin before he can even think about anything else, Hearn says that, in his opinion, a Wilder Vs. Whyte fight is “outside of AJ against Fury, one of the biggest fights in boxing.”

“I think there’s a lot of unrest in that team (Wilder),” Hearn said. “Obviously Mark Breland and Jay Deas and Shelly Finkel and Al Haymon, the old saying, ‘Too many cooks spoil the broth.’ Sometimes a massive team of people that aren’t actually on the same boat can be a disaster. I think in that team now, it’s so disjointed and fragmented, that I don’t know what they’re going to do. I’ll let them sort their problems. I hope to see Wilder in the ring. Good fighter, great for the sport of boxing. I think Deontay needs to get back in the ring. I certainly wouldn’t be looking to put him in with Dilian Whyte straight off the bat. He needs a fight, in my opinion.”

Indeed, what else will Wilder do if he doesn’t resume his fighting career? Wilder, his fans and supporters agree, needs to try and redeem himself, he needs to try and put all this nonsense behind him and get back to doing what he does best, and that’s knock guys out in spectacular fashion. One of the good things about the heavyweight division is it can take just one big or spectacular win, and a beaten fighter is right back near the top.

Wilder needs to launch a comeback, and a fight with Whyte would be a huge event. A genuine grudge-match, Wilder Vs. Whyte would also be absolutely explosive (off the top of your head, how many knockdowns do you think this fight would see!) But can Whyte get revenge over Povetkin, and can Wilder get his head together? Come to think of it, both Wilder and Whyte need to prove they have what it takes to come back this year.
