WBO super flyweight world champion Naoya “The Monster” Inoue (14-0, 12 KOs) easily took care of Antonio “Carita” Nieves (17-2-2, 9 KOs) in beating him by a 6th round retirement stoppage on Saturday night on the “SuperFly” card at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Nieves’ corner let the referee know after round 6 that he wouldn’t be coming out for the 7th. Inoue knocked Nieves down in round 5 with a shot to the midsection. Nieves took a knee and beat the count. Inoue continued to try and go after Nieves to knock him out, but he did a good job of moving to keep out of range.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0, 27 KOs) looked old, slow and weak tonight but he was still able to wear down and halt novice fighter Conor McGregor (0-1) in stopping him in the 10th round on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather was hitting a very tired McGregor at will in round 10, which led to referee Robert Byrd stepping in and stopping the fight.

Miguel Cotto (41-5. 33 KOs) battered #6 WBO Yoshihiro Kamegai (27-4-2, 24 KOs) in winning an easy 12 round unanimous decision to capture the vacant WBO junior middleweight title on Saturday night at the StubHub Center, in Carson, California. It’ll be interesting to see if Cotto defends the WBO belt or if he moves up to middleweight for his final fight of his career in December.

Conor McGregor proved a lot of boxing fans wrong today in making weight at 153 lbs. for his mega-fight against 40-year-old Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. McGregor not only made weight, he also won the event in trash talking Mayweather from start to finish during the face off.

McGregor got the crowd on his side with his animated behavior on stage, and just with the charisma that surrounded him. There was no competition. McGregor, 29, was like a star on stage at the weigh-in on Friday. In contrast, Mayweather kind of blended into the background, as if he wasn’t even there.

WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (32-0, 23 Kos) got the better of IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Julius Indongo (22-1, 11 KOs) in beating him by a knockout in round 3 of their unification bout on ESPN and ESPN Deportes on Saturday night at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Crawford ended the fight with a body should in round 3. Indongo couldn’t get up off the canvas to bet the count. The fight was promptly stopped by referee Jack Reiss. The time of the stoppage came at 1:38 of the 3rd.

In a showcase fight, unbeaten the NABF and NABO light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk (14-0, 12 KOs) defeated the capable Craig Baker (17-2, 13 KOs) by a 6th round knockout on the undercard of the Terence Crawford vs. Julius Indongo card on Saturday night at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Gvozdyk vs. Baker fight was televised on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. Gvozdyk, 30, put Baker down on the canvas with a right hand in round 6. The fight was stopped after Baker got back to his feet and took some punishing blows from Gvozdyk.

WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KOs) took featherweight Miguel Marriaga (25-3, 21 KOs) to school on Saturday night in handing him his second consecutive loss in stopping him at the end of the 7th round at the Microsoft theater in Los Angeles, California.

Lomachenko toyed with Marriaga for 6 rounds until upping the pressure on him in the 7th to get a knockdown. Marriaga didn’t look hurt. He went down from an accumulation of punches. Nevertheless, Marriaga was taking a lot of machine gun type punches to the head and body from Lomachenko, and he didn’t have the hand speed or the work rate to keep him off of him.

Super middleweight Chris Eubank Jr. (25-1, 19 KOs) did a job in beating 37-year-old former world champion “King” Arthur Abraham (46-6, 30 KOs) by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision in front of a large crowd at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

Eubank Jr. used a lot of uppercuts and flurries to beat the German Abraham by the scores 118-110, 118-110, and 120-108. Eubank Jr. was showboating for much of the fight, showing little in the way of respect for Abraham, who couldn’t muster enough offense to make it a fight.
