Team Abdusalamov Establishing Trust for Their Injured Fighter and Family

abduslamov6Sampson Lewkowicz, promoter of hospitalized Russian heavyweight Magomed “Mago” Abdusalamov, along with promoters Leon Margules and Lou DiBella, and with help and support of others in the industry, are establishing a fund and to donate and raise funds to help alleviate the financial burden the unfortunate brain injury Abdusalamov suffered Saturday night has placed on him and his family.

32-year-old Abdusalamov had to have emergency surgery to remove a blood clot, and part of his skull had to be removed to reduce swelling, following his brutal 10-round war against Mike Perez at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, on Saturday, November 2. The fight was also broadcast worldwide on HBO.

Golovkin Retains WBA Strap with Win over Stevens

golovkin451On Saturday night, Gennady Golovkin defeated Curtis Stevens in front of nearly 5,000 fans at the Theater in Madison Square Garden. Golovkin won by TKO as Stevens’ uncle and trainer Andre Rozier stopped the fight after round eight. The victory takes “Triple G’s” record to 28-0 (25 KOs), while Stevens falls to 25-4 (18 KOs).

“I give myself a grade of 10,” Golovkin said after the fight. “I am ready to fight anybody, but specifically I want to fight Sergio Martinez.”

Gennady, I’ve got news for you. We want you to fight Martinez too. Golovkin already has a February 1, 2014 fight date set in Monte Carlo. No doubt he won’t get Martinez on that date, as Sergio’s team is trying to lock up a fight with Miguel Cotto.

Donaire: I’m looking for a knockout

donaire12352Nonito Donaire (31-2, 20 KO’s) plans on leaving no doubts about who the better fighter is this Saturday night in his HBO televised fight against 37-year-old Vic Darchinyan (39-5-1, 28 KO’s) at the American Bank Center, in Corpus Christi, Texas, USA.

Donaire, 30, wants to go out quickly and score a knockout over Darchinyan to make sure that he doesn’t get his own offense in gear.

The last time they fought in 2007, Donaire had to take some hard shots from Darchinyan for four rounds before getting him out of there in the 5th round with a big left hook that Darchinyan ran into.

This time Donaire wants to finish off Darchinyan will before the 5th by nailing him with something big in the first couple of rounds before he’s had a chance to get warmed up.

DeGale wants Froch to KO Groves

froch678James DeGale thinks George Groves (19-0, 15 KO’s) is wasting his time with his efforts to try and unnerve IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) before their fight this month on November 23rd in Manchester, UK. Groves has Froch pretty flustered looking in their meeting on Sky Ringside last Thursday to the point where Groves felt that Froch was on verge of tears. DeGale thinks Froch is too good to lose to Groves .

DeGale said to the Daily Mail “George really believes he is going to win this fight but I have no idea where he gets his confidence. He comes across on TV like a cocky schoolboy but he’s kidding himself that he’s getting to Carl psychologically…I want him to knock him out. And I believe he will do that.”

Arum says Pacquiao may be finished if he loses to Rios

pac6766 (2)The significance of Manny Pacquiao’s fight with Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) this month may be a lot more than what many people think it is, because Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum believes that it might be all over for the Filipino if he gets beaten by the 27-year-old Rios on November 23rd in their fight at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Arum said via Philstar “This is a very important fight for him [Pacquiao] to win. It will certainly hurt him if he loses this fight. It may signify the end. it will be very devastating for him.”

Golovkin willing to drop to 154 for Mayweather

golovkin7Abel Sanchez, the trainer for WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s), says that Golovkin is the best fight for the 36-year-old Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he wants to keep getting the kinds of money that he made in his last bout against WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last September. Sanchez says that Golovkin is willing to drop down in weight from 160 to face Mayweather Jr. at 154 if he’s agreeable to taking the fight.

Sanchez said to Hustleboss.com “I think that Golovkin is really the only name out there that is gonna give him the kind of payday that he had in his last bout with Canelo. There’s nobody on the horizon who’s gonna give him a 40 or 50 million dollar payday and if Golovkin is the guy, then we’re willing to go down to 154.”

Donaire battles Darchinyan this Saturday on HBO

donaire422Nonito Donaire (31-2, 20 KO’s) and Vic Darchinyan (39-5-1, 28 KO’s) will be mixing it up this Saturday night on HBO from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. It’s been exactly six years since Donaire and Darchinyan last fought in 2007, and it didn’t turn out too well for Darchinyan with him getting stopped in the 5th round.

Chances are that Darchinyan won’t do any better on Saturday night than he did back in 2007. A lot of boxing fans wanted to see a Donaire-Darchinyan rematch over the years, but it seems like a lot of the interest in that fight died down a long time ago after Darchinyan started losing regularly. He’s now been beaten in two out of his last four fights, and he’s even struggling to beat lesser fighter.

Left-Hook Lounge: How Good is “GGG”?, Is Rios “Afraid” of Pacquiao?, & is Mike Perez a Heavyweight Threat?

perez784H. Barlow (Dallas, TX): Count me to the list of supporters behind GGG! I think the guy is amazing and I don’t see anyone at 160 or 168 who can stop him. Who do you think would give him the “most” trouble between 154 and 168?

Vivek W. (ESB): Before I get into GGG’s performance, I’d like to start by saying great effort by Curtis Stevens. I thought Stevens performed very well, although he hindered himself by only pressing in spurts. Easy to say from my living room couch, but the reality is that when he did move more and let his hands go, I thought he made the fight very interesting. He couldn’t sustain that effort, and most of that has to be credited to GGG. When you analyze GGG closer, you have to give him great absolute credit. One of the things that gave Curtis Stevens a problem all night was Golovkin’s ability to cut off the ring.
