Pacquiao-Bradley II fight signed and done for April 12th in Las Vegas!

Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) and Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) have signed for their rematch on April 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. After weeks of negotiations, Bradley and Pacquiao have signed their contracts for what their promoter Bob Arum hopes will be a successful pay-per-view card on HBO. It’s a risky rematch, because the first fight didn’t do well on PPV, but Arum doesn’t have much else to offer other than Bradley or a fight against Ruslan Provodnikov.

Pacquiao will receive $20 million for the fight, which is around the same amount he received for their previous fight in June of 2012. As for Bradley, he’ll be getting a slight bump up in pay to $6 million for the fight plus the upside from PPV. Bradley will likely make as much as $10 million if the fight does well on PPV on HBO.

Discovery Channel’s The Fighters Episode Review

Boxing and reality television have always made an interesting marriage. 2013 brings us a new installment on the interesting network choice of the Discovery Channel. The show follows the Boston area amateur boxing scene with a focus on trainer Peter Welch and his dream to revive the Boston boxing scene which he feels is dying. According to Welch, as the boxing dies so does the youth and young men whose avenues are left to drugs and reckless behavior. For anyone who has seen the Mark Wahlberg film The Fighter or ESPN’s Unguarded about Chris Herren this is not new territory. So Peter Welch wants to revive boxing in Boston, his dream is being put into real action by an arrangement of gym versus gym fight cards hoping to draw crowds and spark up interest. The first episode fell a little flat but the show appears to have momentum going into episode two.

Malik Scott-Deontay Wilder in the works for March

Fans have been wanting to see exciting KO artist Deontay Wilder take a step up in competition for some time now, and it looks as though these fans will get what they want this coming March. According to a news piece in The Tuscaloosa News, the 30-0(30) heavyweight contender will face the world ranked and highly skilled Malik Scott on March 15th.

“I can tell you it’s a fight we hope gets made,” Jay Deas, Wilder’s trainer told the publication. “It’s a great fight for both guys and hopefully a great fight for the fans. I’m hopeful it will [happen].”

Wanting to know more, I contacted Malik Scott, who improved to 36-1-1(13) last night with a rust-removing 2nd-round TKO over Grover Young. The win over Young was Scott’s first fight back since his controversial (counted out in the act of rising and appearing to be up before the count of “ten” in the 6th-round) fight with Dereck Chisora at Wembley. And Scott did confirm to me that he is all set to fight his friend Wilder next.

Unbeaten welterweight Antonio Orozco stops Miguel Angel Huerta in two sizzling rounds

Last night in Indio, California in a fight that went out on Fox Sports, unbeaten welterweight talent Antonio Orozco scored a thrilling if short TKO win after being hurt badly in the opening round of a violent slugfest with fellow Mexican Miguel Angel Huerta.

Orozco, managed by Golden Boy and looked at by many as a future world champion, was cracked hard by a full-blooded left hook to the jaw in the opening session. The 26-year-old held the shot well, in doing so proving he has a chin, and then had to take another left hand. Orozco overcame the toughest moment of his now 19-bout pro career.

In the 2nd, 35-year-old veteran Huerta went for it but, in breathtaking fashion, Orozco completely turned the fight around with a blistering left hook of his own.

Mayweather-Khan will need Broner-Maidana to do well with fans, says Jeff M.

Jeff Mayweather thinks Amir Khan isn’t a bad choice for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to fight on May 3rd in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jeff likes the idea of Mayweather fighting Khan because the British fighter brings in a lot of fans of his, and it’s not a fight where Mayweather will be the only popular guy attracting pay-per-view buys on Showtime.

But with that said, Jeff thinks it could be a little tough on Mayweather to bring in a ton of PPV buys against a fighter like Khan with the fight taking place in the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo. Jeff feels that having Khan as Mayweather’s opponent instead of a Mexican fighter will make it more difficult to bring in numbers on PPV.

Pacquiao’s charity fight offer to Floyd Jr. just another way to beg, says Jeff Mayweather

Manny Pacquiao’s offer of fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. with the purses from the fight going to charity was originally met with a lot of positive praise from boxing fans around the world. They saw Pacquiao’s offer as a sign that he’s truly a good person that doesn’t care at all about money, and is only interested in helping out the sport of boxing by facing Mayweather for the fans. However, Floyd’s uncle Jeff Mayweather sees through the intentions of Pacquiao and feels that his offer for a charity fight is just another sign of Pacquiao begging for the fight with Floyd Jr.

“How can anything go to charity when you [Pacquiao] owe the tax man $68 million?” Jeff said to Mmaartmartial. “All that was is a new of begging for the fight. That’s all that was. Nobodies fighting for free…Now he’s [Pacquiao] in a situation where he needs Floyd. Floyd doesn’t need you. What does Floyd need your for? Nobody fights for free. That’s just another way of begging.”

By Paul “Paparazzi” Jones & Justin Jones: Washington, DC — Official weigh-ins for the “Lamont Peterson vs. Dierry Jean” IBF Junior Welterweight World Championship clash were held this afternoon at the Marriott Renaissance hotel (Washington, DC).

Lamont Peterson (31-2-1, 16 KOs), who celebrates his 30th birthday today, weighed in at 139.5 lbs which was under the contracted 140-pound limit. Dierry Jean (25-0, 17 KOs) also made weight tipping the scales at 139 lbs.

Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (22-0, 11 KOs) and “King” Gabriel Rosado (21-7, 13 KOs, 1 NC) made the Jr. Middleweight 154-pound limit without incidence. Charlo weighed in at 153 lbs, while Rosado weighed 154 lbs.

Rush to fight Pacquiao, Floyd!

Boxing cannot afford to miss the mark at this critical moment. The call is to side with truth and stand in the gap. It’s time for every sports lover to take steps unhesitatingly for the good of all and the Sweet Science.

Reason is deaf to “reasoning” that insults intelligence. Halt dim “defenses” being proffered in media these days to conceal the light by hacks or by knocks. Debunk pretenses, for who can defend the defenseless? No moron, not even Gandhi or Hitler.

But why rush to officially announce the “Pacquiao-Bradley” rematch as reported? Are wily Bob and devious Koncz afraid that they would not earn the usual bucks from their cash cow in the proposed “Charity Fight”? They say the offer is serious but their actions tell it’s not. Why panic?

IBF Orders Froch/Groves Rematch!

Carl Froch has been ordered to give domestic rival George Groves a rematch within 90 days or be stripped of his world title by the International Boxing Federation.

Froch claimed on Friday that Groves rejected “a seven-figure sum” for a second chance after their controversial fight in November, which the champion won with a contentious ninth-round stoppage to keep his WBA and IBF belts.

Groves admits he has turned down an offer but is adamant he is as eager as ever to get back into the ring with Froch, and his cause has been helped after the IBF decided the bout was controversial enough to merit an immediate rematch.

Groves confused by Froch’s press statement

George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) turned down a 7-figure offer for a rematch from IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) after being unsatisfied with the specific requirements written into the contract. Groves is waiting for another offer that is more to his liking.

However, Froch responded to the rejection of the offer by Groves to make a statement saying that Groves has refused the 7-figure offer made to him, and he would be looking to fight former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. instead.
