It was a pretty quiet weekend for boxing, but there were a few shows taking place last night. Evander Holyfield’s new Real Deal Promotions had their debut card, taking place at The Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky. In the headliner, Carlos Negron scored a minor upset as he halted tough trier Derric Rossy in the 4th round of a scheduled ten.

Tomasz Adamek returns with wide decision win over Solomon Haumono in Poland
Returning to the ring for the first time in well over a year, since suffering a stoppage loss to Eric Molina, Polish great Tomasz Adamek pounded out a wide, near shutout decision over New Zealand’s Solomon Haumono. The 40 year old former light-heavyweight and cruiserweight champ won by commanding scores of 100-90 and 99-91 twice.
Adamek is now 51-5(30). Haumono falls to 24-4-2(21).

Imagine the sensation, the reverberating shock around the world, that would be caused if, on August 26 in their crossover “Super-Fight,” MMA star Conor McGregor “did something crazy;” say perhaps, by deciding to launch, and land, a kick on his opponent Floyd Mayweather Junior!
It would be a cheap shot, but one that would cost McGregor anything but a cheap amount of cash by way of a fine (and of course, Floyd has himself covered for just such an eventuality; a monstrous fine to be issued if McGregor does forget which martial art he is practising in Vegas in August). And the 38 year old all-time great told those fans who were there at the airport to greet him how he is looking forward to a “toe-to-toe battle” with unbeaten puncher Horn.

Spain’s Alfredo Evagelista is, along with Earnie Shavers, Larry Holmes and Leon Spinks, one of the last surviving former fighters to have gone toe-to-toe with an ageing, yet still hugely influential Muhammad Ali.
As with Shavers and Spinks, Evangelista is best known for his fight with Ali. It was back in May of 1977, some forty years ago, when a 22 year old Evangelista entered the ring against the 35 year old Ali. A huge underdog, the challenger who was born in Uruguay surprised quite a few people by pushing Ali all the way to the final bell, losing a 15-round unanimous decision in Landover, Maryland.
