Where should a Horn-Pacquiao rematch be held?

As we approached the July 2 welterweight title defence WBO ruler Manny Pacquiao was set to make against unbeaten but largely unknown (outside of Australia) Jeff Horn, most of us were in truth not all that excited about the fight.

Pac Man was widely expected to have too much of just about everything apart from youth over his unbeaten, underdog of a challenger, and Manny’s “world tour” was expected to have a nice, explosive start; with Pac Man likely scoring his first KO victory since way back in 2009. Instead, we witnessed The Upset of The Year (so far) and we were also treated to a far more eventful and exciting fight than anyone could have predicted.

Canelo starts training camp for GGG match

Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) returned to San Diego for the eighth consecutive time and for his sixth headlining Pay-Per-View event to open training camp ahead of his Sept. 16 clash against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) for middleweight supremacy at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The mega-event will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.

Jermain Taylor: How the mighty have fallen

There was a time when Jermain Taylor was a great fighter, a big star, and a role model to millions; there was even a time when the Arkansas native met and spent time with the president! But those days, days that saw Taylor become the only man to twice defeat the legendary Bernard Hopkins, are a long, long time ago now.

Yesterday distressing news broke of how Taylor, retired from the ring since 2014, was arrested for, get this – allegedly biting a woman in the face. Taylor, who, it seems has taken his “Bad Intentions” fighting nickname to new heights outside of the ropes, fell foul of the law back in 2015 when he was involved in a shooting incident for which he is still serving parole.

Charles Martin KO’s Marrone in one; “Prince” Charles now 2-0(2) in post-Joshua comeback

Last night in Alexandria, Louisiana, former IBF heavyweight champ “Prince” Charles Martin improved to 25-1-1(23) with a quick, one-round KO over journeyman Michael Marrone, 21-8(15).

Fighting for the second time since his dire showing against unbeaten star Anthony Joshua, where the southpaw was taken out inside two disappointing rounds, Martin is now 2-0(2) in his post-Joshua comeback. A hard left hand to the body dropped Marrone, the swift end coming in the very first round.

Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller: THE best talker in boxing today bar none!

Who’s the best, the most amusing, the most original, the most fun talker in boxing today – Tyson Fury? Adrien Broner? Keith Thurman? Floyd Mayweather? The answer is, none of the above.

This title, this distinction simply has to go out to unbeaten heavyweight puncher Jarrell Miller, AKA, “Big Baby.” We don’t know yet how great Miller can fight, not at the highest level anyway, but if Miller keeps running his mouth, chances are one of the big names he has called out, and is calling out, will take the bait and get in the ring with him.

“Hammerin Hank is back at 135 and he’s stronger than ever” says an animated Hank Lundy. When the man from Philadelphia is pressed for his future ambitions, there is only one goal, a lightweight world title.

It was in an encounter with the high school bully, when an uppercut left the other guy asleep, that Hank first realized that he could fight. Soon enough, his uncle had him down the boxing gym. And so Lundy embarked on what proved to be a successful amateur career. Highlights included a silver medal at the 2005 national golden gloves and representing the United States at the Pan-Am championships.

Former IBF welterweight king Shawn Porter has released a short but very colourful and amusing video on his twitter page. Wearing a leather jacket without a shirt, dark shades and a cowboy hat, Porter goes into his very best Mr T impression as he calls out former WBC welterweight champ Danny Garcia.

“I’ve only just heard that the WBC would like Showtime Shawn Porter to fight another title eliminator, and they want me to fight none other than the cherry picker himself – Danny Garcia,” Porter says as he stares down the camera. “What I say to you, Danny Garcia – let’s get it on. Oh yeah!”

Asamoah Gyan tips Tagoe to beat Mendez August 26

Ghana’s Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’ Tagoe (27-1, 13 KOs) will make mincemeat of former IBF super featherweight champion, Argenis Mendez (24-5-1, 12 KOs) of the Dominican Republic when the duo clash in Accra for Tagoe’s IBO Lightweight world title on August 26, according to Asamoah Gyan, manager and promoter of the Ghanaian boxer.

Gyan, more famous as captain of Ghana’s national soccer team, was at the Seconds Out gym in the Ghanaian capital on Monday afternoon to watch his prodigy train in preparation for the fight against Mendez.
