There will be not one but two great fighters providing expert commentary on the upcoming February 4 IBO super-middleweight title fight between Chris Eubank Junior and Renold Quinlan. Heavyweight great Lennox Lewis will be calling the fight for British viewers on ITV (in the channel’s return to boxing, on pay-per-view), along with reigning light-heavyweight champ and pound-for-pounder Andre Ward.
Recently crowned WBA super-flyweight champion Kal Yafai of Birmingham in the UK is a future star in the opinion of many good judges. The unbeaten 27-year-old is slick, super-fast and he is exciting to watch. And already, Yafai is looking at facing the very best.
Yafai, who will make his maiden title defence on May 13, against a TBA, is already talking up a possible fight between he and the brilliant Nicaraguan Roman Gonzalez, the consensus pick for today’s pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet.
Billy Joe Saunders, the reigning and undefeated WBO middleweight champion, has been teasing fans over who he could fight next. Speaking first with BoxNation and then iFL TV, the southpaw said that although he cannot say too much, his next fight – one that is practically signed and sealed – will be a “mega-fight, against the best of the best.”

Two action-packed fights featuring world champions, emerging stars and fierce rivalries have been added to the televised pay-per-view undercard of Miguel Cotto vs. James Kirkland “The Return” on Saturday, February 25 at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco. As fight fans may recall, heavyweight legend George Foreman retired, for ten full years, in 1977. At the young age of just 28, walking away from millions of dollars in future fights, Foreman disappeared from the boxing ring until 1987, when he came back at age 37 to fight in another era.
Tyson Fury is 28 right now and he has tweeted how he “might do a George Foreman” and fight again in ten years. Who knows with Fury; is he being serious or not? People expect Fury, unbeaten, to make a return to the ring, maybe this year – but his tweet says otherwise:
It looks as though reigning WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder will have to find a new opponent for his scheduled February 25 return fight in Alabama. Wilder was of course set to defend against Andrej Wawrzyk, but Wawrzyk has failed a doping test.
ESPN.com reports that Wawrzyk failed a urine test, coming up positive for the anabolic steroid stanazolol. The pre-fight test was conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) and Wawrzyk could now be out of the fight.
WBA Lightweight World Champion Jorge Linares and former titlist Anthony Crolla held a press conference on Tuesday in Manchester, England, to formally announce their upcoming rematch on Saturday, March 25 live on SHOWTIME from Manchester Arena.
Linares (41-3, 27 KOs) narrowly outpointed defending champion Crolla (31-5-3, 13 KOs) last September in a thrilling battle in Crolla’s hometown of Manchester.
