Broner could come back for sure, he’s got some talent, and if he finds a division where he can exhibit his power then he is a danger.

He has two massive holes in his game though.

Workrate and defence.

He’s an accurate puncher, but he isn`t a great counterpuncher, which means his low output doesn`t get mirrored by a low output from his opponents unless he hurts them, and when he meets someone with power he is going to get tagged and buzzed up.

Someone like James Toney can sit in the pocket picking shots, Broner can`t at the moment.

I`ve said it before, but shaking your head at people to say shots aren`t hurting you just reiterates that someone is hitting you.
When you are hittable, then punchers are a danger to you.

And Maidana isn`t even the best puncher from Argentina around that weight class.

Bronner problem is his trainers can’t teach him anything else. It’s time for him to move on and forward with a different trainer. He fights all his fight the same flat footed no jab nor ability to adjust. His corner should have instructed him to jab double jab triple the jab box and move. He needs to forget about being a rap star and concentrate on the art of boxing. If he had an Emanuel StewRt or Angelo Dundee or a Nazhim Richardson in his corner he could boxed and won easily. Yes Paulie beat him also he made no adjustments. Congratulations to Maidiana and his corner for setting the tone from round 1. They smothered AB knowing he can only fight one style. But I hope mIdina don’t get too crazy and think he can do that to Mr Mayweathet that’s not happening…lol

Well said.

Posted December 16, 2013 4:59 pm

There are ALOT Of guys showing their “GIRLY SIDE” OK you don’t like Broner we get it… But his loss was FAR less shameful and WAYYY more courageous than Wlad Klits 3 losses… the HUGE Klits could NOT recover nor fight back when hurt and was dispatched by 3 underdogs that he was BIGGER than… Pac Man as great as he is was STOPPED 3x, the last time by a guy who cannot punch as hard as Maidana at WW and has ONLY lost to the other guys he faced at the weight putting none of them down or in jeopardy…. So writing off Broner in this manner is simply GLOATING (understandable to some extent) but it DETRACTS from the proportion of your arguments… Cotto, Pac, Wlad, Martinez, Donaire, Ali, Lewis, Hearns and Leonard are all guys that came back to win World Titles after booking a loss… Broner is 24, this might be the BEST thing that happens to him in the long run… He showed ALOT of heart and fought back well in the 11th and 12th after almost being out in the 9th that shows CHARACTER, I don’t care if he ass pounded Maidana after every round… IN the end the better man won that night but Broners future is still up for grabs, the kid can fight and if he can rebound from this bad night ALOT of guys will be eating crow… If not then Oh Well!!

Posted December 16, 2013 4:22 pm

Broner cannot change. He will be the same ole Broner. He will be only a memory, very soon. Feed him to Bradley.

Murderman my friend, you know full well Floyd Mayweather will NEVER fight the legendary Manny Pacquiao. He knows what will happen, but if by some miracle, they do sign and step into the ring, I will be happy to take your money and donate it to the the people that really need it. Hopefully Floyd will find the courage, character and inner strength to stop running. Manny Pacquiao will beat Floyd Mayweather easier than people think. It’s all about styles, and Manny’s style will defeat Floyd Mayweather and any other welterweight should they find the courage to take on arguably the greatest fighter of all time. Manny is a unique fighter that cannot be beaten by anyone in one fight. He does things and is faster, stronger and very unorthodx for fighters to figure out in one fight, Mayweather will be lost early and will be hurt inside of 5 rounds. Once again, this is all based on Floyd Mayweather finding the courage to fight the only 8 division boxing champion in history. 8 titles, yes more than Floyd and every fighter in history. I’ll give Floyd 1o years to sign the fight and step in to battle with the living legend, Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao. Trust me on this Manny Pacquiao will win.

Hec Dog, I see you’ve made sure to post your accusation about Maidana cheating on every Broner/Maidana thread since the fight. You need to be careful about your irresponsible accusations. If it is proved that Maidana was cheating you have a leg to stand on. Until then, you got nothing except your dark thoughts.

I agree totally with ME! Broner got taken down a peg or two, glad to see. Like to see him come back with more class, he is a good Boxer.

Peej my friend, Broner’s incredible loss may be attributed to Maidana’s use of some illegal drug. The video says it all. No excuses about smelling salts and other garbage. The man looks like he cheated. The decision should be reversed as I expect it to be. Garcia and his group are cheaters.

Manny Pacquiao on the other hand is an entirely different subject. Manny will destroy Broner, Mayweather, Thurman, Bradley and Maidana. Manny is a man on a mission, and he can’t wait to get someone in the ring. Every guy I just mentioned in the welterweight division has NO chance whatsoever to beat Manny’s incredible, NATURAL speed, power, boxing skills, agility and movement and stamina. Manny has a tyle that no one can beat especially if they are fighting him for the first time. Just look at Floyd, he wants no part of Manny as well as Haymon and Schaeffer. These guys know better than to put Floyd or any of their fighters in with Manny Pacquiao. There’s no more room for excuses. The boxing world has heard enough. They have know crowned Floyd Mayweather as a fighter that refuses to fight Manny Pacquiao for ONLY one reason. He’s scared. No more excuses. Fight fan aren’t dumb. They have given this guy more than enough chance to make the fight regardless of his feelings towards Arum or anyone else. Floyd’s own boxing peers have now looked at him as a chicken. A man afraid to fight another man out of fear. Manny Pacquiao will continue to be loved, respected, adored, admired and cheered on by the world. That is what you call a champion inside and outside of the boxing ring. Manny Pacquiao will go down as arguably the greatest fighter of all time. He deserves it more than any other. The only 8 division boxing champion in history says it all. Need I say more. Manny’s the best. Floyd mayweather couldn’t win 8 titles could he? Manny is incredible. Maidana gets stopped before 6 rounds, Broner gets stopped before 10, Thurman gets stopped before 5, Floyd takes a beating and gets stopped in round 1 or 2. Bradley gets stopped before 11. Trust me, Manny beats them all.

Te Tumbo my friend, those were not swabs. Could this be a big coincidence that Robert Garcia also trained brandon Rios, and guess what, Rios just was found out to have failed the drug testing against the Mighty Manny Pacquiao, now another one of Garcia’s fighters, Maidana is seen snorting stuff given to him by Ariza right in front of Robert Garcia. If he walks like a rat, talks like a rat and acts like a rat, It’s a RAT!! I can feel it already, the test results will come back positive and the NC is given. I surely hope they have guards surrounding the blood drawn and private detectives are watching Maidana, Ariza and Garcia. Wow, I now can see why Broner lost the way he did. Memories of Panama Lewis. Keep your eye on this story, a cheater may be caught.

All hype. maidane has 3 losses guess he is all hype, Froch lost to Ward and Kessler guess he is all hype. let’s see how Bronerrexovers and if he learns that is what will make the difference and let us know if he has the goods to be a great champion.

Ariza involve with maidana. No wonder maidana is to strong and have a very good stamina. Ariza knows how to give a boxer an added extra boost. I wonder if what his doing or giving them fighters are legal.

Fight Aficionado

“Broner is there to be hit and his handlers matched him with the overmatched or non-punchers. The first real puncher he fights and he get’s beat, no suprise there.” – Broner already should’ve lost to Ponce de leon who has a similar style. His camp deluded themselves into thinking Broner’s better now than he was then. Wrong. He can’t handle pressure and power. That’s why he never wanted to fight Lucas Matthysse and leapfrogged 140 to get away from him. Poetic justice his fellow Argentine gave Broner then smack down.

Posted December 15, 2013 7:17 pm

Slater writes “But it is a big leap going from facing guys like Gavin Rees …..” but didn’t he also write an article titled “Gavin Rees Will Challenge Adrien Broner in Feb: Can “The Rock” stop “The Problem?”??

Posted December 15, 2013 7:06 pm

What will happen when Wilder fights someone who can actually fight back?

Posted December 15, 2013 6:58 pm

Broner will never be competitive at 147 or 140. 135 would better suite his skill level and big mouth. He can probably fight C+ fighters at 140-147 but as soon as he hits B Level to A level fighters that can crack he folds.

Posted December 15, 2013 6:51 pm

Broner should NOT bow down to pressure to move up in weight, boxing is NOT a game if he is comfortable at 135, then he should dominate at the weight till he feels it is time to move on.

Posted January 14, 2013 10:18 am

Broner is NOT that big as a LW and if he can make the weight SO WHAT?? I know you guys are NOT fans of facts and become VERY offended when presented with them but Adrian Broner is NOT some sort of massive LW by historical standards.

Posted February 19, 2013 10:45 am

Broner is fighting guys his own size he makes 135 easy! Rees and Broner both weighed 150 fight night that’s boxing..

Posted February 19, 2013 1:26 am

Look at how SREDMOND chops and changes his opinions to suit his racist agenda. He said GGG is a big middleweight, but the 150lb Broner wasn’t a big lightweight? In SREDMOND’s world of retardation and racially driven hypocrisy someone who rehydrates 16lbs after the weigh isn’t big for their weight division but one who only rehydrates between 7lb and 10 lbs is.

GGG makes 160 with ease and the most he has ever rehydrated to after the weigh in is 170lbs, which was a one off. Not once has he ever struggled on the scales. He’s always made the weight at the first time of asking like the ‘not big 150lb lightweight Broner did.

SREDMOND has been accusing GGG of being a bully for saying he might move down to 154 in the hope that it might garner him a fight against Mayweather, but when you remind him that one of his racist idol’s B-Hop used to not only regularly call out welterweights and light-middleweights when he was at middleweight but actually also expected them to come up to his division and publicly accuse them of cowardice on live TV and lobby the likes of Larry Merchant to join him in doing so to shame them into fighting him, SREDMOND will produce a list of a hundred excuses why he’s perfectly fine with one of his racist bruthas doing something that was much worse than what he’s accusing GGG of doing. Remember this is a person who repeatedly claims not to be ” big on making excuses”.

Notice how hard he’s been trying to push GGG up in weight but he was perfectly fine with the 150lb Broner to stay at 134 and beat on smaller foes? He can’t conceal his fear of GGG. He desperately wants him as far away from Mayweather as possible, hoping and praying that his bruthaman Andre Ward can take his cherry.

SRedmond: Floyd scared himself silly when he underestimated Cotto’s foot-speed… And after that scare, you see what his ass did… Went right back to picking GOOD brawler opponents with lead feet in Guerrero and Alvarez… Floyd refuses to fight anyone with equal hand and foot-speed, who can keep up with and pound his ass into meat… One in particular!!

Posted December 15, 2013 6:35 pm

Sredmond.., Pacquiao has a winning record against Marquez, 2-1-1… Marquez came with a good game plan for fight IV… You don’t tell your opponent your strategy–but Roach and Pacquiao told everybody they were looking to be aggressive and KO Marquez.. JMM exploited that knowledge and sat in the weeds—waiting for the perfect opening.

Floyd gets hit too… He’s not immune to defeat… Don’t pretend he’s untouchable.

Lara, Pac, or Danny could possibly beat Floyd.. Floyd doesn’t seem to be overanxious to fight them.. Let’s see if Floyd mans up and finally fights a real opponent—or goes to England to faces the walking disaster known as Amir Khan … a canvasback with glove prints all over his face.

Posted December 15, 2013 6:34 pm

Again if these other fighters are BETTER they should be able to walk thru FMJ the way Maidana did against Broner… Lol Hold your breath!

Posted December 15, 2013 6:20 pm

Old Kook, if Maidanas such a threat to Mayweather how would your rate Floyd’s chances Lol? How about the discussed fight against Khan who already beat Maidana? Cotto and Canelo are MUCH better than Maidana and fight 7 pounds north yet the GREAT FMJ remains 45-0 never took a GREAT fighter to stop Manny, Wlad, or Martinez!! Gotta love that FMJ consistency!!

The Great American Joke

Broner is done.He has nowhere to go.His weak entitlement mentality will likely result in him doing a Jeff Lacy.He just doesn’t have what Floyd has.I don’t mean the skills,I mean Broner doesn’t have the immense mental makeup of Floyd,he never will.I hope I’m wrong, and Broner rededicates himself to boxing and ditches the bling, the stupid branding he’s created and tosses those tossers that surround him.The kid has talent,he’s just been distracted by all the wrong things. The things to learn from Floyd are not shoulder rolls or branding, but true dedication.

Posted December 15, 2013 6:13 pm

Old Coot

This kid will be back… Hype jobs don’t take pounding like that and keep getting up to come back and actually make it a fight in the middle rounds, only to lose by decision. No… This kid is special with real talent and an iron chin.. He just needs to hone his defensive and counter punching skill, then learn to throw more shots. Otherwise he will be stuck cherry-picking easy sure things like his hero.

Posted December 15, 2013 6:12 pm

Old Coot

SRedmond: Nope… A certain overrated cherry-picker is more of a master illusionist than an undefeated boxer… At least Broner is willing to fight a real threat so soon after the jump… And you never hear Broner bringing up drug tests or purse splits, nor trying to dictate glove and ring size or trying to hand-pick referees like that certain so-called P4P great. Not to mention Broner and is willing to take to give like a fighter, and try to KO them, instead of sucker-punching or just running to protect his grill and win unanimous decisions by pot-shot, usually in snore fests that rob certain gullible fans out of tens of millions in PPV… No… At least Broner’s not a marketing hype-job who’s in trouble with the law like every other year… Brone’s a real fighter who took a chance against a buzzsaw and got cut up… THIS TIME!! We can only wish others (one in particular) would ever take a real chance like this.

Posted December 15, 2013 6:04 pm

I still think Broner is there to be hit and his handlers matched him with the overmatched or non-punchers. The first real puncher he fights and he get’s beat, no suprise there. Can’t remember the short guy from Wales he fought, but he hit Broner plenty with big shots, of course he was no real puncher either. Broner can come back though, it will be interesting to see what non-puncher they match him with next. I don’t however see him being the next Floyd.

Posted December 15, 2013 6:02 pm

Tark, acts like he has the antidote or training to negate anything or lead anyone to victory MEANWHILE he’s an ESB poster with NO cache in the boxing World…Reality is that Maidana took it to Broner, he did nothing “amazing” he swung wide as hell that same fight plan could get him drilled against plenty of guys but Broner was a sucker who could not adjust and realize he was not gonna slow Maidana with that type of low activity combat…Tark fails to mention how Pacquiaos “experience” got him clobbered by an Old Flat Footed Marquez and his know deficits that he failed to improve on against an elite counterpuncher… Tark is NOW SACKING Lara who is a very talented fighter that just got a nice win off of Trout who was coming off a loss (Tark will claim Trout won against Canelo) but then we have to ask why Tark was so big on Canelo against Floyd of he REALLY thought Trout won (Tark will say Canelo was drained) meanwhile Alvarez NEVER made that weak excuse and accepted the loss like a MAN unlike Tark who hates being wrong so much he would eater tweeze his scrotum with Garden Shears..HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I can`t think of any champ he can beat at 140 or 147

Posted December 15, 2013 5:43 pm

Bronner just got run over by a stronger bigger fighter. The difference between him And Floyd is the knowledge of cherry picking. Floyd is the best! You don’t pick Pacman over a Guerrero just like Paulei And Maidana.

Posted December 15, 2013 5:40 pm

If broner goes down to 140 stays away from ruslan?garcia, matthysSe,rios all going up to 147 he can win a title at 140

Posted December 15, 2013 5:28 pm

super duper right

I have never been fully sold on broner. Thats not to say that he isn’t very talented but the bar he has set himself is almost impossible to live up to. He is tryin to be the next floyd which is damn near imoossible. He is the better boxer than maidana but the rush to get him this fight was his undoing. There are weight classes for a reason and for him to just jump 2 and think he can dominate is a step too far and there is not one fighter out there I could think of currently fighting who could do that. He simply did not have the punch power to trouble maidana which was the telling factor in the fight. He needs to drop to 140 as many of u have stated and try to rebuild. As a side note its always good to see a big mouth punished and humbled.

Posted December 15, 2013 5:23 pm

Broner-Maidana is a story of styles.

Broner was an undefeated 3-Division World Champion. Maidana lost to Khan, Alexander, and Kotelnik. So on the surface it seemed an easy pick. Much like Tyson-Douglas—when there’s a big ring record disparity—I sometimes shelve analysis of styles. I often just go with the consistent winner—and this often proves to be a mistake.

The cross-armed defense and shoulder roll that Broner employs works beautifully against jabbers and movers—but often fails against punchers and attackers.

The cross-armed defense has failed many top fighters against certain styles.

Archie Moore was beaten 3 times by Ezzard Charles—hitting the canvas often. Moore was knocked down 4 times by Charley Burley and floored 5 times by the crude swinger Yvon Durelle—usually with chopping rights and left hooks. Ken Norton was KO’d 4 times by big punchers. Joe Frazier met George Foreman twice…and didn’t fare well either time.

It’s possible to trick, time, and overwhelm the cross-armed defense with power, speed, crafty angles of attack and deceptive delivery—like a pitcher throwing a great screw ball or sinker.

Maidana did a little of each last night. A slick southpaw stance can also help to penetrate this defense—because better angles of attack and trickier mixes of punches can be exploited… I believe Lara, with his tons of amateur experience, and Pacquiao, with his vast pro experience are Floyd toughest potential opponents. Danny Garcia, with his great timing and explosive left hook, is also a legitimate threat to Floyd’s defense.

Posted December 15, 2013 5:20 pm

This creates a compelling storyline! Can Broner rebound? we had to see Pac Man damn near dead after getting hit by a 40 year old Marquez… This is boxing and ANYTHING can happen…Broner certainly set the stage for the abuse that is getting heaped upon him… He was BRASH and calling himself the NEXT Floyd Mayweather which is a WILD Claim…. But hey the kid was selling and marketing himself so who can blame you when there is a couple mill in your face… But now he has to understand that he has a MOUNTAIN to climb in order to regain respect… “Maidana rematch” ? 140 pounds? Its anyones guess at this point…

Posted December 15, 2013 5:04 pm

Broner has been GOOD for boxing the guy generated serious buzz and was on a FAR better fight card than even Pacquiaos last one… He took on a SERIOUS World Class Puncher after moving up 3 divisions and LOST in an exciting fight… HOW is this ANYTHING but a positive for the sport? Its certainly better than seeing Golovkin getting in the ring with Stevens and whatever the name of this NO NAME fighter is coming up in Monaco…At the end of the day guys with a personalities create buzz and attract fans… These dull fighters with bland personas are often unable to create the type of events boxing needs.. If we had to rely on the Maidanas of the World to promote events we would go to sleep… Chino handled his business and hopefully he can parlay this into some BIG paydays… GREAT fight Card GREAT night of boxing!

TUMBO Q-VO!! NO, I didn’t predict a Maidana win but I did emphatically say that Maidana was no Malignaggi nor Ponce Deleon, and that Broner had yet to prove that he could handle that Maidana-like pressure at 140LBs, let alone 147. Maidana deserves his props but Robert Garcia deserves much of the credit himself. Great fight plan. He perfectly mixed Chino’s improved jab, high output, a slightly improved hands high defense with his old ‘puro cojones’ steady pressure. Props to the Maidana/Garcia team! Paz carnal!

Posted December 15, 2013 4:34 pm

Turbo Hamster, what “poor conditioning” are you talking about? one of the positives I saw from Broner was that he was in tip top shape or he could not have withstood that pounding NOR be coming forward and attacking in the 11th and 12th rounds… Golovkin is relevant because his resume is WORSE than Broners yet guys wanna act like he is a LOCK for the hall of fame…These upstart fighters Broner, Thurman, Golovkin, Gary Russell Jr all look good on the way up but who they really are can only be decided against WORLD CLASS competitors as Paulie pointed out on more than one occasion… Sure Golovkin looks awesome against C level fighters, So did Broner and he did it moving UP the scale not looking to find a way down 7 pounds for 24 hours…

Posted December 15, 2013 4:33 pm

Bronner got destroyed and embarrased. i believe this was the best thing for his career as he will either come back much much better or his career will be over due to his ego being smashed. Thurman still has not fought a top WW yet. he looked good against a fighter he was suppose to be good against. The guy was extremly unathletic, slow and inaccurate. Not saying Thurman isnt good, but he hasnt proven himself against a top WW yet. SDont be fooled by the power.

Posted December 15, 2013 4:32 pm

Total domination by Maidana he school poor Bronner. I mean all the talk about easy work and about millions, rapping, shows, basketball, girls (ugly fiance), cars, money, houses (guetto house) in all access. Bronner is mentally damage after the beating for a long time

Posted December 15, 2013 4:28 pm

The Dirrell style acting job after the “headbutt” though, and his humping that got repaid in kind.

Well, the Broner brand got broken. He built that brand that way. He has to pay for it now.

Who would pay to watch his next fight – I wouldn`t.

Posted December 15, 2013 4:22 pm

I agree Broner can rebound if he tightens up his defence and learns to work a bit harder, though he is his own worst enemy in regards to achieving that.

I don`t know why you fizzle round and start firing shots at GGG. He has never displayed the poor conditioning or defence that Broner has. The only negative for GGG is that Quillin, MArtinez, Geale, STurm and Murray refuse to share a ring with him unless they get handed a retirement sized payday.

Posted December 15, 2013 4:20 pm

He who “humps” last HUMPS THE BEST!! At the end it was Maidana who humped Broner big time. Practically “raped” him. Broner was practically running to the dressing room. Another “Rapper” bites the dust. Depending on which way you look at it, this might actually make Broner a better person. Hope so. We’ll see.

Posted December 15, 2013 4:11 pm

AGAIN if Pacquiao who has been knocked out 3x and lost to Morales in his career can rebound, if Klitschko who was stopped 3x by totally unremarkable fighters 2 of whom are not even Maidana level HW’s, If Martinez who was stopped by a Maidana type in the then HARD AZZ Antonio Margarito can rebound then perhaps Broner can… Broner took some serious risk moving up from 135-147 so quickly meanwhile we have guys like GGG enjoying the same type of OVER the top hype hanging at 160 facing BUM after BUM… To his credit Broner did NOT let Maidana knock him out NOR did he stop trying to win even in the latter rounds where Maidana admitting Adrian hurt him (round 11)… I understand guys like Fight Aficianado are emotional and very forgetful of past fighters that have rebounded from MUCH worse defeats but the Broner story is still being told…. Again this UNDERSCORES how its “Fools Gold” to pretend that being Undefeated over 17 years and 20 World Title fights (Floyd Mayweather Jr) is a pedestrian accomplishment…World Class opposition is always dangerous and they come to win …. There are IDIOTS who will say that Maidana is better than Cotto who Floyd just defeated at 154 or Canelo which is nuts…. Chino is a HARD man but we know what he brings to the ring as opposed to boxers like Cotto and Canelo who have more dimensions to their game, just not enough to handle FMJ….

Maidana did well, he’s a solid fighter. He may have earned a spot in the Mayweather sweepstakes with this win, good for him…

Maidana is a hunble fellow, blue collar kind of champion;never talks trash and take care of business when he steps into the ring…excellent!!

Broner can bounce back if Hymen resumes the cherry picking of carefully matched opponents, drops back down to 135, and avoids pressure fighters. I figure 2 of 3 will happen but doubt with his lifestyle he can make 135. Fact is Broner was never a top flight talent, as I told y’all many times he was not a legit multiple weight champion but a carefully navigated front runner. And as I told y’all he would crash and burn against his first legit threat. Problem for him is that meltdown was not supposed to happen against a Maidana who is good but a step below the top.

Posted December 15, 2013 3:49 pm

Te Tumbo, I agree (taking nothing away from Maidana) I questioned Broners ability to be a player at 147 when going back and forth with Hidalgo and perhaps he is not a guy destined to rock out at that weight… Despite the silly opinions of those who dismiss moving up as difficult its been proven by 100 years of boxing that it brings additional risk… I understand Broner getting BIG grief, he talked the Mayweather talk but FAILED to walk the Mayweather WALK which is consistently making it look easy and certainly not getting batted from pillar to post by a Marcos Maidana type… That said if Klitschko, Martinez, and Pacquiao can rebound from BAD career stoppages during their career, Young Broner can learn from this and find his place in boxing… He showed some TREMENDOUS heart by actually GOING for the KO when his trainer gave him the real deal, straight no chaser… He was in VERY GOOD condition or he would not have survived NOR been able to fight the last 2 rounds with that much gusto… Broner’s biggest challenge to my mind will be mental, he is gonna hear SOOOOOOOO much abuse and negativity if he begins to doubt himself or internalize it then this CLEAR loss might prove to be more than just a hiccup…

I love the way that turd feel to his ass. I mean bobo was freaking holding, pushing, trying to elbow and all of that dirty tactic crap AND with the referee on his side AND still got his as handed to him. Yeah, sure bobo can bounce back to the hype flea bag he was but not as a boxer.

Let’s keep it real. This is Adrien’s 4th loss. He lost to Quintero, De Leon, and Marcos. I’ll give him the Malignaggi fight (barely). So let’s say his 3rd loss then. And he knows it too.

how long did it take to come up with “Altered physics?” less time than it took for you to read it and a Lot less time than it will take for you to enunciate and understand it, which will be a sustained work in “progress”, i’m certain.

Posted December 15, 2013 2:41 pm

‘Altered physics?” Geez, how long did it take to come up with that? Bottom line is that it was no “huge” move up in weight for Broner and he’s as strong as they come physically. Fact is he got beat, plain and simple. The crab-shell hide and seek tactic failed.

Posted December 15, 2013 2:35 pm

PPd, you describe a hype job and your whole point is that Broner is not a hype job… Confusing :)

Te Tumbo: Yeah… I’ll give that Broner probably should have waited a couple more years for his body to mature more, as well as his skill at improving his punch output or defense, or BOTH… Because when you are as economical with punchers as broner, you better be great a defense and above all learn to duck fleet footed buzz-saws like Maidana or Pacquiao… Another certain fighter has shown that.

Posted December 15, 2013 2:16 pm

Broner’s arrival at 147lbs was obviously premature. the lack of any size advantage severely compromised his established fighting ability. he had trouble grasping the altered physics of the entire situation. primarily that he no longer hit as hard and his opponent hit a LOT harder. Maidana’s arms must’ve also seemed longer and his chin and jaw a bit more distant. the fight simply got away from him and he ended up chasing and “walking” right smack into it all-fight-long. conversely, Maidana demonstrated confident command of the combat range early when he drew an accurate bead on Broner’s jaw and never relinquished it. even when Broner was enjoying some success Maidana consistently and accurately Bombed right back. arguably the most impressive win of Maidana’s career and he’s already had plenty.

plenty of novices underestimated Maidana and also overestimated Broner. right or wrong, documented ring performances v. the best comp is the most honest and accurate way to anticipate the outcome of subsequent matchups. Maidana has plenty of high-profile scalps and locks displayed across his ring-resume. Broner, not so many. based on that equation, the outcome always favored Maidana. his proven resilience and ring-maturity alone gave him a sharp and formidable edge over the pumped-up-with-his-own-gas Broner. not to mention the addition of a jab and improved punching form. both of which directly enhanced his established fighting-profile. before this bout Maidana was known for always landing his share of hard punches. he did one better v. Broner and simply beat him to the punch all-fight-long with leads and counters resulting in almost double the punch-output and convincing edge in every other punch category. Broner was exposed as limited and inexperienced. however, he can bounce back IF he actually learns from his first loss. otherwise, his plummet from being the next Mayweather to the next Hamed will be even more dramatic than the current Nazeem-standard . . . and welterweight looms as a very treacherous minefield for Broner.

Wow, Maidonna is an absolute animal. I’d have to say he is probably one of the most dangerous fighters to ever step into the squared circle. What makes him so dangerous is that he carries his power through all 12 rounds and becomes even more dangerous when hurt. His will cannot be broken. Argentina has always produced rugged, touch fighters from Firpo, Monzon, Beneveno and Maidonna. Broner had no answer for the left hook. Broner does not know how to adapt to an opponent like Mayweather does. The two quality opponents Broner has faced, Malignaggi and Maidonna, he struggled with. Instead of being so concerned with being flashy and trying to imitate Mayweather, perhaps Broner should focus more on his opponents. Broner is an immature jerk

Posted December 15, 2013 1:51 pm

Weight I dont think is the issue for Broner, he can fight at 147. He just fought a stupid fight, his defense sucked. He didnt use his speed to stay on the outside and avoid Marcos power and body shots. I think he gave him the fight he never really got into a rythmn. Hats off to Marco but Broner should have been better at letting his hands go early on mybe it was his trainer but he was relying way to much on making Marcos miss but he never made him pay for it with counters. You have to outbox Marcos he is a beast and to get his respect you have to make it pay or he will rool right over you, Broner had a few rounds where he looked good but Maidana would press him and he would go back to survival mode. Some fighters grit they teeth when they get hurt and show true heart, because boxing is 90 percent mental and some when they he hurt shut down and just try to survive Broner, went into that survival mode, whenever he got pressed.

Anonymous wow you can spell racist should be your name. Weigh in should be on fight knight to cut all the ballooning out. ODH was the first queen of ballooning started when he talked Mosley into jumping 2 divisions to fight him and continued from there. Ballooning should not be allowed in boxing its no difference than using Peds to gain an advantage.

@ Tachyon: I said the day after they announced that Canelo was too lead footed for that other fighter… To fight a defense oriented counter-puncher, you gotta have fast feet to catch up with the speedster, cut him off and drive him to the ropes, along with the chin to walk through counters, and the workrate and power to gain his respect and out punch them… Maidana proved why one fighter in particular won’t fight another one with all Maidana’s attributes and more.

Posted December 15, 2013 1:28 pm

Let’s not all get carried away because Maidana won as he’s got an uphill fight coming next. Honestly, I don’t see him holding the title for long.

Octavius Jomar Chatman your right the left was there all night. Broner has good speed and power but his punch output is way too a low allowing him to take incoming fire. Plus he did not adjust at all to the hooks at some point he should figured I need to put my hands up to block. Broner’s poor executive of the shoulder roll. rolled all the hooks to his head and chin.

Hype job? No… At least Broner is willing to fight a real threat and is willing to take to give, instead of just running in snore fests for tens of millions… At least he’s not a marketing hype job who’s in trouble every other day… He a real fighter who took a chance against a buzzsaw and got cut up… THIS TIME!! We can only wish others (one in particular) would ever take a real chance like this.

I agree hoping this loss helps to tighten Broner focus on boxing. Test is not the loss but the rematch did he learn anything and can he adjust. Man I was rolling on the floor when Maidana returned the hump. Broner did go over and hug Maidana after the fight and congratulate Maidana’s team rumor was left the ring because his jaw was possible broken and he could not speak well.

I am so happy to see a punk like Broner loose. he has no defense and leaves himself wide open for the left hook. hype job exposed for sure.

Posted December 15, 2013 12:56 pm

Broner caught Maidana with a right on the ropes made his knees wiggle, Maidana came back hit Broner with a left made his knees wiggle as well. They were going back and forth Broner had little more energy left that’s why most thought he won the 12th round. Broner never knocked Maidana down but he did get a couple shots in that hurt Maidana which were countered well by return fire from Maidana.

You got to give Broner credit. He did try to go for the knockout in the 12th and won the round. Sadly, it was too little too late. I don’t see Broner going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, I see Broner getting upset, hitting the gym, and bringing his game to another level. He’s not the type to give up and just walk away and let all his haters have the last laugh.

Posted December 15, 2013 12:47 pm

Tachyon, what fight were you watching,Broner doesn’t have any power at WW and certainly didn’t even come close to hurting Maidana,it was more fatigue than anything else!Maidana was definitely tired from all the punches thrown and landed! I never saw Maidana wobble or hurt throughout the fight.

Posted December 15, 2013 12:42 pm

Octavius Jomar Chatman not true Broner hurt Maidana in the 11th and in the 12th so his punches still had power. Broner got knocked down but kept getting up and fighting one loss does not end a career ask Pac he has been knocked out twice. Lets see how the rematch goes before passing judgment. Although Broner really needed the ass whupping and I was jumping up and down yelling Maidana kick his ass LOL. Lets see if the loss improves Broners career and tightens his focus.

Haymon saw Broner as his replacement for Mayweather once that cash cow retires. This was originally supposed to be a PPV, after all, until the writing on the wall showed Broner can’t do squat numbers yet. Broner is 23, so his career is far from over, but he’ll never be the P4P king. Ever.

I told you all post paulie fight this guy was losing to any of the top 6-7 welters. Maidana included. People laughed at me. Except for peej and squared circle. Hecdog tried to tell me this guy was beating everyone from Floyd to golovkin lol. Only the “great” pacman was beating him. I told you his awful footwork and lack of understanding of the shoulder roll was all you needed to know. They were the biggest “problems” broner had last night. He has never improved from the ponce de leon fight and after seeing the exact same issues against paulie I knew he was toast. Maybe now he will put some work in and actually attempt to improve. One thing is for sure. he’s not going to be talking for awhile. Scored it 116-109 maidana. Congrats to Marcos and on the bigger things. As for Thurman he keeps getting better with every fight although i’d personally like to see him improve that guard some and stop dropping his hands so much. All in all he handled karass without too much trouble enjoy watching him fight and hope to see him again soon.

Broner totally fell apart right before my eyes. He was simply awful in everything he did. He was either exposed or froze in his anointing fight to crown him one of the best. I saw the following:

He was lost once he was dropped, was looking for help from the referee, kept his head up in the air, leaned back from Maidana’s left hook and the overhand right, which were landing all night, stayed against the ropes even after taking a beating to the head and body, his corner was confused, Broner kept looking into the audience in between rounds and talking to who knows who, threw very few punches, he looked like a deer in headlights, he tried faking the impact of the headbutt to get a DQ win, he simply looked as if he were a lost child that was looking for someone to save him. I though he was a 100 times better, but his true character has been exposed. He may never recover after this. Then the people throwing beers at him. Broner brought this upon himself. A humble man with humility is always respected. An egotistical, big mouth is always humbled.

Broner is just one of those guys that people love to dislike. I always thought he was more hype than talent and was being matched carefully by his team. He’s always been fairly easy to hit, but wheen matched with eh powder puff punchers it didn’t matter much. Maidana is rather a crude fighter, but he can punch and it appears he exposed Broner to some extent. Now we’ll see what Broner is made of as he has become dented goods.

Broner’s career is not over, but expect a similar path to that of a lesser Zab Judah. I believe it is imperative for Broner to reassess his training habits, lifestyle and what weight division he should be competing at. As much as Broner fouled and acted like a little weasel in the ring against Marcos Maidana, he did display tremendous heart in the final rounds and an impressive chin. Therefore, there is some positives to take away from last night.

Jake, I agree, but Cole was the one that should of penalized Broner on that and many other instances. He was the authority in the ring. Had he done his job on preventing Broner holding in the first place then Maidana wouldn’t of butted Broner. To be honest wasn’t even a butt, more like a head ‘nudge’.

GGG is to big. Trying to say he isn’t doesn’t mean squat. He has never made 154. Floyd is a small welter. He could make Jr Welter. Fact that the day of the fight against Canelo he weighed in at 146 says a lot

But 172 lb Canelo isn’t BWAHAHA!!

‘Broner isn’t welterweight’

”Broner is a very small welterweight’

‘GGG walks around at 180 lbs’ — completely untrue

‘GGG is a big middleweight’ — again completely untrue. GGG has a small frame and a hell of a lot of light-middleweights weigh roughly the same as him give or take a lb or two on fight night

But Broner who weighed 157 lbs — 10 lbs over the division limit, which is exactly the same amount of weight GGG’s highest ever recorded gain after the weigh-in is — it’s usually only 7 or 8 lbs — isn’t? BWAHAHA!!!

‘Broner is the future of the sport’

Broner is going to take over boxing when Floyd retires’

‘I don’t believe in hyping fighters until they’ve done something to deserve it’

‘Broner would destroy Matthysse’

‘Broner just keeps on winning. You’d better get used to it bwahaha!’

He’s been hyping Broner like mad since he first burst onto the scene.

Can you believe what such a sook Broner is. Disrespectful from the start and when he got beat he acted like a little boy and not wanting to talk to anyone, rushed back to the dressing room. Reminds me a little of when the great Kostya Tszyu KTFO of Zab Judah and he acted like the spoiled little brat he is. Broner should have taken the loss like a man and gave an interview and praised his opponent for a good fight. He is never going to be anything more than a bigmouth show pony..

Broner may have been a prodigy when he was a kid, but I have not seen where that translated into the professional ranks. Maidana does not have much speed, yet Broner did not display greater speed than Maidana. Broner is not a great defensive/slick fighter… he got hit with Maidana and Paulie. Broner’s size is not good enough for welter. Porter, while about the same height, is more suited for welter because he has power and very good punch output. Broner’s stamina, punch output and ability to adapt inside the ring is questionable.

On the plus side, Broner is 24; he showed a good chin against Maidana in not getting stopped and at times hurt Maidana. If he goes back to 140 or 135, he will likely fine better success… but he would need to work on his stamina and punch output.

It was a humiliating loss because of how he carried himself; it’s bitter/sweet to watch, because he was arrogant and deserved it, but yet so young to have such a major disappointment.

Posted December 15, 2013 11:22 am

Mayweather will “designate” Maidana as the “best available opponent” after he fights Khan.

I recommend “El Chino” say NO and bask in his glory for a while. Screw Mayweather. There are plenty of other butts to kick.

Posted December 15, 2013 11:20 am

As usual a good piece by James Slater. The comparisons with Hamed are apt, two genuinely hateful hype jobs getting taken apart by a true Mexican warrior.
Broner will probably come back and win fights where his matchmaker does a professional job, but this prat can’t handle tough, big punching pressure fighters and never will.

Posted December 15, 2013 11:12 am

Sorry but the notion that Broner lost because he was too small is ridiculous. You only need to look at the two fighters to see Broner was not at all outsized and he even looked like the physically stronger guy. Don’t make unnecessary excuses for his loss. Broner fought a nice fight he just wasn’t busy enough and couldn’t figure out Maidana’s punches. The only reason Broner is getting so much crap is because of his trash talking but in reality he needn’t feel ashamed of this loss. He fought a tough dude. A rematch can still be attractive and competitive.

Posted December 15, 2013 11:11 am

Why when a boxer has a victory all of a sudden they are “rushed” to fight the top fighters. Maidina should take his time to have a successful career. He’s certainly in no position to have to be forced into any dangerous opponent especially for his next fight.

Posted December 15, 2013 11:04 am

Broner has been blessed with all the talent and tools to be great…he never will because he is a clown with no work ethic and drive to earn anything. The kid has skills which is often a curse because things come to easy if you don’t have dedication and work ethic. He is talented like Floyd but a bum like TYSON.

Posted December 15, 2013 11:03 am

We also know that although Broner isn’t ready for WW at this moment, that he doesn’t quit like Victim Ortiz, and he is tough as nails with a great chin, he gets up and he fights on.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. plays the bad guy roll to sell tickets and PPV’S. But everybody knows it’s just an act and when the fight is over, Floyd gives his opponent and the fans respect, even the ones that came to see him lose and cheer for the other guy. Broner was rude and outright disrespectful to fellow boxers and boxing fans alike. So unlike Floyd, whom is disliked by some because he can’t seem to lose, Broner was disliked for being an genuine a-hole. That’s why many people who didn’t like Broner are happy he lost, and those who did like his Mayweather imitation don’t feel sorry for him. This was more than a loss for Broner in the boxing ring, it was a harsh lesson in life. Hopefully, he learns from this, finds his own identity, and bounces back from his soul crushing loss.

Now we know that its too early for Broner to be a welterweight, and a right time for Maidana to be a champion. Broner will be back, he got the skills and a heart — he got up from two knockdowns– and there is no shame in losing to Maidana, everybody knows he can crack. its just that everybody perceived Broner to be the next Mayweather, thy forgot how strong Maidana is, and how small Broner is.

I think he was exposed by malignaggi who I feel out worked him , he should have blown paulie out in 6 rds , this is justice and good for boxing , he is a obnoxious bafoon , trying to imitate Floyd humiliating his opponent in and out of the ring , now him and daddy can brush each others hair at the carwash

Broner also needs to work on his fundamentals. He doesn’t have a jab and he doesn’t actually have good defense at all, he just leans backwards…. and his footwork is bad.

It’s not a hype job exposed at all, he was too small and too weak to really feel comfortable against one of the couple strongest WW’s on the planet. We have to remember that although Broner is short and stout, he was just recently a Jr. Lightweight. This was only his second bout at 147 and he felt the big difference in power right away just from MM’s punches at the arms, and you could see that he was tentative. He still had the guy going as well by the end of the fight. So I imagine that acclimated to that weight he could beat Maidana… if he can acclimate, he doesn’t carry is power to 147. He should go to 140 until he gets a bit bigger with age, then he can fight the welters

Goodmorning. Just two words.HYPE JOB. Feasting on no hopers, tweeting obscene comments, posting filthy images on YouTube sitting on a toilet on the stupidity goes on, does not prepare a boxer for the moment when they confront a dedicated and determined PROFFESIONAL. Particularly one that can punch! Yes he has been exposed and the road ahead will be even harder now.

Yes, another hype job exposed! Chuck and Juve BS… Reminds me of Fraud Maypretenter….Hype atop more HYPE! This is why boxing sucks anymore
