April 12 And May 3: Days Of Infamy For Boxing

What liberated people would ignore an injustice, gladly bear its yoke and willingly suffer its injuries by doing nothing? If scoundrels think they are free to do what they’re doing in defiance of reason and what is right, can’t we be at liberty to do what’s right and reasonable in defiance of the baseness of what they’ve been doing?

Arum says Pacquiao vs. Bradley II almost as significant as De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao was

Arum says Pacquiao vs. Bradley II almost as significant as De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao was

“Whether he [Manny Pacquiao] ever fights Floyd Mayweather or doesn’t fight Mayweather, this is the most important fight of Manny’s career, next to the Oscar De La Hoya fight,” said Arum in a recent interview.

Thus far Manny Pacquaio’s career has been very exhilarating, for his boxing fans as well as for himself. He has broken ground too many times to mention, while accumulating a colossal amount of boxing fans. Most of his boxing career was Manny beating the odds, moving forward at a scary pace. Since it is common knowledge that all good things come to an end, Pacquiao suffered a very debatable (according to an entire army of boxing fans) loss to Timothy Bradley, and a stunning knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez.

Kovalev vs. Agnew tonight on HBO

Kovalev vs. Agnew tonight on HBO

(Photo Credit: Rich Graessle/Main Events) For fans wanting to see tonight’s light heavyweight clash on HBO between WBO 175lb champion Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 20 KO’s) and challenger Cedric Agnew (26-0, 13 KO’s), I would suggest that they not walk away from their television sets during the fight for a refreshment break, because this one has quick knockout written all over it. Agnew is going to be on the canvas in this fight for the 10 count, and there’s probably nothing he can do to prevent this from taking place.

I’m not going to say that Agnew has no chance to win the fight, because every fighter has a chance. But Agnew’s chances of winning this fight are so incredibly small that it’s not even worth mentioning. Agnew doesn’t have the speed, power, skills or experience for him to last more than a couple of rounds at best.

Mike Marsden: “Martin Ward Will Put Up A Very Good Fight”

YouTube video
The sport of boxing has been coursing through the veins of Leeds fight face Michael Marsden for more than 40 years now.

A former amateur and pro boxer, the one-time Central Area lightweight boss has subsequently served the game with honour as a trainer-second, manager and matchmaker.

Quiet, understated but hugely respected by his fellow licence holders, Mike was unanimously saluted when Darlington’s Stuey Hall – a lad he’d coached and managed since Hall’s formative pro years – annexed the IBF bantamweight title following an epic battle with South Africa’s Vusi Malinga in Marsden’s home city last December.

Kovalev vs. Agnew & Dulorme vs. Mayfield: The Return of the Crusher and bigger fights await the winner of the co-feature matchup

Kovalev vs. Agnew & Dulorme vs. Mayfield: The Return of the Crusher and bigger fights await the winner of the co-feature matchup

Photo by Rich Graessle/Main Events – This Saturday night’s HBO Doubleheader marks the return of knockout artist Sergey Kovalev, who crushed his way to the top of the light heavyweight division in 2013. His opponent is Cedric Agnew, a fighter who is both undefeated and untested.

The co-feature pits a fighter who recently reached contender status, Karim Mayfield against Thomas Dulorme, a former prospect to be reckoned with now trying to find his way back to the big leagues after his T.K.O. loss to Carlos Abregu.

Cedric Agnew and his sterling record of 26-0 with 13 KO’s, certainly looks the part to a person who just happens to be at home, channel surfing right around the time the ring announcer is giving introductions.

Hearn wants to make Cleverly-Bellew rematch after Nathan’s May 17th fight

YouTube video
Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says he wants to put together a big rematch between his recently signed former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Nathan Cleverly (26-1, 12 KO’s) and former WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (21-2-1, 13 KO’s) as soon as Cleverly gets past his scheduled May 17th fight date at the Motorpoint Arena, in Cardiff, Wales.

Hearn doesn’t have an opponent picked out for Cleverly yet, but suffice it to say that it won’t be anyone good enough to worry the 27-year-old fighter any. This is Cleverly’s cruiserweight debut, so Hearn will make sure that he matches him softly so there’s no chance of a mishap. Hearn almost blew it with his matching of Bellew against 37-year-old Valery Brudov this month in a fight that Bellew took a beating and was staggered at one point in the fight in the 7th round.

Arum sees Bradley as risky fight for Pacquiao

Arum sees Bradley as risky fight for Pacquiao

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has some concerns about whether his aging money fighter 35-year-old Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) can get by his next opponent WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) on April 12th next month. Pacquiao didn’t look so great the last time he fought Bradley two years ago, and there’s no way of knowing if Pacquiao will be any better in the remain.

A loss for Pacquiao would likely be a huge blow for Arum, because it could become much more difficult to sell Pacquiao’s fights on pay-per-view. Pacquiao’s last fight against Brandon Rios drew only 475,000 last November, and you’ve got to figure that a defeat at the hands of Bradley won’t help matters for the Filipino star. That would be his third defeat in his last four fights.
