We are just about a week away from one of the more talked about Bernard Hopkins bouts in a long time. While Hopkins (55-6-2) has already achieved more than most boxers could expect for themselves, at the age of 49 he is certainly pushing those limits of father time and human physiology. Nevertheless, the adrenaline of stepping through the ropes as well as the comfort of the cheering crowd is something that Hopkins is not willing to abandon just yet.
Sergey Kovalev Interview
Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev opened up his camp to the media today in preparation for his Nov. 8 light heavyweight unification bout with Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ and live on HBO World Championship Boxing®.
Question: How do you study Hopkins?
Sergey Kovalev: “I don’t study anybody. It is better to go to the gym to do some work for my shape or spend time to cook my breakfast or sleep in my bed. Why I need to spend the time?”
Bernard Hopkins Attemps To Unify Once Again
Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs) isn’t the first elder statesman of the sweet science to hold the light heavyweight crown.
With a win on Saturday, November 8 against WBO Champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City live on HBO World Championship Boxing®, Hopkins would be just one belt away from becoming the first fighter in boxing history to hold all four major alphabet titles simultaneously in two different weight divisions.
Lemieux vs. Rosado Press Conference Quotes
DAVID LEMIEUX, NABF Middleweight Champion – “Thank you to everybody for being here, it is a great honor and great opportunity for me to be able to fight in Brooklyn at Barclays Center.
“I’m very excited. I didn’t sleep much last night just getting excited to talk in front of you all.
“I can’t wait for the fight. Gabriel Rosado is a great fighter. He comes to fight and he’s a very tough opponent. However, I’ve never felt so strong in a camp and trained so well. If you saw my fight against Fernando Guerrero, it is going to be a new David again.
Fury: Chisora Brings A Spud Gun Into Battle Against My Bombs!
Tyson Fury is following Hollywood star Brad Pitt into action and is ready for war against heavyweight rival Dereck Chisora.
Pitt tops the box-office in the UK with his hit movie Fury about an army sergeant in World War Two who commands a tank with a five-man crew in Nazi Germany.
And the undefeated Wilmslow giant posed with a tank as he prepares for his own mission behind enemy lines on Saturday 29th November at the ExCeL London in a massive European, Vacant British and Eliminator for the WBO World title clash against Londoner Chisora.
Eddie Chambers would welcome the chance to test Anthony Joshua in 2015
Former world heavyweight title challenger ‘Fast’ Eddie Chambers likes what he has seen of fast-rising prospect Anthony Joshua, but fears his run of soft opposition may only serve to hurt him in the future.
The 32-year-old Chambers, once of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, now an honorary member of Team Fury in Bolton, speaks from experience. Back in March 2010 he scaled the heights and challenged Wladimir Klitschko for the world heavyweight championship. He therefore knows a good heavyweight when he sees one.
“At the moment they’re doing a good job of making Joshua look unbeatable,” said Chambers. “The only problem with that is you get to a point where that’s all you’re used to. Then you get in there with somebody who can prove you’re very beatable. Then panic sets in. Then you realise you have no foundations or experience to fall back on.
Left-Hook Lounge Mailbag: Andre Ward, Golovkin, Walters/Donaire, Khan/Alexander
Marc T. (Athens, GA): I’m tired of hearing all of the talk about Golovkin and how he’s “the most feared man in Boxing”. Andre Ward’s team sent HBO a direct statement saying that he wants the fight, & Golovkin responded in saying he’s basically “not ready” for Ward. What are your thoughts about GGG and this whole “most feared” reputation being built around him?
Vivek W. (ESB): For starters, I think there’s a slight hint of truth to it. Strong promotion and network support can be credited for this growing cult following, slash, bootleg version of an almost Tyson-like mystique. When we look back at Tyson, many of us were young enough to buy into the ‘Boogeyman’ persona that he embodied; but as adults when you look back, it’s very easy to note that most of the men he destroyed had no chance against you and I on two weeks training, let alone him! Our entire perception of Tyson – (one of my personal favorites) – vanished when he faced someone who couldn’t be intimidated and wouldn’t be denied. There lies both my question and answer relative to GGG.
Roach: It won’t be difficult for Pacquiao to take Algieri’s jab away
Trainer Freddie Roach isn’t worried about Chris Algieri’s right hand for his fight against WBO 147 pound champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) on November 22nd. Roach’s main concern is to take away the jab from Algieri to keep him from using it to control the shorter Pacquiao, because Algieri has made it clear that he’s going to be jabbing Pacquiao all night long to keep him from getting his powerful shots off.
Roach thinks he’s got the perfect plan to take that jab away, and get Pacquiao in position for him to score a rare knockout.
Kovalev: I’ll fight dirty against Hopkins if he fights dirty
World Boxing Organization (WBO) light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs) is ready for any dirty tricks IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs) plans on using in their unification fight next month on November 8th on HBO at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Kovalev says he plans on fighting dirty if the 49-year-old Hopkins fights dirty. He says he’s going to fight a clean fight, but if Hopkins wants to take it to another level and start getting physical with him then he’ll accommodate him by playing the same way.
Eubank Jr defeats Siala, faces Saunders next
#9 WBO 160lb contender Chris Eubank Jr (18-0, 11 KOs) methodically broke down his 25-year-old opponent Omar Siala (23-18-3, 10 KOs) before stopping him in the 2nd round last night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.
Eubank Jr landed a tremendous right uppercut that sent Siala reeling towards the ropes. Eubank Jr then followed up with four additional uppercuts before referee Alvin Finch stepped in to stop the fight before Eubank Jr could seriously hurt Siala.
