Fonfara beats Cleverly; Kono decisions Kameda

(Photo: David Earnisse/PBS) Hometown-favorite Andrzej Fonfara (28-3 16 KOs) out-slugged former world champion Nathan Cleverly (29-3, 15 KOs) over 12 grueling rounds on his way to a unanimous decision on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike from the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. Fonfara and Cleverly exchanged punches throughout the night with neither man yielding an inch of ground. Cleverly won rounds by throwing punches from awkward angles and by countering effectively. Fonfara never seemed phased by Cleverly’s power however, and was able to impose his will as the fight wore on.

Brook Pulls Out of Chaves Fight With 'Convenient' Injury

IBF welterweight champion, Kell Brook, has pulled out of his Oct 24. title defence against Argentina’s Diego Chaves, allegedly due to a rib injury.

The Sheffield fighter has reportedly picked up the injury in sparring, an ailment which the more cynically minded among us might call ‘conveniently timed’ given he was due to fight for what we’ll call a PPV purse on a non-PPV show next week.

Cleverly: Thriving Off Fonfara Challenge

Cleverly: Thriving Off Fonfara Challenge

Former WBO light heavyweight champion, Nathan Cleverly, has admitted he experienced a ‘reality check’ in the wake of his loss to big-hitting Russian, Sergey Kovalev back in 2013, as well as conceding that his [knee-jerk] move up to 200 lbs wasn’t the right one.

Golovkin vs. Lemieux: Can David prevent Triple G's Takeover?

This Saturday night broadcasted live on HBO PPV from New York City, David Lemieux has a second chance to make a lasting impression. Gennady Golovkin is on a mission after Floyd Mayweather’s retirement announcement and David is the only thing standing in his way from a takeover. Ok that and a fight with the winner of Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto. Is this a stylistic dream of a brawl sent from the boxing gods? Or an overhyped mismatch on Pay-Per-View? It’s probably somewhere in between.
