Fight fans can look ahead to a big weekend of fight action on August 26. As per a news story on RingTV.com, FOX will carry a two-fight card right before the big crossover “Super Fight” that will pit boxer Floyd Mayweather against MMA warrior Conor McGregor.
The full under-card for the Las Vegas show is yet to be determined/announced, and thus far only one of the FOX bouts has been confirmed: former IBF welterweight boss Shawn Porter will face Thomas Dulorme, an industry source told Ring.
The only thing close to a blemish on the 36-0 record of Mikey Garcia came in his 2013 technical decision win over ultra-tough Mexican warrior Orlando Salido. Then fighting down at featherweight and challenging Salido for the WBO belt, Garcia knocked Salido down four times, before “Siri” came back, and then came on.
A clash of heads saw Garcia, then 30-0, suffer a badly busted nose, and the fight was stopped with the TD victory going the Californian’s way. Salido, his supporters claim, might have finished strong enough to have won the January 2013 battle; maybe even by stoppage.
According to a news piece on RingTV.com, Palm Springs warrior Timothy Bradley is set to announce his retirement from boxing imminently. The former two-weight world champ will turn 34 next month and he has apparently decided that he has fought enough.
If it is indeed the end (there seem to be a few fighters pondering retirement right now; what with Bradley and Tyson Fury apparently done, and Kell Brook also stating recently how he will only know if he still has the desire to fight once he begins training again), Bradley, one of the most respected and genuinely admired fighters of recent years, goes out with a fine 33-2-1(13) record; during which he was never stopped.
Undefeated World Middleweight Champion GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN wants to make one thing clear. On Saturday, September 16, when he faces Canelo Alvaraez, Golovkin is walking into the ring at the T-Mobile Arena the same way he walked out of the ring at Madison Square Garden, in his last fight — wearing all his world championship belts.
Earlier today in Shanghai, China, unheralded Sho Kimura from Tokyo, Japan stunned China’s boxing superstar Zou Shiming via upset 11th round TKO. Kimura, who had never before fought anyone of real note (a number of his wins coming over fighters who had losing records) ripped the WBO flyweight crown from defending champ Shiming.
This Saturday night live on Showtime, Adrien Broner meets Mikey Garcia in the main event from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Even without a title on the line the stakes remain high based off the accomplishments of both men. Showtime will also be live-streaming the undercard via Facebook & Youtube, 3 fights in total including unbeaten heavyweight Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller versus one-loss Gerald Washington.
Let’s start at the top of the bill with a very intriguing matchup between Mikey Garcia 36-0, (30KO’s) and Adrien Broner, who hasn’t lost a fight under the welterweight limit. In fact the weight of 140 pounds is a good item to focus on for two main reasons.
On Monday of this week WBC heavyweight king Deontay Wilder reassured us all that his next fight is coming: “Never fear ….the return is near,” he wrote. While the following day, the unbeaten power puncher tweeted: “Only a matter of time, the return is near, I’ll be back, wait for it.”
But who, when and where will Wilder fight next? Last seen overcoming the perhaps better than expected challenge of an unbeaten Gerald Washington back in February – this fight being Wilder’s first since he’d endured the longest layoff of his pro career; since his July 2016 win over Chris Arreola – Wilder has seen his name put alongside a couple of potential next foes.

Earlier today, former WBA featherweight king Carl Frampton surprisingly failed to make weight for tomorrow night’s fight with Mexico’s Andres Gutierrez. The featherweight contest, originally a WBC final eliminator for both men, is now only a eliminator for Gutierrez. Frampton came in one-pound above the 126 pound limit.
Despite this, Frampton and his manager Barry McGuigan are hugely confident going into the Irish warrior’s first fight back since dropping a decision to Leo Santa Cruz in their rematch back in January. 30 year old Frampton isn’t likely to be too concerned over the fact that a win tomorrow will not now earn him a shot at reigning WBC featherweight champ Gary Russell Junior, as he is targeting a fight with IBF 126 pound ruler Lee Selby; this fight a possibility for later this year.
