Fury: Klitschko Delay Was ‘Mind Games’

WBO mandatory challenger Tyson Fury, has re-asserted his belief that long-dominant champion, Wladimir Klitschko, was simply playing “mind games” by delaying their massive heavyweight title fight, that now takes place a month later than originally scheduled, on Nov.28 in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Klitschko revealed he had picked up a calf strain just hours after an animated press-conference in London, that saw Fury arrive in a Lamborghini sports car and dressed in a Batman costume, and many have questioned the legitimacy of the injury – including Fury.

“I think it was all mind games and they were just trying to make me go off the rails, get drunk and go wild as I normally do but I didn’t. I stuck to the game plan and kept my running and sparring up,” he told Sky Sports.

There was also a belief that the Klitschko team – including manager, Bernd Boente – objected to helping carry the [maligned] Kell Brook/Diego Chaves card that was being televised as a PPV split with it in the UK on the original Oct 24. date, although this unconfirmed. However, the delay of just one month – as well as the fact Klitschko/Fury is PPV worthy all on it’s own – can’t help be noticed by the more cynically minded, especially as Brook/Chaves is no longer a Box Office event.

Either way, it’s of little consequence to Fury, who says he is relishing the chance to finally dethrone the 39 year old, whom he constantly refers to as ‘boring,’ and promises his preparations have not been unsettled by the delay, which he’s viewing as a ‘blessing in disguise.’

“I’m getting my world title fight I’ve craved for so many years. There can’t be another injury because there’d be a massive kerfuffle so I know it’s going to happen on November 28. Camp’s going well, training and sparring are going good so maybe it was a blessing in disguise?,” he said.

Klitschko/Fury is to be televised on HBO in the US, and Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.
