Golovkin Gives Canelo a Shot Early In the Fight, Still Expects A Boring Bout

03CaneloandMayweathernosetonoseIMG_3679(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) “I know Saul, and I think that he has a better chance in the first half of the fight, than in the second. If there will be a direct exchange of punches, than there is no doubt that he will win. But I am sure that Floyd will not do that, he doesn’t need to do that, thus there will be no explosive war, as some are expecting. I think that the fight will be boring. Still we are all hoping for a big show,” stated Gennady Golovkin in a recent interview with Gorodokboxing.

I believe that most would agree with Gennady, and the fact of the matter is, while there is an entire army of fans out there thinking that Alvarez will be able to bully Mayweather Jr., he simply won’t be able to get close enough to do the damage.

De La Hoya: Quillin’s the best middleweight in the division; he destroys everyone

quillin52Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions thinks his champion WBO middleweight belt holder Peter Quillin (29-0, 21 KO’s) is the best fighter in the 160 lb. division right now, and it appears that De La Hoya thinks WBA champion Gennady Golovkin is still unproven.

De La Hoya wants Golovkin to face Quillin’s recent victim former WBO middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, presumably in some kind of weeding out thing to get to Quillin.

De La Hoya said on his social media site “Hey Kid Chocolate how does it feel to be the best middleweight on the planet. My man Kid Chocolate will destroy any middleweight out there. I wanna see Golovkin vs. Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam and then I’ll see if he’s good or not.”

Chavez Jr. wants Golovkin at 168; thinks he can KO him

chavez675Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1, 32 KO’s) says he wants to face WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) at 168 lbs, and he thinks he’s can KO him if the fight gets made, according to The Record. Chavez Jr. might be open to fighting Golovkin at 160, but he prefers 168 so that he’ll be full strength.

Chavez Jr. said to The Record “It could also be at middleweight [in facing Golovkin], but it would be better in between or at 168 because I struggle with the weight and I’m stronger when I go up. I think I can knock him out.”

Martin Murray: Golovkin hasn’t fought anyone like me

murray64#1 WBA, Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11 KO’s) thinks he would give WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) a lot of problems if he were to face him next. Murray feels he’s a cut above the guys that Golovkin has been facing recently, and he thinks he’d give him a really difficult fight. Golovkin’s manager recently contacted Murray’s manager to find out the status of his visa problems in connection with a possible fight in the United States on November 2nd.

Murray still hasn’t ironed out the visa problems as of yet, so it’s unclear whether a fight between Golovkin and Murray would be a realistic option for Golovkin.

Murray said to Livefight “Look at Golovkin’s opponents…he’s not fought anyone like myself. That’s when you’ll see the best of me. Me and Golovkin would be a hell of a fight.”

Golovkin impressive in beating Macklin

World Boxing Association (“WBA”) and International Boxing Organization (“IBO”) middleweight champion, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin was suppose to face his most difficult opponent of his career in Matthew “Mack the Knife” Macklin, a two world challenger who fought well against world champions, Sergio Gabriel Martinez and Felix Strum; yet Golovkin had no problem in destroying him in the third round.

Sergio Martinez says he’d toy with Golovkin for 12 rounds

martinez14WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO’s) is currently out of action due to a broken hand and an injured left knee. The knee will reportedly require surgery this month to repair the problem. Martinez says he’s interested in facing WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s), but that the fight likely won’t happen until September 2014, according to ESPN.

Martinez won’t be fighting until April of next year, and he’ll likely take a tune-up bout at that time. If he looks good in that fight, then there could be a possible unification match-up against Golovkin for September.

Can Sergio Martinez handle Golovkin’s power?

martinez43212This question has been asked dozens upon dozens of times after Golovkin’s performance against Macklin this pasty Saturday night.

As a matter of fact, the potential of a Martinez vs. Golovkin fight has been circulating for some time now, elevating interest in that fight to as the discussions boiled. Boxing fans know what they want, and this was the fight that they believed would not only test Golovkin, but also Martinez.

Sergio is a true champion, and has proven to the boxing world to be an elite boxer. His technique and movement in the ring is impressive to observe, and despite the fact that he had a few lackluster performances, I don’t believe that he is past his prime just yet. One thing that Martinez can do real well is pick his shots and angles, making his style, if he fights on the outside, a hard one to adapt to.

Golovkin impressive in destroying Macklin

Almost 48 hours ago the inevitable happened, as widely predicted Gennady Golovkin stopped Matthew Macklin within the distance. To just state that fact alone though does not do the performance justice. Many questioned whether Golovkin’s ‘power’ and recent run of stoppages was down to mediocre opponent, handpicked to increase his marketability.
