Tyson Fury to use Steve Cunningham as sparring partner to get ready for David Haye

fury11 In somewhat of an odd move, heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) will be using 37-year-old Steve Cunningham as one of his sparring partners to help him get ready for his September 28th fight against David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) at the Manchester Arena.

Fury defeated Cunningham last April in New York in a 7th round stoppage. Cunningham wasn’t too happy about the loss, because he felt that Fury had partially held him in place with a left hand while landing the knockout punch. There was no rematch to clear up the controversy, and now Fury has moved on to the Haye fight.

Kings who have inspired many nations, even ones like Scotland, to feel good about themselves. Unfortunately Britain lost a king in Audley Harrison recently, obviously due to extremely poor refereeing, but beside Audley there has been undue flak headed Tyson Fury’s way. In my eyes as a boxing purist he has done nothing wrong.

Coming back after being floored by an American to win via devastating clobbering is pretty impressive. It was a performance that Tyson Fury can take pride in, maybe a bit rough around the edges but nevertheless impressive, a bit like a Land Rover. Tyson Fury squashed America’s heavyweight title dream and I believe he is going to do the same thing to Cyprus resident David Haye.

Haye already signed his portion of the contract earlier this week for their mega clash.

Fury said on his twitter: “Have this b**ch, Haye! I’ve signed!”

Fury, #5 WBA, #6 WBO, #11 IBF, is now going to have to find a way to beat the much faster and much stronger Haye. It doesn’t look good for Fury no matter how you look at it. Haye, #1 WBA, #4 WBO, #6 WBC, is the superior fighter in every category you can think of. Haye has the speed, power, mobility, defense and experience going for him.

Haye signed the contract for the fight yesterday, and now Fury has agreed to the exciting-looking match-up that may well captivate British audiences.

“David Haye and Tyson Fury, both world-ranked, charismatic and dangerous, have agreed to a highly anticipated domestic showdown on Saturday 28th September at the Manchester Arena,” a statement from Hayemaker Promotions read. “It marks not only the biggest heavyweight encounter of 2013, but also the biggest fight staged in Britain in many years.”

When trainer Peter Fury was asked if the September 28th fight between unbeaten Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) and former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) would be taking place in Manchester, England, Peter said “It will be Manchester.”

That narrows it down quite a bit. Now the only thing that awaits is for Tyson Fury to put pen on paper to make the fight a reality. It’s difficult to believe that Fury is actually going to take the fight because he’s been so selective in his fights since turning pro; turning down the likes of Deontay Wilder and Kubrat Pulev and instead facing guys like Martin Rogan and Vinny Maddalone.
