News: Rodriguez vs. Hlatshwayo Weigh-In Open To Public; Pro Boxing Arrives In Finland

Delvin Rodriguez, his opponent Isaac Hlatshwayo and the rest of the participants of the Star Boxing promoted card will weigh-in today at 5:00 PM at the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino. The weigh-in will take place in front of the event arena’s box office and is open to the public. Rodriguez vs. Hlatshwayo is for the vacant IBF Welterweight Championship of the World, and is a much anticipated rematch of their highly entertaining bout that took place back in November of last year which resulted in a draw. FORMER COMMISSIONERS STEVENS AND GORDON JOIN FORCES ON GOFIGHTLIVE

Both Stevens and Gordon are highly respectable individuals in the boxing world. In addition to serving at the Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission from 1988 to 1995, Gordon also spent time as the Editor-in- Chief of “The Ring” magazine from 1979 to 1984. This will not be Gordon’s first stint working on the commentary end of a fight either, as he has worked for both the USA Network (83-88) as well as ESPN in the early 1980’s.

In addition to his work as NYS Chairman, in which Stevens served from 2003 to 2009, he has also worked as a ring announcer, color commentator, matchmaker and even promoter Stevens, who also spends time working as a playwright, is credited by many for bringing boxing back to New York City during his reign as Chairman.

Professional Boxing Arrives at Ulvila – Outdoor boxing show on 8.8.2009 in Finland

The personal coach for reigning Finnish national and Baltic (BBU) heavyweight champion Juho Haapoja, Petro “El Caramelito” Koskimies with his Caramelito Promotions professional boxing stable is promoting his second pro boxing show in Ulvila Finland. The upcoming show, promoted by Caramelito Promotions will be quite exceptional because it will be an outdoor event first in Finland over 14 years. The show will be held in a local Finnish baseball stadium in Ulvila Finland.
The show will contain seven fights and those fights are in order of weight divisions:

Featherweight (57,2kg): The fight between Russian Andrey Bogdanov, 28, and Estonian Sergey Tasimov is scheduled for 6 rounds. Quick-handed Bogdanov is currently #2 in featherweight division in Russia. His current record is 8 (2 KO) – 1 – 1. The Estonian boxer is much more experienced and having fought with many top class boxers who have later fought and won either European or World titles. The best known opponent for Tasimov has been Ukrainian Wladimir Sidorenko to whom Tasimov has lost on points back in 2003.

Light Welterweight (63,5kg): Pekka Eskelinen (FIN), 31 year-old Helsinki-based boxer is looking for his first pro victory on his second fight after a surprising loss in his debut back in February. Eskelinen will square off with Rustam Shidginov (RUS), 22, who won his latest fight during this month on points against an unbeaten Ukrainian fighter. The fight is scheduled for four rounds.

Welterweight (66,7kg): In a 6 round-bout Moscow-based Alexander Filichkin (RUS), 24, will face an opponent who is still at the moment TBA. Filichkin has pro career length of seven victorious bouts. His latest two wins have come by knockouts.
Welterweight (66,7kg): The newest member in Caramelito Promotions –stable is called as Roope Puumalainen (FIN), 22.

Puumalainen has been two-times in a row runner-up for Finnish national amateur championships and in addition he has won some various national tournaments. In his fight, which is scheduled for four rounds, Puumalainen will make unofficial Finnish national record by facing the most experienced opponent which any Finnish pro boxer has boxed against in debut. Puumalainen´s opponent, Leonti “Showman” Voronchuk, 35, has this far fought against eight Finnish pro boxers. About those eight well-skilled boxers “Showman” won Juha Temonen and Jyrki Vierelä but only former EBU champion Amin Asikainen has succeeded to get victory over Estonian before the final bell. Latest time Voronchuk fought on the 26.7. losing by points for former Olympic gold medalist Mahomed Abdulaev (Sydney 2000) at Abdulaev´s back yard at Uzbekistan.

Welterweight (66,7kg): Patrick Bogere (SWE/UGA), 27, represents Caramelito Promotions´ new co-operation stable (McClory-stable) from Sweden. In his pro debut he won his fight on points. Bogere is having great merits back in his amateur career by being four-time Swedish national champion. Back in 2004 Bogere was the only boxer from Nordic countries to take part in Summer Olympics at Athens. In all Bogere has fought 120 amateur fights, from which 95 has ended victoriously for him. Bogere´s opponent will be Vyborg-based Alexander Lykov (RUS), 30, who has earlier fought five times in Finland. The fight between Bogere and Lykov is scheduled for four rounds.

Super Middleweight (76,2kg): The another boxer managed by Jason McClory, Badou Jack (SWE/GAM), 25, is hunting for his second straight win as a pro. Jack, who is having a huge list of amateur merits is a six-time Swedish champion and participant of 2008 Beijing Summers Olympic games. He was nominated as the best amateur boxer in Sweden in 2007. At Ulvila Badou Jack will go toe-to-toe with 34 years old Oleg Pavlov (RUS) who is having his fourth pro fight. Also this fight is scheduled for four rounds.

Heavyweight (+90,7kg): The main event of the show will contain a local hero and Caramelito Promotions –stable´s heavyweight debutant Janne “Finnish Butterbean” Katajisto, 31. Katajisto who is also known as former two-time Finnish national amateur Super Heavyweight champion. As an amateur he beat both Robert Helenius and Juho Haapoja who are currently TOP heavyweights in Finnish pro rankings. Also Katajisto has gathered a great experience from various international tournaments. The opponent for Katajisto will be Igor Evseev (RUS) who is also making his pro debut.

The show will contain also some beauty females in the ring as the show hostess will be Anne-Mari Berg, well-known Finnish celebrity-model and beauty queen. The ring card girls will be local beauty competitors.
