Lennox Lewis figures that all British heavyweight David Price (15-2, 13 Ko’s) needs is to have his stamina problem fixed and he’ll be okay after his second straight defeat to 41-year-old Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s) last Saturday night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.
Thompson stopped an exhausted Price in the 5th round after battering him with a rain of hard shots in the 4th and 5th round until referee had seen enough and stopped the contest.

Inevitably the criticisms will start rolling in thick and fast, I have my opinion but let’s be honest hindsight is a wonderful skill. Besides I like Price he comes across, articulated, intelligent and composed outside of the ring and this loss will be a really difficult time for promoter and fighter.
This is the fight that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) has been waiting for his entire boxing career. If he can be victorious he will be the new mega star in the boxing world and a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) would pay tremendous dividends. On the other hand, if he were to lose, this fight still does a lot for his career.
American heavyweight Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s) destroyed David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) tonight by a 5th round TKO in Liverpool, England and he may have badly crippled his career in the process. Thompson said he wasn’t surprised that Price was lured into a slugfest with him, because he didn’t think Price’s new trainer Lennox Lewis would be able to make enough changes to his fighting style in one camp to beat him.
Thompson said to Sky after the fight “Lewis is probably going to be a great trainer and teacher, but he only had one training camp with the guy. He’s not going to get that style with one training camp. Lewis didn’t get it one time when he was working with Emmanuel. I knew he wasn’t going to get it using a second hand Emmanuel like Lennox Lewis.”
Tony Thompson made it two for two as he took out former Olympic silver medal winner David Price for the second time in just over three months with a fifth round stoppage at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

After chess match of a first round, the second was nothing but action as Thompson tried to rough up Price and landed a hard left that startled Price. Later in the round, Price landed a hard right that drove Thompson to the ropes and seconds later deposited Thompson on the canvas from a hard right hand. Round three was more of the same as Price started the round by rocking Thompson with a hard right to the top of the head.
Showing an impressive body attack, middleweight Felix Sturm (38-3-2, 17 KO’s) defeated Predrag Radosevic (27-1, 9 KO’s) by a 4th round TKO tonight at the Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Sturm knocked Radosevic down twice in the 4th round with hard body shots.
After the second knockdown the fight was stopped. Sturm also knocked Radosevic in the third with a scorching left to the body that caused Radosevic to backup several steps and take a knee.
(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) has been holding back on his thoughts about his September 14th opponent WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s), but Mayweather has taken the gloves off after the trash talking that started in Los Angeles in their last city of their press tour. Mayweather says he thinks Miguel Cotto is a superior fighter than the 22-year-old Canelo.
Mayweather said to ESPN “I think Miguel Cotto was a stronger fighter, he was a tougher fighter, and I think a better fighter.”
Tonight, David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) will be making his first appearance since being knocked out in the 2nd round by Tony Thompson last February. While a lot of fans commend the 29-year-old Price for having the guts to look for an immediate rematch with Thompson, there are huge question marks about how Price will look in this fight.
You have to remember that before Price lost to Thompson earlier this year, Price had been rolling over his opponents one after another and he’d been filled with confidence. You could see it before his fights in the way he acted during the press conferences and in the weigh-ins against his overmatched opposition.
