Pacquiao should just quit if he loses to Bradley again, says Mayweather Sr.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. thinks the 35-year-old Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) should quit on the spot if he gets beaten in his April 12th rematch against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather Sr. already has serious questions about how much Pacquiao has left after watching him lose in back to back fights to Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012, but another loss to Bradley will give Mayweather Sr. a clear indication that the Filipino fighter should immediately call it a day to keep himself from fighting on too long.

Honestly, it doesn’t look like Pacquiao will retire even if Bradley does another job on him, because Pacquiao already said he wouldn’t retire if Brandon Rios beat him before their fight last November. Pacquiao didn’t have any problems beating the slow as molasses Rios, but then again he was fighting a former lightweight who had basically eat himself out of the division rather than grew out of it.

A World Youth gold medallist in 2012, the lad they call ‘Fists of Fury’ racked up a dozen wins (seven stoppages) in his first 33 weeks as a paid prizefighter.

But unlike his gregarious cousin, young Hughie has been content to serve his apprenticeship off TV, deep into undercards and often on foreign climes. Already he has graced professional rings in six separate countries.

Jürgen Brähmer vs Enzo Maccarinelli on April 5th in Rostock, Germany

In one of the better match-ups of WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer’s career, he’ll be defending his new WBA strap against non-top 15 ranked Enzo Maccarinelli (38-6, 30 KO’s) on April 5th at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Brahmer was fortunate recently to be able to capture the WBA title after the strap came available when the World Boxing Association elevated the previous WBA champion Beibut Shumenov to the status of Super World Light heavyweight champion.

That means the WBA has two world champions at 175 – Shumenov and Brahmer – and it kind of cheapens the whole idea of someone being a champion when they’re listing two of them.

Gennady Golovkin: Now What?

On Saturday in Monte Carlo, Monaco Gennady Golovkin scored his 16th knockout in a row by defeating a very game Osumanu Adama. Golovkin registered three knockdowns in fight as he improved to 29-0, with 26 wins via knockout.

A jab sent Adama to the canvas at the end of round one. The right hand that followed was just icing on the cake as Adama was on his way to the canvas. A left hook knocked Adama down in the sixth, forcing an eight count from referee Luis Pabon. Adama went down again from a Golovkin a left jab in the seventh. Golovkin followed with two left hooks, which prompted Pabon to step in and halt the fight.

After the fight, Golovkin made it known where his sights were set. ”I want to fight Sergio Martinez to prove who the best middleweight is,” Golovkin said.

By offering Fans to decide, Mayweather Jr. might rob Amir Khan of his confidence

“I’m going to let the fans vote. Tell me who I should fight next. Khan or Maidana?,” posted Floyd Mayweather Jr. on his Instagram page, with the pictures of both possible opponents side by side.

This is certainly a curve ball from Mayweather Jr., and even if it turns out to be nothing but a joke, it can still send a very destructive message to either fighter, with Amir Khan more likely to be affected by it.

Since reading about his humble offer, I started looking around trying to find any and all online polls and discussions on the subject. While I wouldn’t say that I am shocked by what I am seeing, the fact that there are so many more people interested in having Mayweather Jr. give Maidana a shot, than to see Floyd face Khan, is at the least curiosity arousing.

Osumanu Adama won’t give up on world title dream

He may have lost a second world title fight in two years but Ghana’s Osumanu Adama insists all is not lost and he can still realise the childhood dream of becoming a boxing world champion.

Adama,now 22-4, 16 KOs suffered the most annihilating defeat of his 12 year professional career last Saturday night in Monte Carlo following a round 7 technical knockout loss to IBO and WBA Super Middleweight king, Gennady Golovkin.
It was also the first time the Ghanaian nicknamed Machine Gun has ever been stopped in the ring but Adama remains unfazed, steadfastly maintaining his belief of claiming world championship glory before he retires.

“It was a disappointing loss but I will be back and I know I can get a world title shot again, I have agood feeling it will happen. I lost but it’s not the end of the world, I can still become world champion. I have to fulfill my dream,” Adama told this writer exclusively from his Joliet, Chicago base early Monday morning.

Tyson Fury out to show why he’s ‘the most dangerous fighter on the planet’

Tyson Fury is looking to put a frustrating year behind him as he eyes a summer showdown with the enigmatic Dereck Chisora.

The Manchester heavyweight returns to action on February 15th at the Copper Box Arena, live and exclusive on BoxNation, where he faces experienced Argentine Gonzalo Omar Basile following a tumultuous end to 2013.

Fury had been all set to face former WBA heavyweight world champion, David Haye, last September, but the fight was pulled after the Londoner sustained a cut eye in sparring with only a week out from the clash.

The fight was consequently re-arranged for this February before Haye yet again pulled out, citing a shoulder injury which was claimed could force his retirement.

Floyd Mayweather Junior asks his fans who he should fight next: Khan or Maidana

Boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Junior didn’t do as was widely expected and use the platform of the always huge Super bowl weekend to announce who his next fight would be; instead Mayweather took to his Twitter account and asked his fans do do the choosing of his next opponent for him. But fans have just two names to choose from: Britain’s Amir Khna and Argentina’s Marcos Maidana.

“I’m going to let the fans vote,” wrote Mayweather. “Tell me who I should fight next. Khan or Maidana?”

It’s a pity Mayweather’s list has just two fighters on it – just think how many votes Floyd would receive if Manny Pacquiao was on the list! But as it is, it’s almost guaranteed, in my opinion anyway, that the lion’s share of the fans vote for Maidana. Ever since the possibility of Mayweather facing Khan was brought up, fans everywhere have complained of the fight being “an obvious mis-match,” or “an easy pay day for Floyd.” It’s a no-brainer that these same fans will now ask for Mayweather to get it on with the dangerous if somewhat crude at times Maidana.

Marquez changes mind about not wanting to fight Pacquiao again

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum must be smiling like a Cheshire cat right about now with the news that 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez has had a change of mind about never wanting to fight Arum’s number 1 money fighter Manny Pacquiao. Well, Marquez isn’t exactly falling all over himself at the thought of fighting Pacquiao for a fifth time, because he feels already beat him 4 times and proved that he’s the superior fighter.

By having Marquez fight Pacquiao in September, Arum will see Pacquiao’s pay-per-view numbers back into the million range where they had been for many years until Arum made the questionable decision to match him up against Brandon Rios and stick the fight in Macao, China instead of the United States.

Bradley: I’m going to erase doubts in people’s minds in Pacquiao rematch

WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) is still bothered that boxing fans don’t believe he rightfully beat Filipino Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) in their fight in 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It bothers Bradley that he’s seen as a paper champion and not a legitimate one in people’s minds because of two judges giving him a close decision that pretty much the entire world disagreed with.

“He is the superstar and he is the icon, the legend,” Bradley said to the Manila Bulletin. “He is still the top dog. I am just happy to get this chance to fight Manny again. I will make it official (this time) to erase it on people’s minds. I am much tougher now.”
