Photos: Carl Frampton defeats Parodi

Cyclone Promotions presents Boxing at The Odyssey Arena. 12 x 3 Minute rounds IBF World Title Eliminator and European Title Defence between Carl Frampton (Belfast) and Jeremy Parodi, (France)EBU super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (17-0, 12 KO’s) annihilated a badly over-matched, and underpowered Jeremy Parodi (35-2-1, 9 KO’s) by a 6th round knockout tonight at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Frampton placed a perfect left hand to the body that put Parodi down on the canvas. The referee then counted Parodi out.

The bout was not much of a fight because Parodi was too busy getting nailed with power shots for the entire fight to do much besides throwing jabs. Parodi didn’t have the armament to make this an actual fight, so he ended up taking shots one after another for 6 rounds until hitting the deck from a left hand from Frampton.

Parodi was cut over the left eye in the 4th, and the blood was obviously a big problem for him. But even if he hadn’t been cut, he wasn’t going to be able to do much in this fight due to his lack of power. Parodi was over-matched in every sense of the word.

Kell Brook says he will avenge Ricky Hatton’s loss, is ready for Senchenko

brook2Unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook had an open workout in his native Sheffield earlier today, training in front of enthusiastic fans at a big shopping mall. Brook said afterwards that he is “counting down the days” to his October 26th bout with Ukraine’s Vyacheslav Senchenko and that he is relishing the idea of the Ricky Hatton conqueror giving him a stern test.

Brook, 30-0(20) said he aims to avenge the 9th-round KO Senchenko scored over Hatton last November.

“I’m feeling great. It really gets me up when I come to Meadowhall, seeing all the fans come out,” Brook said to Sky Sports. “Training’s gone really well and I’m ready. I’ve a lot of respect for Senchenko, he’s a proven champion and ex-world champion. He’s come over here and he’s got a point to prove like he had last time with Ricky Hatton. I now want to get revenge for the fans and also for myself. I want to go out there and show why I’m talked about at the elite level.”

David Price picks Adam Booth as new trainer

price46After speaking and meeting with a number of world class boxing trainers, David Price has made up his mind on who will train him from here on in. Price, the British and Commonwealth champion, recently split with Franny Smith and he will now work with Adam Booth.

Boxing News Magazine’s web site has reported this news and Price, who must come back after back-to-back losses to Tony Thompson, told B N how he feels Booth is the man to bring out his true potential.

“It’s a fresh start,” Price said. “I can leave behind what has happened but know that I’ve learnt from it. I’ve got the passion back now and am looking forward to getting on shape and putting a few things right. I asked Adam if I could have a chat and perhaps get some advice. We did a few sessions together just to see how it would work, and then he agreed to train me. I’ve got a good feeling about this move, and truly believe Adam is the man to bring out my true potential.”

“Felix’s shows are always spectacular and I’m sure it will be a sell-out and the pressure will all be on him,” said Darren Barker, who will make the first defense of his IBF belt.

“I’ve boxed all over the world as an amateur, in some pretty hostile places, and it’s never bothered me – it inspires me. I don’t worry about the judges; I plan on winning very well, and putting on a fantastic night with lots of my fans coming over for a great fight between two great champions.”

Fight Report: York Hall, London October 4th – Retzke Crowned Champ, Impressive Victories For Prince, Weaver, Marston

PrinceVelecky3270Over the years I’ve been to some of the biggest and most extravagant World Championship events both in America and Europe, I’ve also attended hundreds of small hall shows and can’t deny that I get a buzz from them all, even those with dubious over matching, but I’ve never been emotionally blown away like I was on Friday night.

Why, well for a start Mark Prince’s return was a major factor for my emotional state and I’m sure it was for many others in attendance.

Mark had returned to the fray to raise awareness of, and funds for, the Kiyan Prince foundation – www.kiyan.org – which is a charitable trust that Mark had created in memory of his murdered son Kiyan, a talented footballer.

Another factor was former Big Brother star, Angel McKenzie, finally getting to challenge for a World title here in the UK, after various attempts abroad.

Quigg-Salinas fight to a draw, Joshua beats Leo

YouTube video
In a controversial ending the WBA super bantamweight bout between champion Scott Quigg (26-0-2, 19 KO’s) and Yoandris Salina (20-0-2, 13 KO’s) was scored as a draw tonight at the O2 Arena in London, UK. It was difficult to see what the judges saw in Salina’s performance because Quigg looked like a clear winner by at least 4 rounds possibly more. Salinas didn’t throw nearly enough punches to make the fight even.

The judges scored the fight as follows: 114-114, 115-113 for Quigg, and 114-114.

Quigg really took the fight to Salinas after the first four rounds and punished him with head and body shots. Salinas did look good defensively, but he forgot about his offense for long stretches of the fight and it was difficult to give him a lot of rounds due to his lack of offensive output.

Scott Quigg and co make weight for Carpe Diem O2 bill

YouTube video
WBA Regular Super Bantamweight Champion Scott Quigg (26(19)-0-1) on Friday weighed in at 8stone 9lbs and 9oz ahead of his first world title defence against undefeated Cuban Yoandris Salinas (20(13)-0-1) this Saturday at the O2, London. The challenger weighed in at 8stone 9lbs and 12oz.

Quigg was recently elevated to WBA regular champion after winning the interim title last November in a career best performance against fellow Brit Rendall Munroe. The champion however, refuses to acknowledge his new found status, insisting that nothing has been won as of yet.

“I’ll win this fight and that’s when I’ll become world champion,”said Quigg in an interview with Sky Sports. “Nobody wants to win a world title outside of the ring. I want to win this title in the ring against a good opponent.”

And that is what Quigg has in the form of Salinas. The Cuban is undefeated as a professional and is reported to have had over 300 amateur contests, including a victory over Chinese superstar Zou Shiming.
