Amir Khan Chasing a Possible Shane Mosley Fight for December 13th

When Shane Mosley tweeted after his recent comeback victory over the grossly unfit, chain smoking Ricardo Mayorga that he had been contacted by ‘the champ’ about a potential fight, many assumed he was talking about IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, who is set to fight once again in December if he comes through his October 24th clash with Argentina’s Diego Chaves in Sheffield, as expected.

The tweets from ‘Sugar’ went out just as Brook went live on Sky Sports in the UK to talk about the Chaves fight, and the subject of Mosley was broached on air by the presenter, prompting Brook to say that although it was a fight he wasn’t keen on, he couldn’t rule it out completely.

However, in a new twist it has emerged that it is not Brook who has been chasing a fight with the long-faded American, but ‘The Special One’s’ oft maligned rival, Amir Khan, who after failing yet again to land a Floyd Mayweather fight, had ostensibly turned his attention to trying to secure a clash with Filipino star Manny Pacquiao as a ‘next best thing.’

Yet, if these new comments from Mosley have any substance to them, Khan – coming off a life and death win over light-hitting Chris Algieri – is looking for another soft option by picking the former P4P star, who is at least 10 years past his prime, has had one fight in two years and has just turned 44 years old.

In terms of the welterweight divisional picture, Khan vs Mosley is a complete irrelevance, especially if Khan continues to refuse to fight Brook in the face of MASSIVE public appeal/demand/$$$, but continues to insist that he wishes to win a world title at 147 lbs.

“The fight that has been offered to me is Amir Khan,” Mosley told behindthegloves.com.

“Amir Khan said he might do a fight with me in Dubai, so we are checking on that, December 13, and that should be interesting.

“We’ve been talking about it, me and Amir, doing something out there in Dubai, and hopefully it works out. I can’t wait,” Mosley added.

Whether the Dubai Sports Council, who would play a large part in commissioning any event, are even aware of Khan’s plans, especially given the short notice, is unclear. Previous speculation over a 2016 Manny Pacquiao fight in the Arab State was recently quashed when the council confirmed they had no plans/provision for a (boxing) event of that magnitude in the next calender year.
