Christian Hammer stops David Price, Price's career could be over

Tonight in London in the chief support to the Eubank-Quinlan IBO super-middleweight title fight, Germany’s Christian Hammer stopped an exhausted David Price in the 7th-round of an exciting heavyweight battle. Price, in a must-win fight, had huge success early on, dropping Hammer and hurting him a number of times, but he simply ran out of gas and wilted when a determined Hammer showed he was tough enough to stick around.

The end came at the 1:20-second mark of the 7th, when Price, stuck on the ropes, open-mouthed and taking shots, forced the referee to dive in and halt the fight. Price, in losing for the fourth time, all by stoppage, is now 21-4(18). Hammer, in scoring one of the biggest wins of his career, is now 21-4(12).

Former world champion Luis Collazo (37-7, 20 KOs) delivered an early “Knockout of the Year” candidate with a sixth-round knockout of welterweight contender Sammy Vasquez Jr. (21-2, 15 KOs) Thursday night in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions on FS1 and FOX Deportes from Horseshoe Tunica Hotel & Casino in Tunica, Mississippi.

The Brooklyn-native Collazo started slow as Vasquez Jr. looked to control the fight with his movement and jab. The action began to pick-up in the third round as Collazo struck the first major blow of the fight, connecting on a right hand that sent Vasquez Jr. to the canvas.

Leo Santa Cruz reclaimed the WBA Featherweight Championship, executing a brilliant game plan to dethrone Carl Frampton in a rematch of their epic first fight in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Saturday in front of 10,085 raucous fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

With the scores 114-114 draw, and 115-113 twice, both fighters now own a majority decision and promised to settle the score in a trilogy.

On Saturday night, January 14, 2017, undefeated professional boxer, Gervonta “Tank” Davis (Baltimore, Maryland) won his first world title by defeating IBF World Super Featherweight Champion, Jose Pedraza (Cidra, Puerto Rico). Davis-Pedraza was scheduled for 12 Rounds at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, live on SHOWTIME. At the beginning of Round 7, Davis went on an aggressive offensive attack that ended with a huge right hook that floored the champion. Pedraza made it to his feet, but Ricky Gonzalez stopped the fight at 2:36 of round 7. Davis improved to 17-0, 16 by KO, while Pedraza’s record dropped to 22-1, with 12 KOs. Davis joined Joe Gans, Vincent Pettway, and Hasim Rahman as Baltimore’s only boxing world champions. Davis, 22, became the youngest boxer from Baltimore to win a world title.
