Ultra-talented bantamweight Shakur Stevenson, one of the best boxers to have represented America in the Olympics for a number of years, lost out on a gold medal in Rio – dropping a close split decision to Cuban Robeisy Ramirez. Scores were 29-28 twice for Ramirez, now a two-time Olympic gold winner, and the same score on the third card for the 19-year-old.

Mykal Fox Shows Martin Has No Magic; Mike Balogun Puts Luther Smith’s Lights Out
The Crystal City Hilton in Arlington, Virginia was host to a quality prospects card put on by Marshall Kauffman and King’s Promotions. Headlined by the lanky blue-chipper Mykal “The Professor” Fox, the couple of hundred in attendance were whipped up by the fast-paced action, even if many of the fights were a forgone conclusion.
Among the notable four rounders, Maryland middleweight Patrick Rivera made a statement in his professional debut. His opponent was Dustin Caplinger, best known as the KO victim of Terrell Gausha’s pro debut. Rivera whaled away on Caplinger right from the start, never letting up.
Miller beats Kassi by 3rd round stoppage
Undefeated heavyweight prospect Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller won by third-round TKO over veteran Fred Kassi in the ShoBox: The New Generation main event, Friday, live on SHOWTIME from Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.
Following a cagey first round that favored Kassi (18-5-1, 10 KOs), Brooklynite Miller (18-0-1, 16 KOs), turned up the body work and pressure in rounds two and three. After landing 36-of-57 power shots in the third and racking up 30 connects to the body, Kassi retired on the stool between rounds, citing a hand injury. Miller landed an impressive 57 percent of his power shots for the fight and limited Kassi to 22 percent of his hooks, crosses and uppercuts.
Results: Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller stops Fred Kassi
Heavyweight Jarrell Miller (18-0-1, 16 KOs) showed that he could beat a vulnerable and much lighter Fred Kassi (18-6-1, 10 KOs) tonight in stopping him in three rounds on Friday in a one-sided contest on Showtime Boxing at the outdoor Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, New York. The 36-year-old Kassi decided he’d had enough after the third round, so he didn’t bother coming out for round four.
Officially, Kassi injured his right hand. Unofficially, he was going to get knocked out anyway had he continued to fight, because he was making it too easy for the hefty, 296.5 pound “Big Baby” Miller by playing sparring partner against the ropes and just getting worked over.
Olympic Boxing results: Tishchenko defeats Levit
Russian Tishchenko wins Heavyweight gold on Day Ten of Rio 2016 Olympic Boxing Tournament
Monday at Riocentro Pavilion 6 saw the second Olympic Boxing Final of Rio 2016, with Russian World Champion Evgeny Tishchenko and Kazakhstan’s Vassily Levit going for gold. It was Levit who started the brightest, edging the first round with some superb attacking combinations, but Tishchenko’s longer reach always looked a threat. A strong final round from the Russian proved decisive, and Tishchenko’s arm was raised to the delight of his corner and the hundreds of Russian fans in the arena.
Antonio Margarito beats Ramon Alvarez, but please don’t let him fight Canelo!
Mexican warrior Antonio Margarito is now 2-0 into his latest comeback – a comeback the 38-year-old launched even though his eyesight may be in clear and present danger as a result – and he is now looking and calling for a big fight. On Saturday, Margarito scored a decent enough points win over Ramon Alvarez, registering a knockdown along the way to his 10-round split decision victory. The fight took place at super-welterweight, with former world champ “Tony” picking up a WBO bauble along with the win. But the really disturbing news came in the form of what Margarito, 40-8(27) called for after his latest win: a fight with the primed and peaking Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Roy Jones Jr wins wide UD over Rodney Moore, may box on
Last night in his home town of Pensacola, living legend Roy Jones Junior won a ten-round shutout over fellow veteran, “Rockin'” Rodney Moore. The 47-year old won every round on all cards, emerging with a 100-90 tally on the judges’ sheets. Now 64-9, Jones may have won via a clean mile but he is nothing like the sublime talent he once was.
Jones looks soft physically these days, if not fat; certainly nothing like the chisseled athlete he was in his prime. Finding opponents Jones Jr can beat is no easy task – Moore fit the bill though, having last picked up a win in 2002! If Jones steps up even a little, he runs the risk of losing via nasty KO (see his recent hammering by Enzo Maccarineli).
Results: Margarito defeats Alvarez
Antonio Margarito fought well tonight through the first eight rounds and then held on to beat Ramon “Inocente” Alvarez (23-5-2, 15 KOs) by a narrow 10 round split decision to win the World Boxing Organization Continental welterweight title at the Baja California Center in Playas de Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico.
Results: Miguel Flores Defeats Ryan Kielczweski
Miguel Flores (21-0, 9 KOs) defeated Ryan Kielczweski (25-2, 7 KOs) by unanimous decision (97-93, 96-94, 96-94) in the 10-round main event of Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN and ESPN Deportes from Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.
In an action-packed fight during which both fighters threw over 750 punches, the Houston native Flores was slightly more fluid and able to do enough work on the inside to keep his unblemished record intact.
Nico Hernandez defeats Carlos Eduardo Quipo Palaxt – Olympic Boxing Results
The drought is officially over for the U.S. Men’s Boxing Team. Light flyweight Nico Hernandez (Wichita, Kansas) clinched a bronze medal with his third unanimous decision victory of the 2016 Olympic Games on Wednesday night at Riocentro Pavilion 6. Hernandez’s win advances him on to a semifinal match-up and secures his berth on the podium. Light welterweight Gary Antuanne Russell (Capitol Heights, Md.) made it an undefeated night for the American squad with a unanimous decision victory in his Olympic debut.
