It was a very quiet Saturday night as far as boxing is concerned (the off-season summer period) but there were a couple of fights taking place. One of them produced a mini upset, as in Monterrey, Mexico, middleweight Roberto Garcia pounded out a pretty wide ten round unanimous decision win over his countryman Omar Chavez to capture the vacant WBC Silver 160 pound strap.

Gamboa is now 27-2(17), 22 year old Reyes, who has never been stopped, is now 15-3-1(7).
Vasyl Lomachenko dazzles again in crushing Miguel Marriaga; “Hi-Tech” expected to be back in December
Vasyl Lomachenko did it again last night: he destroyed a very capable if not exceptional fighter with nothing short of dazzling efficiency. The Ukrainian southpaw defended his WBO super featherweight belt against Colombia’s Manuel Marriaga, a whopping 100/1 underdog, and the pound-for-pound star did as expected; forcing his challenger to remain on his stool at the conclusion of the 7th round.
Results: Lomachenko stops Marriaga
WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KOs) took featherweight Miguel Marriaga (25-3, 21 KOs) to school on Saturday night in handing him his second consecutive loss in stopping him at the end of the 7th round at the Microsoft theater in Los Angeles, California.
Lomachenko toyed with Marriaga for 6 rounds until upping the pressure on him in the 7th to get a knockdown. Marriaga didn’t look hurt. He went down from an accumulation of punches. Nevertheless, Marriaga was taking a lot of machine gun type punches to the head and body from Lomachenko, and he didn’t have the hand speed or the work rate to keep him off of him.

Charlo, of Houston, Texas, dominated the pace from the beginning. Photos: Katie Taylor beats Jasmine Clarkson
Irish sensation Katie Taylor (6-0, 4 KOs) stopped Jasmine Clarkson (4-9) after three rounds of action in the latter fighter’s U.S. debut.
The Olympic Gold medalist was dominant from the outset, stalking her opponent around the ring and consistently trapping her in the corner. Taylor was effective with both hands and did most of her work to the head of Clarkson. After three rounds of damage, Clarkson’s corner stopped the bout and gave Taylor her first stateside win as a pro.
