Mayweather shows off his money, says he is happy in retirement “making seven figures a month”

They don’t call him “Money” for nothing. All-time great Floyd Mayweather Junior, might be retired, but the 49-0 star has never been shy or retiring when it comes to talking about the incredible fortune he has amassed during his career. The recently turned 39-year-old took to Instagram yesterday to show off a large portion of his cash and to also state that he is more than content in retirement.

Mayweather, who is worth around $500 million or more, posted a picture of himself counting bundles of dollars and wrote the following:

“They say “Life is that you make it” and to that, I’ll agree wholeheartedly! As I sit here acknowledging how blessed I am to be retired a year shy of my 40th birthday, it’s nearly impossible to say that I am not living the “American Dream.” Without my usual six-pack or muscle tone in sight, I can sit back and get the last laugh, knowing that I put in the “Hard Work & Dedication” to be 49-0. I’m blessed to wake up every morning, certain that my bank accounts are growing. Making seven figures a month without moving a finger, just further proves that I’ve made brilliant investments and decisions that allow me to walk away from the ring, comfortable. I’m proud to be a king.”

So, do the same fans who were certain Mayweather, with his big ego, would fight again so as to get to the milestone record of 50-0, still feel the same way? Going by what he wrote, Mayweather does seem happy and content enough, and not a fighter willing to go through another gruelling training camp. Age 39 is seriously getting on for a fighter below heavyweight, especially one who has fought for 20 years and is now filthy rich.

Mayweather has thought about how nice it would be to get to 50-0, I’m sure of that, but the longer he leaves it, the less chance there will be of him coming back. Mayweather could return to fight a Danny Garcia or even a second financial blockbuster with Manny Pacquiao, but it is by no means guaranteed that he will do so.

Mayweather’s place is now in the history books. And just where the historians place Mayweather amongst the pantheon of boxing greats is worthy of a whole article all by itself. Is Mayweather, who calls himself “T.B.E,” worthy of being placed in the top-10 of all time? The top-20? Ultimately, this is up to the fans who made Floyd the rich man he is today.
