Lucas Browne Enlists the Help of ‘The Dark Destroyer’ for Heavyweight Title Dream

Unbeaten Australian heavyweight contender Lucas Browne, has enlisted the assistance of British super-middleweight legend Nigel Benn as he gears up for his (mandatory) title shot against WBA (reg) champion, Ruslan Chagaev.

The Dark Destroyer, now resident in Australia full-time, will oversee Browne’s training regimen alongside experienced Australian trainer Rodney Williams, as “Big Daddy” makes the switch full-time from previous coach, Jeff Fenech.

In a slight ironic twist, Browne’s promoter Ricky Hatton has been working with Benn’s teenage son Conor at his fitness centre in Manchester, England, as the youngster hopes to realise his dream of making the Team GB Olympic team for Rio 2016, and it has been reported that Benn Snr spoke in depth with his friend before signing on to help out with Browne.

Australia has never had heavyweight champion of the world, and this is something that Benn is seeking to help change, with the assistance of Williams
.
“Can Lucas become a champion? Absolutely!” the Dark Destroyer said. “He has the potential to go all the way.

“He is a big old boy, he can hit hard and has natural ability and talent. He has good movement and we would love to help him to do the things he hasn’t done before so he can walk through his opponents. I want him to do things that heavyweights can’t do.

“Lucas has a vision and I know Rodney and I can help him to achieve his goals. I believe Lucas Browne will become Australia’s first heavyweight champion of the world,” he added.

For his own part, Williams shared a similar sentiment, saying;

“Undoubtedly Lucas Browne can become the next heavyweight champ. I see the potential he has and I’m looking forward to working with him to use and abuse the athleticism of a man of his size.

“I relish the opportunity to help the man mountain make Australian boxing history.”
