Former two-weight world champ Michael Moorer was enshrined into The Hall of Fame over the weekend, with “Double M” joining a number of great fighters he himself faced during his successful, indeed history-making career.
We seem to often forget who the very first southpaw heavyweight champion of the world was. Michael Moorer, a vicious banger of a nasty light heavyweight, is the man, and it was 30 years today when he did it.
As fans know, and will perhaps never forget, living legend George Foreman made boxing history at the expense of Michael Moorer, this in November of 1994, with “Big George” sensationally knocking Moorer out in the tenth round, the win seeing the 45 year old become the oldest heavyweight ruler of them all.
It’s that prestigious time of the year again, when the new class of International Boxing Hall of Fame is announced. 2024 in Canastota will, in June, again celebrate the greats, both living and passed.
