Garcia defeats Guerrero; Vasquez stops Martinez

Using movement, holding and accurate pot shots, unbeaten #2 WBC Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) defeated the slow, easy to hit Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-4-1, 18 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision to capture the vacant WBC welterweight title on PBC on Fox at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The fight was there to be won for the 32-year-old Guerrero, but he didn’t do enough in the final six rounds to get the win. David Haye (26-2, 24 KOs) will be walking into the ring tonight a considerable favorite to beat his hand-picked opponent Mark De Mori (30-1-2, 26 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Haye says he can’t wait to get inside the ring so that he can see how much he has left. Haye, 35, wants to show the boxing world that he’s a serious threat to the top fighters in the heavyweight division with his performance tonight against the 33-year-old De Mori.

De Mori may retire if he beats Haye

De Mori may retire if he beats Haye

Little known fringe contender Mark De Mori is talking about potentially retiring from the sport if he knocks out 35-year-old David Haye in their heavyweight fight this month on January 16th at the O2 Arena in London, England. De Mori, 33, wants to retire on a high point and he feels that a victory over the ring rusty Haye would be potentially a great way for him to leave boxing.

De Mori is an underdog in this fight despite the fact that Haye hasn’t fought in almost 4 years. Most fans believe that Haye will have no trouble beating De Mori, but you never know when you’ve got someone who has been out of action or as long as Haye has. He last fought in 2012 in beating Dereck Chisora. Haye’s last serious fight was against Wladimir Klitschko in 2011, and he looked really poor in that fight.

Canelo Alvarez to fight on 5/7 on HBO pay-per-view

Canelo Alvarez to fight on 5/7 on HBO pay-per-view

Golden Boy Promotions are looking for an opponent for their franchise fighter Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to fight on May 7th on Cinco De Mayo on HBO pay-per-view. The date for Canelo’s fight is now in place for May 7th, and now Golden Boy is looking for an opponent and a venue for the fight to be staged.

This will be another pay-per-view fight for the 25-year-old Canelo Alvarez, which means that Golden Boy will need to find someone that is appealing to the fans. Willie Monroe Jr. and Gabriel Rosado are the names in the spotlight. However, Golden Boy has David Lemieux as a possibility if they want to throw him back into the ring in another tough fight.

Golovkin vs. Tureano Johnson in the works for 4/23

If WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders doesn’t accept the offer made to him by IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s promoters at K2 for a unification fight in April, then Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) will face his #1 IBF mandatory Tureano Johnson (19-1, 13 KOs) on April 23rd. The fight will be televised on HBO Championship boxing at Madison Square Garden in New York.

This would not be a pay-per-view bout like the 33-year-old Golovkin’s last fight in October against IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux. Tureano, 31, is a good fighter, but he is not popular enough for Golovkin to fight on PPV against him.

Jacobs destroys Quillin in 1st round TKO

(Photo credit: Esther Lin/SHOWTIME) Former WBO 160lb champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) tasted defeat for the first time in his career on Saturday night in getting blasted out by the hard hitting WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) in a 1st round TKO defeat in a fight between two Brooklyn natives at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Jacobs landed a crushing right hand to the head that clearly hurt Quillin, who reacted poorly by backing up to the ropes and attempting to fight back. Sending blood in the water, Jacobs went after the badly hurt Quillin and unloaded everything but the kitchen sink until referee Harvey Dock stepped in and stopped the fight at 1:25 of the round after Jacobs staggered Quillin with a big right to the head.
