The 29-year-old Shabranskyy was flattened with a right hand in the 7th. The fight was stopped by the referee after that knockdown. The match was stopped at 2:05 of round five. Shabranskyy was also on the canvas in the 1st and the 5th. Barrera was knocked down in the 2nd.

In one the more poorer performances we’ve seen from WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (24-0, 12 KOs), he was forced to dig deep to beat fringe contender Artur Akavov (16-2, 7 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision tonight at the Paisley Lagoon Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. Saunders fought well enough to win between four to six rounds on this writer’s scorecards, but definitely not to deserve the victory.

In a real surprising outcome, WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (7-1, 5 KOs) got former featherweight champion Nicholas Walters (26-1-1, 21 KOs) to quit after seven rounds on Saturday night at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Walters looked befuddled all night long, but especially in rounds 4 thru 7.

Undefeated heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz (26-0, 22 KOs) looked really poor in beating American Malik Scott (38-3-1 13 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Salle des Étoiles, in Monte Carlo. The final judges’ scores were 120-105, 120-106 and 119-106.

Danny “Swift” Garcia (33-0, 19 KOs) got his tune-up fight against Samuel Vargas (25-3-1, 13 KOs) out of the way on Saturday night in beating him by a 7th round TKO in front of his Philly fans at the Lacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 28-year-old Garcia bludgeoned the hapless Vargas against the ropes in the 7th until the fight was halted by referee Gary Rosato. It was too one-sided for Rosato to let the mismatch continue. The official time of the stoppage was at 2:17 of round 7.

World Boxing Association super featherweight champion Jason Sosa (20-1-4, 15 KOs) won a tougher than expected 12 round unanimous decision over challenger Stephen Smith (24-3, 14 KOs) on Saturday night in a one knockdown performance at the Salle des Étoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Smith gave Sosa problems with his holding and sneaky combinations.
Pacquiao defeats Vargas results
Showing glimpses of his past form, Manny Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KOs) fought like a fighter half his age in handing WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (27-2, 10 Kos) a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night in their Top Rank pay-per-view fight at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Using powerful jabs and left hands, Pacquiao was able to control the fight down the stretch to win the fight by the scores 114-113, 118-109 and 118-109. Pacquiao flattened the 27-year-old Vargas with a left hand in the 2nd round. Vargas was unhurt, but embarrassed from the knockdown.

Former two division world champion Juan Manuel Lopez (35-5, 32 KOs) took advantage of an injured former WBO 122lb champion Wilfredo “Papito” Vazquez, Jr. (24-7-1, 19 KOs) to stop him in the 11th round tonight at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Vasquez Jr. suffered an eye injury that caused him problems in the 11th. The southpaw Lopez then unloaded on the 32-year-old Vasquez Jr. with a blizzard of punches to put him down on the canvas.

Arum plans on announcing the fight soon. The opponent is said to be John Molina Jr. (29-6, 23 KOs), who has lost 3 out of his last 5 fights since 2014.
