Canelo says he’s offered a fight to Lara for July 12th

With no one for him to fight that would gain him any respect from the boxing public, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KO’s) says that he’s offered WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) fight for July 12th, but here’s the kicker: Lara will only have two months in between his May 2nd title defense and the July 12th fight to get ready.

So in other words, if Lara is going to have very little time to get ready for the 23-old Canelo, and if he suffers so much as a scratch in the Ishe Smith fight, then his title defense against Canelo will go down the drain.

Arreola: I’d rather fight Fury than Deontay Wilder

#2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) could find himself facing unbeaten knockout artist #3 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) before the end of the year if Arreola is able to get past #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) in their rematch on May 10th at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

The Arreola-Stiverne 2 fight will be for the vacant WBC title that was recently vacated by long-time champion Vitali Klitschko. If Arreola beats Stiverne, he says he would prefer to fight the unbeaten British heavyweight Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) rather than the 6’7” Deontay, because he feels that Fury is more accomplished and has the much bigger fan base.

Pacquiao: I will have to hunt Bradley down

Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) full expects that he’ll need to go after WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) this Saturday night on April 12th in their rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. After watching Bradley defeat Juan Manuel Marquez last October, Pacquiao realizes that he’s going to need to really go after Bradley if he’s to get him to exchange with him.

Bradley isn’t going to fight the same kind of fight that he did against Ruslan Provodnikov. That was one-time type of fight for Bradley, and he realized afterwards that he cannot fight that same way again if he wants to keep from getting knocked out cold.

Frampton not interested in Rigondeaux fight, prefers Santa Cruz

Following Carl Frampton’s 2nd round TKO win over Hugo Cazares (40-8-2, 27 KO’s) last Friday night in their WBC 122lb eliminator bout, Gary Hyde, the manager for WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, took the opportunity to give unbeaten contender Frampton (18-0, 13 KO’s) an offer to fight for Rigondeaux’s two titles next. He even offered to bring the Cuban star over to Belfast, Northern Ireland to face Frampton in his own neck of the woods in front of his own Irish fans.

As good as that fight would be, Frampton said he’s not interested in it at the present time. He wants to fight WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz next, and he wants that fight to take place in Belfast.

Roach thinks a Khan vs. Pacquiao fight is possible

Trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t see a Top Rank – Golden Boy Promotions issue as getting in the way of a potential huge money matchup between Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan in the near future. Roach, who previously trained Khan, says he makes his own decisions about his career, and he thinks that a fight between him and Pacquiao is a definite possibility. Of course, none of this will mean anything if Pacquiao doesn’t win his next fight against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley on April 12th, and if Khan doesn’t beat Luis Collazo in their fight on May 3rd.

“Khan’s responsible for his own actions,” Roach said to the Telegraph. “Never say never. I’m not so sure it would be in England, even though Manny loves the place. He would want a truck load of money to fight there. It would most likely be in the U.S, if it ever happened.”

Frampton stops Cazares in 2nd

An unusually timid-looking 35-year-old Hugo Fidel Cazares (40-8-2, 27 KO’s) was blasted out in just two round tonight by a much younger 27-year-old Carl Frampton (18-0, 13 KO’s) in a World Boxing Council 122lb title eliminator at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. The fight ended suddenly when Frampton hit Cazares with a solid left hook that sent him staggering to one knee.

Cazares then lost track of the count and failed to get up after the referee counted him out. Instead of watching the referee while he was counting, Cazares took his eyes off of him and was grinning at his corner like he was okay. Immediately after the referee Victor Loughlin stopped the fight at 1:38 of the 2nd round, Cazares rose to his feet in disbelief and began to protest, as if he wanted to continue.

Hopkins targeting Stevenson after Shumenov fight

49-year-old IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (54-6-2, 32 KO’s) is in the last legacy-building portion of his career as he heads into his April 19th fight against WBA World light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov (14-1, 9 KO’s) at the DC Armory in Washington, DC. Hopkins wants to not only defeat the little known Shumenov to capture his WBA title, but then he plans on facing WBC 175lb champ Adonis Stevenson to try and capture his title as well.

Roach: Pacquiao won’t let up on Bradley until he surrenders

As usual, trainer Freddie Roach expects Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) to score a knockout when he gets in the ring with WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) for their rematch on April 12th. Roach thinks Pacquiao is new and improved after he rebuilt his fighting style following his loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012.

We saw some of the improvements in Pacquiao’s game in his win over Brandon Rios last November in Macao, China. And now we’re going to see some new changes in Pacquiao’s game against Bradley in their rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roach says that Pacquiao is going to go after the 5’6” Bradley and not let up until he either quits or is knocked out in this fight.
