Danny “swift” Garcia up on the rise!!

I’m curious how much money cotto will make on this fight

Tachyon: You are exactly right. My opinion is that Cotto has fought the very best and has made lots of money on PPV. He definitely was not matched up as carefully and as methodically as the likes of Chavez Jr. or Canelo Alvarez. These two have been given lots of time to slowly groom themselves gradually for championship positions, and their opponents have been chosen very deliberately. Not a lot of people complain about that but they love to hate on Cotto.

Cotto ducking Canelo. Cotto should’ve gave Chop Chop his rematch.

“Overrated?” WTF! The ONLY two guys Miguel has lost to are/will be consider All Time Greats. (You can’t count the glove-loading Margarito — It’s amazing Cotto took that many punches from a guy who essentially was hitting him with concrete knuckles.) Cotto fought Mosley when he was still near the top of his game/2007/before Shane absolutely destroyed Margarito. He beat Judah — while Judah can deliver unpredictable performances he is NO joke — and a serious threat to any fighter/just ask Vernon Paris.) And, recently, Miguel was competitive against Floyd. Plus, checkout the records of the fighters Miguel has fought/beat in the last few years — many solid opponents/with very solid records. I think a better assessment would be Miguel isn’t an A+ fighter, but is an A fighter.

Cotto takes easy fights? What kind of crap is that? You never see Cotto asking for catch weight. What a dumb statement.

Jeez I hate boxing fan sometimes…
or so called boxing fans I should say…

It’s simple. When Cotto faces elite fighters, HE LOSES! Arum padded his record with low blow wins against Judah, barely beating a faded Mosley. Not sure why Cotto has such a huge fan base, he’s overrated. He don’t want none of Pac. He cries after Mayweather soundly beats him with pillow gloves. Good B+ fighter but that’s it.

Naah, Cotto, just want to kick some pretenders’ a&& in Trout. The belt is a nice incentive too….

I applaud Cotto for being the master of his own destiny and taking a longer term assessment of the division and his future.he believes he can use his experience to beat Trout, get a belt and have the leverage for a few big paydays on his own terms, and while that’s entirely possible,it’s not likely.Trout will have the speed, power, youth advantage that will be too much for ageing Cotto, although i think it will be tighter than some might think.Trout is possibly the future of the division and i think he’s got a lot more to show than we’ve seen.I don’t think he’s ever gotten out of 2nd gear…
It’s a shame Cotto couldn’t wait to face Canelo,a fight i think Cotto would have had a great chance of winning.

one hitter, how do you figure Trout will be an “easy” fight for Cotto? And how do you justify that Cotto “looks for easier fights?” Who are the easy guys he fought–Mayweather? Margarito? Pacquiao? Mosley? Get real, man!

Posted September 1, 2012 9:46 am

Pacman has plenty to prove. You just aren’t honest with yourself.

Posted September 1, 2012 9:44 am

Someone else already mentioned it, but let me repeat it. Cotto vs Trout, and next JMM vs Bradley. Leave Pac and May in the cold with their only option to fight each other. Hey, we can dream…

Posted September 1, 2012 8:21 am

Thank you, Miguel! (Hopefully, this will help force Arum to make Pac vs May.) Plus, this will make for an interesting fight.

Posted September 1, 2012 8:17 am

I love this fight! Pacman thinks he is the draw like I said thinks! Arum needs to stop being scared and fight manny vs may! Give the fans what they want or call it a day

Posted September 1, 2012 8:13 am

Cotto was going dwn to 147 for a fight with PAC. I sad it before PAC stick is in the crapper an no one wants the catch weight crap. PAC lost his sat to fights and us going down hill fast. JMM want put up uthhis crap either.

Posted September 1, 2012 2:35 am

Good for A..Hole Arum. He ducked and dodged PBF all day and now lets see whats left, crap. The fans are finally catching up to his lame ass. The same will happen to PBF all soon with his BS picks.

pac did not only similar with breadly but beat them all!!

Tomato Can

Good For Cotto, I see nothing wrong with his choice, as a matter of fact, this is great news for Trout. Cotto deserves to fight anyone he wants, and there are other fighters out there besides Pacquiao, and Alvarez. He shouldn’t be waiting around, and do any catch weights for anyone. Good Luck Cotto…

el nino

Cotto beats Trout easy! After he does he’ll look at Canelo, Martinez, Pac man, or Money May. He needs a belt to look attractive again, plus retire as a champ.

Posted September 1, 2012 1:07 am

cotto fights trout.
jmm should fight bradley.
screw waiting around for pac and floyd to call all the shots.

Posted September 1, 2012 12:03 am

el chapo

Not surprised. cotto is his own man and fights who he wants. Like another poster stated, who cares about recycled bouts. I don’t. Much rather see cotto take on an undefeated fighter than see JMM /Pac FOUR or pac/bradley.

pacman doesnt have anything to prove he should retire, were happy seing him retire for his on own good..he accomplished everything..thats it..

Posted August 31, 2012 11:33 pm

Big Alex

This is a shocker… I thought Cotto would have pushed for a rematch with Mayweather or Pacquiao.

Posted August 31, 2012 11:32 pm

Who cares about money when you’re already as rich as Cotto!?
Fighters at that level shouldn’t be worried about paydays, they should be worried about getting the best fights out there (which Cotto has done as consistently as possible over his career)… which is why I lose more respect for Mayweather and Pacquiao every day… both could retire right now and live out their lives incredibly comfortably, yet both are still greedy for more cash that they could only ever spend in their lifetimes if they were being excessive douchebags.
Besides, where money is involved, there’s a very good chance Cotto is taking options on Trout if Trout were to win (or heck, maybe he’s taking options either way… Cotto is in such a powerful bargaining position here that I could see that as viable).

What world is this writer from? Why would Cotto except another bullcrap catchweight from Pacquiao? Its SMART not strange

Posted August 31, 2012 11:10 pm

Big props to Cotto for taking this fight against a young, undefeated fighter. Way more interesting than another recycled fight vs Pacman. If only Pac and May did the same [although Pac did something similar vs Bradley]

“This is kind of a strange move by Cotto, because he could have gotten a much bigger and better paying fight against Manny Pacquiao rather than this.” Nothing “strange” about this at all. This “fan base” and revenue crap should not be determining who fights who. Cotto has just made a very smart move. He’s after another title. Give him credit for taking on another champ. Besides, it’s Miguel Cotto. Trout may not have a huge “fan base” but Cotto sure as hell does. I’m glad to see Cotto fight him. It will be a great fight.

Posted August 31, 2012 11:00 pm

I like this fight, not sure if Trout has enough power to make Cotto stop moving forward. Cotto is at his best when he is moving forward. I will take Cotto by late stoppage. I will be watching this fight and it will be sold out in the NY

Posted August 31, 2012 10:40 pm

Cotto has fought the best and has never ducked any of the elite and who knows maybe this Trout guy may give him a great fight. Too bad Pac still wants a catchweight to fight Cotto!

Posted August 31, 2012 10:35 pm

Really? I bet you he sells out the Garden on Dec. 1st. Everybody’s acting like PAC and Mayweather are the only guys that sell tickets in boxing. I think it’s a brilliant move by Cotto to not accept a catch weight with Paquiao and show Arum he can get fights without him. I think it’s a brilliant move by Cotto to fight one of the young guys, who’s undefeated, a champion, and probably the best match-up style wise for him.
