My god…some comment posted here are patetic. Chavez only thing he has aginast MArtinez is 11 years younger and much more biger and heavier…..and yet the “old guy” trhow more….punch more….dance more for 11 rounds1!….MArtinez out boxed, punched Chavez jr for 11 rounds……HE IS OLD?????….MArtinez for your info. is an natural athlete, Thats why MArtinez fights like he has 10 year lesser thatn he actually is. MArtinez poved he was and is the REAL MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD…. afer the WBC took that belt away from Martinez that won it against Pavlik…..Chavez jr was the fake champion….and Martinez showed that!

Sergio MArtinez is one of the best boxers of the world in recent years….It is consider by many the 3 best pound 4 pound fighter. He got TECHINIQUE, NATURAL ATHLETE, SPEED, AND SMART FIGHTER!

For you is just an “old guy”????

So what are you going to say if Chavez KO’s Martinez writer? I’ll go with Roach’s opinion rather than your INEXPERT opinion any day. Amateur.

“rattle his boots.”

this is so-called “good one!” he will indeed, this martinez of argentina, rattle the boots of the aforesaid.

Posted September 14, 2012 6:20 pm

Watch another of his fighters get ko’d & leave him, roach does it to himself.

Posted September 14, 2012 4:24 pm

Roach and his idiotic predictions is quickly becoming another Buddy Mcgirt as a trainer.. they just got lucky and had some great fighters land in their laps.. they could never really create Great fighters just based on their training..

Posted September 14, 2012 3:00 pm

Roach is at least 0 for his last 5 on knockout predictions and that’s being conservative. His predictions mean SQUAT. All it IS is prefight HYPE. He probably gets a cut of the net profit. SO it benefits him to HYPE it and tell the fans what they want to hear. Every single Fight he predicts a knockout. He even SAID that Kayode would KO Tarver which everyone knew was FALSE.

Posted September 14, 2012 2:45 pm

All this talk about Chavez Jr. having a great chin is laughable.. who the Hell has he fought that tested his chin? What great KO artist did he fight at was his actual size??? When he does that and takes some devastating shots and gets past those shots with no issues then we can talk about Chavez Jr. having a great Chin.. but until then it’s a claim as silly as claiming Chavez Jr. is any kind of great Boxer… It’s all part of the illusion… aka Con Job…

Rusty B

7 Day weigh in – Chavez Jr 167, Martinez 167. That doesn’t sound to me like Jr is having weight issues.

The Mad Scientist

Tommorow night we’ll find out who stays and who goes, no excuses..both fighters know what’s at stake and what they stand gain with a victory so Im sure both combatants are well prepared to wage war..most here are tuning in to hopefully witness Chavez take a brutal beating not a competitive fight..see you all here here Saturday night or Sunday morning so you can tell us all about it..”WAR CHAVEZ!”

So many experts here, who “know” that Old man Martinez, :???: will win. What a bunch of idiots. The only boxer here, who is in danger of being totally destroyed, is Martinez. If he loses, he will be simply fade out as a side attraction, on the other hand Young Chavez Jr, can still bring another great PPV fight even if he loses. I think Martinez knows that, and he is talking trash to avoid facing his greatest fear. He is fighting a younger and stronger fighter, and the odds of winning are not completely on his favor. This is what makes this fight both interesting and exciting. Anyway, I believe Chavez Jr Strength and Youth will prevail, and Old Man Martinez will be brutally stopped.

Posted September 14, 2012 1:31 pm

If chavez follows the right strategy–cutting the ring off & jabbing & double-jabbing–to pin SM to the ropes, Sergio will be in serious trouble…if Jr. just follows Sergio around the ring, he’ll get hammered to the ground; that’s pretty much it.

I’m sorry but the quality of these reports seems to be slipping and I don’t know what the hell the author is talking about. For one, he quotes Roach as saying ” I think Martinez is a great athlete, but he’s not a great athlete” What the hell does that mean? Why would Roach say that? The author also points out that he thinks it’s interesting that Chavez was able to stop Rubio, then states he couldn’t do nothing with Rubio and had to settle for a decision. Well, which one was it? It’s articles like this that give these sites a bad name.

nonetheless, i also don’t put much weight into Roach’s pre-fight hype. there always seems to be a dissonance between that, what actually happens, and his post-fight comments, e.g., “marital problems”? pft?! give me a f’n break.

“he also predicted Martinez would too much for Dzinziruk, Barker AND Macklin”. that simply qualifies Martinez’s trainer as a smart guy to go the with the overwhelming favorite. Btw, I “predicted” that Martinez had Williams clocked-and-timed and would deliver the KO win in their rematch. however, that wasn’t any kind of brilliance either. IMO, everybody and anybody who knows boxing anticipated the same outcome.

Posted September 14, 2012 12:52 pm

Didn’t Roach predict a KO win for Pacquiao against Marquez? also…in that fight Pacquiao was technically the “brawler” and Marquez was the “boxer”, Who really won?? Same case here, Chavez is the “brawler” and Martinez is the “boxer”….you add it up!

Posted September 14, 2012 12:35 pm

This coming from the guy who predicted Pacquiao would KO Marquez. Psshhh! oh…he also predicted Pacquiao would stop Bradley too….Why should be believe him? Martinez’s trainer on the other hand redicted a KO win over Williams and got it, he also predicted Martinez would too much for Dzinziruk, Barker AND Macklin, all correct. Believe who you will.

Posted September 14, 2012 12:33 pm

Roach must have his new star pupil fully cycled and ready to go. I’m one poster that hopes it back fires on him.

Posted September 14, 2012 11:28 am

Boxstrahomo: The winner will be with the press and then out partying. I think you’ll have to settle for the loser, sorry.
But he’ll probably need some comforting so who do you want to lose?

Posted September 14, 2012 10:57 am

Roach is desperate with so many of his fighters recently flopping.. he’s got few left to leech off of… the point is that you don’t have to be a great Boxer to beat Chicken Jr. Lee was tagging him all night long until Chicken Jr’s 20+lb weight advantage and God only knows what illegal stuff was flowing through his veins started to wear down Lee…. Sergio is going to Tag Chicken Jr. alot more then Lee did and he has power that will do some serious damage to Chicken Jr.. which is not looking as big as he’s looked in prior fights because I think he knows that he won’t be able to get away with the Dieuretics cheating he’s done in the past as well as more strict testing… Chicken Jr. is going to get killed and Roach will be losing another hyped cash cow…

you can wrap those creds up with all the nice wrapping paper and bows that you want but you’re still stuck with a troubled Pavlik, overrated Williams, and “3 number one contenders” whose names you won’t mention either because you forgot (like everyone else) or because they would read like sarcastic punchlines to a joke.

Posted September 14, 2012 10:36 am

His loss to Margarito as we all might suspect is questionable as we wonder what if anything extra cheeto may have had in his gloves? Nonetheless he has been given too much of a build up for his ko of Williams and he is 37 now.
Still I would say that it will go the distance.

” . . . Jr. hasn’t beaten anyone close to being as good as past Martinez victims Pavlik and Paul Williams”? aside from biased fanboys and delusional “experts”, what true fight-fan ever considered Pavlik or Williams to be that “good”? Williams was always overrated and Pavlik only paused his own personal spiral long enough to face Martinez who he was outboxing during the middle rounds before getting cut and losing his focus and resuming his spiral into rehab. i favor Jr. over either version of these fighters eSpecially Williams. you’d think those that were pumping-up the ATG great potential of these guys before would have finally learned their lesson but i guess nothing blinds more than “hate”.

This is going to be an interesting fight for Chavez. His strength, skill, and sheer determination wont be enough against Martinez. He looked very good against Lee, who didnt pose too much of a defensive challenge. He was able to do what he wanted and break Lee down. Martinez’s awkwardness and movement will pose a defensive challenge. Also, Jr’s defense wasnt the best against Lee either; he got hit with some square, hard shots. Martinez throws punches from odd angles at times and will certainly touch Jr. Martinez also carries enough power to back him down and hurt him. Bottom line is Jr will have to adjust to give him the best chance to win and I dont know if he can.

Posted September 14, 2012 10:18 am

I don’t know Roach thinks it takes to be great… Persumably if you beat up a favored middleweight champion who’s never been beaten at 160, Destroy a Top-10er 2-Division champ who’s never been stopped, with one shot, stop 3 number one contenders, and are ranked in the Top-3 in the world, you should be on your way.

Posted September 14, 2012 10:08 am

Chavez Jr better pray he has the whiskers of his old man, because Martinez is gonna rattle his boots saturday night.

Posted September 14, 2012 10:06 am

Roach has been blessed with some top talent but they get beaten under his guidance. At least Pac objectively lost to Marquez and Khan got hammered out. Let’s see if he can go 3 for 3 this year with his top 3 box office smashes losing their world titles.

I boldly predict one of these middleweight piles of man meat will win and I hope to get a testosterone shake that I squeeze from the winner’s body myself. I am the greatest man loving boxing quicker picker ever.

Heres one of the problems Chaves has going against him this go round and it’s no surprise to everyone and that’s weight. Signing the fight Chavez looked huge almost monstrous compared to Martinez. After seeing the 24/7 episodes he’s lost a lot of weight. So what does that say, “he’s weight and muscle drained”. He spent his whole camp losing weight. Sergio on the other hand has never had to go to his fight camps and concentrate on losing weight. So comparing both by weight the advantage is Sergio. Sergio’s camp has been working on how to beat Chavez probably about 85% (Mental) and 15% on strength and stamina. Jr. 95% weight 5% mental. And lets say Jr. does have some miracle diuretic his body’s going to be screaming for H2O and cause his legs to cramp up and slow him down even more. Advantage – Sergio.

Posted September 14, 2012 8:19 am

Martinez is good but not great, his biggest wins, Pavlik and Williams they are not exactly ATG’s are they, he is the best of a bad bunch, Margarito TKO’d him so he must be great too eh, look at the GREAT middleweights of the past and Martinez wouldn’t last four rounds with them.

Posted September 14, 2012 7:52 am

Pavlik managed to nail him a few times too and hes well slow.

Posted September 14, 2012 7:45 am

OK, first of all Zabeek bedat him. ANYONE who has witnessed a prize fight and even those who haven’t and viewed that fight (WITHOUT SOUND) would agree. Second, he WAS on the same substance that Manny was on during the Lee fight. If you look back at Paciou/Cotto..I think around the middle of round 4 Cotto catches Manny with a HUGE right that he never saw coming -right on the button. Super Slo-mo it ! Basically Manny didn’t even flinch, wince, or BLINK for that matter. Truely an instance where some form of PED is in play- during and after that fight he had leg cramps ! Now FF to the Julia Ceasr Jr, / Lee fight. Andy Lee has alot of punching power , ALOT ! Review that fight and you’ll see the same. A better than average KO puncher hitting a guy squarely in the face and there is NO REACTION like punching a Zombie….after the fight…………you guessed it, he complained of leg cramps. This time it was SO BALTANT because Julia couldnt produce a urine sample before the fight and didn’t have to afterwards because the commissioner Jose Suliman is his godfather ! So you see. Now onto this fight…..Julia C-A-N-N-O-T H-U-R-T Sergio, Sergio C-A-N H-U-R-T Julia with either hand at any time. I firmly believe that this is a bad decision for Julia to take this fight but I have a feeling that Julia Sr. convinced him to. Bad choice guys !!!

Who cares about Roach’s predictions….

Giuliano del Valle

If Chávez against Maravilla does the same he did when he fought Lee, he will be punished a lot, and I don’t see him doing something different.

Posted September 14, 2012 6:41 am

It won’t be the first time Mr Roach has predicted nonsense, nerh! I am just saying!

Posted September 14, 2012 6:06 am

Roach predicted Pac would KO Marquez and Bradley and we all know what happened. Neither of those fighters mentioned here (Peter Manfredo Jr., Marco Antonio Rubio, Sebastian Zbik and Andy Lee) had the power to prevent Chavez from moving forward and applied pressure. Martinez is in a completely different level and if Chavez takes him lightly, he’ll find himself on his seat of his pants.

This fight is difficult to predict though because Chavez has looked great against Lee, not only showing power and determination, but he looked very strong. Another reason is his size, which could be on his favor or against him. If he had a good training without any weight issues, it’ll be on his favor, but if he had a rough time maintaining the weight, then he may find himself struggling in the later rounds.

As for Martinez, he has a lot of power, which makes it difficult for his opponents to follow their fight plan. It’ll be interesting to find out whether or not Chavez has the chin to take those punches. He’s also a determine fighter and has worked hard for this fight. If he can gain Chavez’ respect early, he’ll win the fight. On the other hand, he’s small middleweight and that will be a disadvantage against Chavez. He also has a tendency to fight with his hands on his side and those bad habits are somewhat difficult to overcome. If he does that against Chavez, he may get KO.

Posted September 14, 2012 5:48 am

He really isn’t! For someone who is so “slick” he sure did get hit alot in his last fight.
