Buff McGirth

Overwritten, pretentious nonsense.

The author is a Mayweather hater and i smell alot of ignorance and jealousy. Not worth my time reading articles like this full of idiotism, sillicism and cynicism. How on earth will this author talk of Mayweather fighting an “old Paquiao”? How old is Mayweather? and how ols is Pacquiao?

Very good article here

Hey Angel, I was quoting and responding to what Tark posted.

Silva got KTFO! !!!! Mayweather you’re next!!!!

Whats FUNNY is how people get FOOL, suck in and NEVER notice it.. I LOVE the K brothers, they have a way of KNOCKING US heavy weights OUT!!!!! All heavy weights for that matter.. But do I watch a P4V NOPE. Why NO competition I already KNOW whos going to WIN.. Yes an UPSET does occur from time to time.. Cherrypickers FIGHTS, HAND pick old shop worn out fighters past their prime, OR some clown that had NO right to be in the ring with Cherrypicker.. People CAN NOT SEE this!!!!!!!!! I will PAY for PAY FOR VIEW this time… WHY? Canelo is NOT OLD and SHOP WORN.. It WONT be a EASY WALK IN THE PARK for CHERRYPICKER, It will BE a CLOSE COMPETATIVE FIGHT.. More than likely a KNOCK out for Canelo. Its FLOYD who is on the DOWN SLIDE of his carreer, NOT Canelo.

Posted July 7, 2013 3:06 pm

But YES, anybody can be knocked out. It’s just that some fighters have a lower risk of being knocked out.

Posted July 7, 2013 1:22 pm

Silva defeat…

It’s easier to lose and get knocked out in MMA than it is in boxing because there are so many more factors that go against you.

Silva got knocked out because he clowns to much. He leaves his hands down and he pulls back and leaves his chin exposed. The right athlete/fighter comes along and he will expose that.

Posted July 7, 2013 1:21 pm

The combination is your character and talent. Or the “It” factor. Be the best at it.

Posted July 7, 2013 1:18 pm

So again, people watched/listened to Joe Louis because he was JOE LOUIS…hero of the people. People that never were into boxing watched and listened to him.
Same with Ali. Same with Tyson. Same with Oscar and so on.

You can talk to so many people and if the name is said out loud like MIKE TYSON, they will say something about that person and you can respond back for example….”yeah, you like boxing?” and they will respond back with…”No, I just watched Tyson.”

How man more people suddenly found an interest in golf when this young phenom named Tiger Woods came on to the scene?

People tend to root for the person first and then what he does for a living. But he tends to have to be great at it. not just “great” but phenomenal.

Bobby Fischer was a “Star” in chess. That’s CHESS. How many have been able to repeat the Star Power he had in chess?

Posted July 7, 2013 12:49 pm

This was my exact quote:

Floyd’s an “American” fighter. Americans have a lot to choose from. Not just in boxing, not just in sports, but overall, a lot to choose from. So how was Floyd going to grab your attention to him when you can be out doing something else on a Saturday Night? {end quote}

I say Floyd needed something more than his skills and smile to bring in the extra viewers. Others may say that he didn’t and he should have stuck with the Pretty Boy Floyd character. But Floyd was proven right with the Money May character because he knew what was missing from the sport- the villain. And he said this himself.

The most money that comes in is from the casual fan and not the boxing fan. That’s how SRL, Tyson, and Oscar made their money compared to the others. And the same going back before then. It was the Fighters that could transcend past the fight fans into the casual viewer that made the most money. There is no debate with this. Promoters and Fighters know that the majority of the fight-fans are a given. They will pay. but get the casual viewer in, and the ones that just join in, and that’s when the big money comes in.

YES, some won’t care no matter what but many people want to be a part of something. That’s what Joe Louis was able to do. Ali was able to do. Tyson was able to do. Oscar was able to do. And once they were gone, so were those people.

Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps and so on.

“Angel…, How is Floyd going to grab people’s attention away from all the other cheaper things they could be doing on a Saturday night??? By being the greatest fighter on the planet”

Hardly. There’s plenty of people who don’t give a hoot about boxing no matter who the superstar is. They don’t care because they have no interest in boxing, so they won’t watch the fight. It means nothing to them. The people buying Floyd’s fights want to see the fight, They aren’t being “pulled” away from anything because watching that fight is what they want to do.

I found Valenzuela’s article to be fairly mind-numbing.

American Chris Weidman just KTFO outta the great Anderson Silva!!!

Great job, Chris, on bringing the MMA MW Championship of the World Title/Strap back to the USA!

Silva said that he DOES NOT want a rematch with Weidman.

Yep yep… Mayweather is a slow starter but he picks up the pace mid thru the fight. Canelo needs to throw him off his rhythm.

I’m a long time fan of Manny Pacquiao but I ‘m going to put my neck on the line that he will get stopped by Brandon Rios. A few bloggers have said this is a mismatch and Rios is nothing but Rios is tough as they get and he was the better fighter in the gym when Antonio Margocheato was in their gym in CA. Rios lost in his last fight but Rios was the one doing all the chasing and fighting. Manny’s life style just ruined his boxing and the latter became the lesser important thing in his life as a politician. Manny should quit boxing and do what is truly more important to him is to help the oppressed people of his country.

ERECTODUMDO Cherrypicker is an EXCELLENT boxer. Theres NO denying that.. look at his past fights the first 4 or 5 rounds cherry picker lost (Delahoya) But Cherrypicker KNOWS that the guy in front of me will EVENTUALLY run out of GAS.. Thats when Cherrypicker takes over.. Smart man. Yes Croley old Mosley has tag him. CANELO can PUNCH!!!!! A real wrecking ball.. Cherrypicker is getting OLD himself . Feet movment a little SLOWER.. Defence getting weak, Stands more flat footed.. Canelo can PUNCH, the reason Canelo is DANGEROUS is because NOBODY knows what he is going to do???? In the trout fight he use his head, NOT running in a slugging, he OUT box the BOXER trout. trout came in was UNDEAFTED by the way. Canelo gets better and better every fight . Canelos defence is better to. Canelo is YOUNG NOT OLD!!!! Canelo is STRONG with good boxing skills.. Canelo has WEIGHT advantage also. A natural 154 pounder… This is a interesting match up. The ROLES have change its Cherrypicker on the down slide. Canelo YOUNG and STRONG.. Also Canelo has good hand speed to.. A classic match up. There goes CHERRYPICKERS 0

They all do what they have to do in order to make a career out of this tough sport. I can’t do what there doing as boxers so good for them.

Pac has been carefully matched just like the rest. And Roach has been relatively honest about it.

That’s my main point. They all do it.

Could Floyd have done more? YES.

Could Pac have done more? YES.

Posted July 6, 2013 8:51 pm

I see Good: Hopkins stayed and milked the MW division for a long time. He never wanted the rematch with Roy Jones jr. despite talking it up. He could have moved up for Roy in his prime but didn’t. He could have moved up years earlier and fought Calzaghe and he didn’t.

Froch fights at 168 ONLY.

Floyd has moved up divisions. Imagine him staying in one division his entire career?

Posted July 6, 2013 8:41 pm

When he gets stunned is when he digs up the Detroit in him. I remember the fist time seeing that with Corley and was amazed at what I was seeing from him. He weathered the storm in such a calm fashion and then went on the attack. but because he went on the attack, he got slightly stunned again but kept coming in order to hault Corley’s momentum and he did. And Corley never regained ground.

NOW, I have always wondered if it will ever catch up to him. NO, not because of a “Finisher” would put a stop to his ability to weather the storm and stop your attack but what about age, inactivity and decreased reaction/speed times. That has to catch up to you at some point.

Maybe at some point he won’t see the punch at all (like he didn’t against Corley) but this time he is fighting someone that’s bigger and hits much harder and it will be over. And his recovery ability just won’t be the same because of his age as well.

EVERYBODY can be knocked out.

Pac just got knocked out and that hasn’t happened since he was a starving kid from the Philippines. It just takes that perfect punch.

Angel Cherrypicker NEVER fool me.. He AVOIDED the GREATS in their PRIME.. Good Marketing Skills to go with his BOXING skills.. True MEN in my EYES, Like him or hate him. BERNARD HOPKINS with his mugging grabbing UGLY style. NEVER AVOIDED anyone. Like him or NOT… Loud mouth FROCH like him or hate him, never backs out of a challenge. I NEVER boght any p4v of cherrypicker because it was a cherry pick fight with a OLD past his prime boxer. OR some clown that SHOULD not EVER been in the ring with Mayweather. NOT competative at all!!!!! This is a COMPETATIVE match I will BUT P4V yes its worth the money. As for PACMANS fight not worth it PACMAN win EASILY… As in the BRADLEY fight PACMAN was ROB!!!!!! Oh well what goes around comes around. Now he KNOWS what Marquez felt like after their 4 past fights. But Cherry picker NEVER fool me, just 90% of the public

Posted July 6, 2013 6:14 pm

Get it in your head: this fight is no longer significant! The time has passed! The time for the fight was when Pacquiao was hot. People will still watch it…but hardcore fans know, the boat has sailed!

Exactly my point. Mayweather does not have an inpenetrable defense. He gets hit, some people are to stupid to not see it that way. Canelo will check that chin.

Posted July 6, 2013 5:18 pm

I think the times he got nailed by Mosley, Judah, Cotto, et al, make Mayweather a pretty exciting fighter… Tons of people come to his fights.

Posted July 6, 2013 5:17 pm

Mayweather isn’t some type of super human, he gets caught sometimes. He just doesn’t get tagged as much as most, so whenever it happens fans don’t forget it. Marquez chaff him a couple of time Corely did, Cotto did and so did Mosely. But really you can add all the times Maywaethers been caught solidly throughout all his fights and compare that to what average fighters get caught with in one fight, hin e the boring fighter accusations….

Posted July 6, 2013 5:06 pm

Mayweather has slowed down and his defense has cracked, an over the hill Mosley wobbled him.

Canelo is out matched he is bigger and stronger yes, But slower and lacks stamina. Money will expose him on every level. Floyd is a complete fighter and it takes one to beat him not a one demenitional guy with power. Your hand cannot hit what your eyes cannot see, He wont be able to crack the defense of mayweather or have a answer to all the counters he will eat, UD or late stoppage for Floyd easy work once again, 46-0 coming up and another 100 million in the bank…lol

You can say the same thing about Pac with fighting fighters at the right time.

Posted July 6, 2013 2:10 pm

Who does this “author” want Floyd to fight other than Pacquiao if Floyd is supposedly “cherry-picking”?

Should we really go back down the list of what Pac has down in the way he has down it through “Timing” and “Demands” ?
Is that supposedly any better?

I would like to see an article that both praises and criticizes the both of them because you can do both with both.

Posted July 6, 2013 2:06 pm

As far as Bob Arum, how come he couldn’t make Floyd more popular and it was only after he left Bob Arum that he took off?
That’s why Floyd gets the credit. Floyd was working with one fighter, the same fighter, himself…and he took the product and made it reach heights the other “genius” couldn’t.

Posted July 6, 2013 2:01 pm

If the consumer has 3 choices: good, better, and best, he’s going to choose best if he can afford it {end quote}

Pretty Boy Floyd was better and yet Money May was chosen by both the boxing fans and general public. How do you explain that?

How do you explain that Floyd became more popular and made more money than Shane Mosley?

The Best is not always chosen. We see this all the time in other parts of entertainment or the “Arts.”

Acting, Comedy, Writing, Painting, Music, etc. etc. etc.

What Floyd has been “Best” at is Promotion on top of his skills. He knew what you wanted and he gave it to you and he can back it up.

Angel…, How is Floyd going to grab people’s attention away from all the other cheaper things they could be doing on a Saturday night???

By being the greatest fighter on the planet — fighting his toughest possible logical opponent… I guess you never took a business class… If the consumer has 3 choices: good, better, and best, he’s going to choose best if he can afford it … and he or she just happens to like Boxing.

There’s a lot of boxing fans out there — even if the American right-wing media is trying to bury the sport.

Posted July 6, 2013 1:22 pm

MNboxingFAN – Sean

I’m not disagreeing that Floyd is catching these fighters at the right time which is when they are past their primes, but that’s part of boxing the fault of the belt commissions. I mean the alphabet soup belts need to do their jobs and enforce the mandatories… and not give fighters a year or more to make the defenses. It’s not a coincidence that Floyd loves the WBC, because Suleiman is a joke and makes his own rules. Diamond belts? Interim belts? Stripping Andre Ward who never turned down a fight… yet letting Floyd keep his belt while campaigning in another weight class. Hypocrisy knows no bounds in boxing, but what can we do? I’m just saying that all of that aside… I enjoy watching Floyd fight. Yes I’m usually watching to hopefully see him lose, but I cannot deny his skill. I don’t think he’s as good as he thinks he is… or his fans… I mean he’s not the best PFP of all time in my book. He’s not even top 10 in my book… but I’m just a fan… and a Pacquaio fan at that… so what do I know? lol

Funny, “Pretty Boy Floyd” was better to watch and that’s who I became a fan of and yet it was “Money May” that brought in the bigger numbers and it was that version of Floyd I wasn’t as much a fan of as far as the story/character he portrayed. Skills, always.

Shane Mosley was exciting at LW. He had a high KO ratio. He had that smile and he had that nice guy act down like SRL did. But we already had SRL. And we had The Golden Boy during that time. Floyd saw this. And he knew the boxing business and the entertainment value works better when following the Old Hollywood Script of Good Guy vs. Bad Guy. And it worked. So how was Floyd going to stand out? You invent “MONEY MAY.”

MNSboxing fan -shawn.. I think you miss something FLOYD fought great fighters when they were on their down slide NOT in their PRIMES, you seem to forget to mention that. I was NOT impress by cherrypicker when a OLD PAST HIS PRIME Delahoya JAB cherrypickers head off in their fight.. OLD AGE caught up to OSCAR. Thats why OSCAR says JAB JAB JAB.. Heres coreect what Oacar fails to mention if I WASNT OLD WORN OUTm PAST my PRIME … Oscar would of WON that fight EASILY..After 5 rounds CHERRYPICKER took over thats true… Mosley OLD MAN past his prime TAG cherrypicker….. Canelo is NOT OLD and hits harder than OLD shop worn MOSLEY… ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Theirs DOUBT in the AIR NOW!!!!!!!!!! Even CHERRYPICKER fans say It could go either way..No walk over for cherrypicker. this time. NOPEY NO… ha ha ha ha I will GLADLY PAY for PAY FOR VIEW… WHY????? Because Canelo has a GOOD chance of winning. It will be a competative fight. Not a cherrypick fight.. Go Canelo

Some disagreement I have with this article I am NOT a cherrypicker fan at all. Paqcman was GIVEN 2 gift decissions in the Marquez fights. ROBBERY Thank God MARQUEZ got his revenge inSPADES!!!!!!!!! So I always stated on this FORUM.. WHY??? WHY??? Did CHERRYPICKER RUN from PACMAN.. Avoided PACMAN like the plague??? Cherry picker did beat Marquez hands down… I SAID it many many times CHERRYPICKER would and could EASILY BEAT pacman… I would be CHEERING for pacman but my MONEY would be on Cherrypicker… Oh well Canelo has got Cherrypicker thinking NOW, NOT like the past 40 fights Cherrypicker has fought. Cherrypicker could of KnOCK out his appononents at any given time. (I am NOT a cherrypicker fan) Why did STUPID people buy Cherrypickers p4v anyways???? I knew the out come Cherrypicker VICTORY NO PROBLEM.. Like why P4V a Klitchko fight in the last 5 years also. I LOVE the Kbrothers. This CANELO problem yes problem Cherrypicker stood up tp the plate. HE WISHES HE HADNT NOW!!!!!!!!!! He has DOUBTS now, first time in his carreer, Yes its DANGEROUS why why why cherrypicker is asking himself???? This kid is NOT old worn out. Hmmmm. What was I thinking????

MNboxingFAN – Sean

It’s easy to ask, “What if?” or pose the “If only…” scenarios. The problem is Floyd isn’t going to change. So the writer, fans who hate Floyd, and people like myself need to get over it and not let it bother us so we can enjoy what Floyd does inside the ring. I won’t give Floyd, or any fighter for that matter, a pass for their stupid behavior, but I will give Floyd credit for what he’s done and continues to do. Which is take fighters that we all hype and get excited about… and make them look amateurish or B’ Level at best against him… and to be fair there aren’t that many B’ Level fighters when compared to Floyd. As far as Pacquiao is concerned he is still my favorite fighter, but Rios needs to be given respect. Brandon Rios has all the tools to beat Pacquiao. Number one of which is a granite chin. It’s highly unlikely Manny will KO him. We can say he should all we want, but don’t ignore the reality. Rios has been more active and is hungry. Manny is on his way out and has been in many more wars than Rios. If Manny loses this… especially if he loses by KO… will be the end. Which will in no way diminish what he’s accomplished, but that’s reality. Floyd isn’t going to have nearly as hard a time with Canelo. I see that fight going the distance. Should be exciting in spots, but the Rios vs Pacquiao fight is the one to watch because one of them isn’t going to be finishing that fight!!!

The only way

The only way We will have a chance of ever seeing Mauweather-Pacquiao is if Floyd loses to Canelo. As much as I dislike the fact Canelo doesn’t deserve to be fighting Mayweather, I want him to win only for that reason and no other. So start rooting for Canelo for that odd reason fellas. Let’s make Pacquiao-Mayweather happen.

The MAGIC will ALL be over.. Millions down the DRAIN… First The MEGA MEGA MEGA MILLION dollar$$$$$$$$ Went down the DRAIN. For CHERRY PICKER.. Marquez DESTROYS PACMAN. (Revenge after 2 ROBBERIES) Like Martinez KNOCK OUTover the PAUL WILLIAMS, in rematch, first fight ROBBERY) Now Canelo will KOCK OUT Cherrypicker or make Cherrypicker RUN all night long, More likely a KNOCK out for Canelo Cherrypicker is OLD and cant RUN anymore. So there you have it a changing of the guard. So the PACMAN and Cherrypicker fight will happen when the DUST settles, but WHO cares they are (or cherry picker will be after September 11) both LOSERS. Its to bad CHERRYPICKER RAN from PACMAN in the first place, the MONEY they BOTH could of made would or never could be beaten. But then again Cherrypicker fights great fighters on their DOWN side when their CARREERS are over. Cherrypicker is a great fighter thats a given, but ALSO a smartest man in BOXING, AVOID greats in their PRIME. Thats the ticket. Go CANELO go

Floyd is not going to stop Alvarez.. That’s stupid.. Floyd has 2 KO’s in his last 9 fights over 7 years or so.. He only stopped Hatton and Ortiz, 2 guys with no stance, no jab, no straight power punch, and no defense.

Alvarez has the whole package, plus he’s fast and can punch.

I think Floyd will stop him late because of Canelos stamina issues. People can say he ducked Pac all they want but the fact is the fight was never gonna be made because of Arums involvement

September 15th is gonna be a very very hard day for haters.

Btw, Google is the standard of search engines. if you can’t cite Google, you might as well not embarrass yourself by citing anything else.

Lol Pacs popularity is not that high anymore. It has been diminishing ever since the Mosley fight. I don’t see how someone could sell so many PPVs just by mentioning a name. Just can’t be done. And what is even more funny is that in any Pac fight they are always mentioning Floyd. So he must all be riding his back then huh?

Posted July 5, 2013 11:34 pm

Wow! Another Floyd article with Pacman on it! Like I said Floyd rides Pacman’s popularity to gain some people to watch him! It will not work anymore!

Posted July 5, 2013 11:09 pm

Prof Konje

The first few lines told me all that I wanted to know. The writer really hates Mayweather, but why? He’s beaten all who have faced him. It’s not his fault that he’s too talented to be beaten. Why does the writer assume that the boxing public misses Pacquaio? What was so special about him if you take away the catch-weights and the bouts with fighters on their down-side? Face reality.

Posted July 5, 2013 9:57 pm

That won’t happen. And a win over Rios will not get him there either

Posted July 5, 2013 9:51 pm

Floyd will eek out hard fought ud. Pac should blows rios out the water thats y rios was cherry picked! My hope is that may, gbp, arum, n pac can finally sit down n make the dream fight happen! All parties are to blame y the fight hasnt happen. Time to put all egos n check n give the fans what they want! Stop blaming pac! Stop blaming may! Pac may not be able to handle Rios if his chin is still in shambles. I am picking Rios by late round KO. If the Pac that showed up preKO in the Marquez fight then he should be able to handle Rios. If the Pac that showed up for Bradley shows up then Rios wins. I agree with the post below though.

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

Simple, both beat De La Hoya and inherited alot of the coverege from the media-circus…After Pacmans loss, his status would have declined had it not been for Mayweather still around and a potential fight between them….If Anyone beats Mayweather that person will inherit the circus…But let’s npt forget that any decent HW ftom the US to emerge after the K-Bros retires will be the next golden boy in America….
