@ anonymus
I agree with you, Guerrero is not ready to face floyd.

Posted November 30, 2012 11:05 pm

@big george
Are you referrring to Ortiz fight, or the Cotto fight. Were really that impressed with those fights? Lets be honest here, Floyd couldnt finish Cotto? Couldnt even finished a tiny Marquez? Im not saying Floyd is a fraud, he is really good, but not to school Martinez at any weight class. Can you answer why Floyd would only fight martinez at a catch weight of 150lbs.

Posted November 30, 2012 11:01 pm

Big George

Money schools Martinez at 160Lbs… it doesn’t matter. Floyd has a lot more game than Sergio last year, this year and next year. That’s Real Talk..!!!

Posted November 30, 2012 9:45 pm

@ boxtradamus:
I respectfully disagree with your comment. I honestly believe Floyd relies a lot on his great defense skills. But Mosley managed to weave a punch through floyds defense and Floyd was in trouble. Floyd doesnt want any part of Sergio at 154. He would only fight him at a catch weight of 150. Floyd is a great boxer, but not great enough to school a fighter like martinez. It would be a great fight i tell you that much, but floyd is too afraid to fight a boxer that can really give him a fight.

And as much as Floyd prefers fighting on the outside he won’t get abused on the inside like Berto did. In fact he will OWN Guerrero on the inside.

Posted November 30, 2012 10:30 am

First off of all those guy you listed only Marquez is older than Martinez. In other words, Martinez would like to have a big money and event fight since he is near the end of his career. Andre Ward only clean out the division due to the showtime network creating the super six tournament. I am not saying that Ward won based on the arrangement of his fight in that tournament. What I am saying is that his management team would not have on their own setup a fight schedule like he had in the tournament on their own. It was hard for Martinez to move up in the ranking at 154, since no one wanted to fight him. Don’t forget the only reason he got a shot at Kelly Pavlik is because of Pavlik’s fail arrangements with Paul Williams due to injuries.

MW CHAMPS have been beaten by WW CHAMPS before or are you too new to the Sport to know that??? IF its been done once it CAN be done and HAS been done again. Floyd can beat Martinez whether he’s a MW or not SO that’s not a factor. As long as its still the Sport of Boxing Floyd is the BETTER man. The BETTER man WINS most of the time. Martinez’s Defense is too POOR to beat Floyd. Floyd is the most accurate puncher in the ENTIRE History of Boxing….WIth that Rubber Duck Defense Martinez’s face would be beaten to a pulp…….Floyd should let him come in at 160 SO that the speed advantage will be even GREATER than it already IS.

The Prince

Guerrero is a mandatory challenger to Floyd’s belt. Last time I checked, the champion fighting the number one challenger to his belt, is the job of the champion. And I believe Guerrero will make it a good fight. Floyd will win, but it won’t be a cake walk. I believe Guerrero has be obsessively studying Mayweather and will have his moments in the ring.

Boxing fans in the U.S. specially the homegrown american natives who just confined themselves in front of their keyboards, have their own perceptions that their boxing idol is also popular outside of U.S., but in reality is not… I am a frequent traveller and very disappointed to know how Floyd’s fared in France’s grapevines workers, these people’s idea of Floyd, Jr. is just a boxer who is very afraid to fight Manny Pacquiao…

Anonymous says :
Mayweather needs to stay busy these next few years and cash in while he still can….doesn’t matter who he fights, the fans will be there…in the meantime he’ll be giving fellows boxers a chance to make a buck….like Ali did by fighting in different countries against little known fighters.
I don’t agree with the above statement that Foreman who fought Ali in Zaire and Frazier who fought Ali in the Philippines are little known fighters… they were
the heavyweight champions then and Ali was just a challenger… but Ali prevailed to be the best…

Manny Pacquiao is in parallel of Muhammad Ali’s greatness … they have one thing in common … I N V A S I ON !

Ali invaded Asia and Africa during ’70s and Manny Pacquiao invaded Europe and Continental America almost a decade ago and up to the present…
These 2 boxing greats did not confined themselves in their own jurisdiction but they stepped outside the limitations of an ordinary boxer.

Some are so famous in their localities like Mayweather, jr. but outside of U.S., they are relatively unknown…

Largo if Sergio’s a 154 pound fighter, let him start fighting there? Since he wants to move down what if FMJ decides to go back to 147 where he belongs?? Oooops?? Again we all know he’s a MW and I have 5 fights and 3 years to back that point..

Posted November 29, 2012 10:00 pm

Guerrerro throws a lot of punches just like everyone else does until they get in the ring with Floyd. Berto has NO defense. Floyd has historically great defense. Floyd is very accurate. This fight will be just like Floyd likes–non competitive. I think Guerrerro would have a tough time against Quintanna. I don’t think he’d win 3 rounds against Bradley. Would’nt mind seeing him agains Abregu because he has no defense either and is tough and hits hard. Floyd should fight Pac before Pac loses any more interest and focus in the sport. I think Pac would have beaten Floyd after the Cotto win because he was at his prime then. I think he has slowed enough for Floyd to beat him now. The next guy for Floyd to fight I think is Canelo. I don’t see any other Jr. Welter beating Canelo. Kirkland Canelo would be fun for as long as it lasted, but Kirkland takes too many punches and loses dicipline in the ring.

Posted November 29, 2012 8:49 pm

And while I’m venting here, let me add the whole Pac vs Floyd debacle has gone from plain stupid to annoyingly irritating. I blame both fighters for not making the fight happen. I love both of them, but I’m will NOT tune in to watch either, until they are in the ring together. And that better happen darn soon — like 2013!!

Posted November 29, 2012 8:44 pm

Granted Guerrero would be a decent fight — the guy has an incredible chin and throws lots of punches. BUT this is NOT the fight fans want to see, period. Fans want Pacquiao vs Mayweather, BEFORE they are both wheelchair-bound. Schafer, why don’t you and Bob [Arum] make that *&^%$# fight happen!!!

Posted November 29, 2012 8:36 pm

I knew this was going to happen. Neither Berto or Guerrerro belongs in the ring with Floyd. Why does HBO pick these “elimination” fights that everyone knows the winner will not be competitive against Floyd. Of course Floyd will take these easy fights. He knows he has no chance of getting hurt, beaten, and he does not have to train for them. Please people don’t settle for this fight!

Posted November 29, 2012 8:08 pm

Floyd won’t let the opportunity slip away. He’s saving it for his last performance. It’ll be just like when Michael Jordan retired after hitting the final shot against Utah. #nothinglefttoprove

Posted November 29, 2012 6:38 pm

As stay busy fight, while Sergio recovers from surgery,Floyd could beat the hell outta Canelo or Guerrero…just saying.

Posted November 29, 2012 6:26 pm

Pac will definitely get beaten by JMM, so the only true test to Floyd’s greatness will be Sergio. Why let that opportunity slip away? That’s a very winnable fight for May.

Posted November 29, 2012 6:22 pm

That was in response to… “Of course he’s working on a Guerrero bout, since it’s an easy payday”

Posted November 29, 2012 6:15 pm

Guerrero has NEVER been beaten easily in his LIFE. SO when you can beat Guerrero easily that’s called GREATNESS.

Posted November 29, 2012 6:14 pm

Leonard, Duran & Hearns fought guys way bigger than them & they gave good account of themselves; that’s what greatness is all about…Sergio can make 154 on his sleep; SREDMOND, stop it, you’re looking foolish.

Posted November 29, 2012 6:11 pm

“How do you become #1 by fighting a guy that is really 2 weight classes beneath you?”-Because the guy 2 weight classes beneath you is the #1 guy in the ENTIRE Sport. Boxing is a Sport NOT a division. And as long as you and the other guy are in the same Sport its a viable Fight as long as you aren’t 20 lbs apart. Berto just tried to beat a guy that came from 2 weight classes beneath him and he got BEAT….The BETTER man WINS as long as there isn’t a 20lb weight discrepancy.

Posted November 29, 2012 6:00 pm

Last time I checked Sergio is 1 div bigger than Floyd & Martinez is a small middleweight,& Sergio is willing to come down & defend 154lb-160lb he owns these divisions.Floyd-guerrero is laughable but floyd sure likes picking low risk huge reward fights.Like Marquez 2 div below haha stupid hypocrites.

Posted November 29, 2012 5:59 pm

How do you become #1 by fighting a guy that is really 2 weight classes beneath you? Reality is that Martinez wants to make to make the # 1 B side paycheck in boxing but he and Floyd Mayweather are NOT in the same division… I know I know all those MW fights we saw Martinez in were a mirage and all the WW fights we saw Floyd in were as well…. BUT reality is that Floyd had ONE bout at 154 over the past few years that does not slate him for the division for life… Meanwhile we have NOT seen Martinez at 154 in years, he has grown into a hard hitting fully MW….Ward is trying to become #1 by cleaning out his OWN division, Donaire is fighting for P4P Greatness by climbing the scales as are Marquez and Pacquiao did also…. How is Martinez going to enhance his legacy by chasing a WW despite Floyds Greatness??

Posted November 29, 2012 5:14 pm

Fight Aficionado

Of course he’s working on a Guerrero bout, since it’s an easy payday and successfully avoids Pac. Boycott.

Posted November 29, 2012 5:14 pm

It isn’t unfair for Floyd to face Martinez. Martinez would get SCHOOLED. It will happen SOON enough. But IF it happened right now it would be the END of Floyd’s career. Because after he SCHOOLS Martinez WHO else is anyone going to take seriously vs. Floyd??? Its BETTER for Floyd to lead UP to the Fight and then sing his swan song leaving the Game in the hands of Donaire, Ward, Dirrell, and Broner. The Game will be left in GREAT hands.

Posted November 29, 2012 4:53 pm

Why is everybody saying it is unfair for Martinez to fight floyd? They both can make 154 lbs. martinez wants to become number 1, and the only way to do it is by defeating Floyd. Floyd vs guerrero is going to be another circus show again, just like what happened with Ortiz. They made ortiz look great against Berto and then he got knocked out… What a joke. If martinez is too big for floyd, then why was it ok for floyd to fight marquez?

Posted November 29, 2012 4:29 pm

Part of Mayweathers issue is that he is the FOCAL point of all money bouts… Manny would have his BIGGEST fight with Floyd as would everyone else… He is being called out by EVERYONE because it is the only way to get paid… Mayweather is about to be 36, if this guy can book another 150million in revenue before he retires thats a good look… For him that is 3 or 4 fights…He needs to fight Manny or he will not hear the end of it but these other guys are just add-on’s he should do 3 fights and retire…

Posted November 29, 2012 3:42 pm

Guerrero is a CHAMP SO Floyd is going to face 10 CHAMPS in his last 11 Fights. WOW!!!!

Posted November 29, 2012 2:59 pm

Mayweather needs to stay busy these next few years and cash in while he still can….doesn’t matter who he fights, the fans will be there…in the meantime he’ll be giving fellows boxers a chance to make a buck….like Ali did by fighting in different countries against little known fighters

Posted November 29, 2012 1:45 pm

Alvarez doen’t want to fight Floyd immediately he is waitng on the results of Cotto bout thats tells me when he has no where else to go he would fight Floyd or Floyd would be gone by the time he really demands Floyd and only Floyd.Alavarez has one fight b4 his mandatory so if Cotto wins he fights him in May after that the mandatory in september or later so now that leaves us in 2014 Mayweather will b 38 probably retired

Posted November 29, 2012 1:21 pm

Martinez will take 20% i would take 20% as well conscidering thats still way more money he made in his total boxing career Martinez is not small he walks around at 180 remember he had to lose weight 4 the chavez fight. My question is Y don’t he call out Andre ward not that he scared it all about making money, that’s the only reason the most undeserving calls out Floyd. Let’s be serious if Floyd fought Martinez @154 and win then it would b said Martinez was weight drained

but peers through 2 classes bellow….
Have you noticed that since Golovkin and Kid Chocolate made a splash, martinez is keeping a low profile?

Posted November 29, 2012 12:53 pm

Left to the devices of amateurs Mayweather would be fighting Vitali down to Viloria… He is the MOST important boxer in the sport but the guy cannot and is not obligated to fight obscure Eastern European MW’s like Golovkin when he is a guy whose next fight might be at 147… Tell Golovkin to take a trip up to 175 or Cruiser then give us a call.

I’m a Mayweather fan. I want to see him fight the best fights, not who is ranked highest.

Kingslayer, there are plenty from 140-154 that are more interesting fights than Guerrero. 1. Matthysee 2. Peterson 3. Tim Bradley 4. Canelo (like you mentioned) 4. Cotto 5. Pac

Sure, Cotto and Pac have fights coming up in the next 1-2 weeks, so let them win (ideally) and set a fight with one. Not run after a fight signing with Guerrero the week before Pac fights. Mayweather just beat Cotto, OKAY, but it was Mayweather’s most competitive fight in ages – and Cotto would roll over Guerrero.

Posted November 29, 2012 11:57 am

I agree with most posters here that Guerrero has no shot of winning this fight. I do believe he will last the 12 rounds making Floyd work for the money.

Posted November 29, 2012 11:47 am

I completely agree with every word you said man…

Posted November 29, 2012 11:42 am

Pacquiao can barely hit a 40yr old Marquez how in the %&#& would he hit the best defensive fighter if this generation? This article was a waste of my time!!

Posted November 29, 2012 11:32 am

I’m a mayweather fan but I do not wanna see him fight Guerrero. Does anyone really think this guy has a shot at beating Floyd? I don’t even think Floyd is considering this fight seriously. Schaefer just wants to show Guerrero he’s attempting to get him the fight. I mean, I really don’t think anyone out there can beat him right now but I want him to fight someone he’ll get real credit for.

Posted November 29, 2012 11:31 am

The Kingslayer

Tyler – Aside from Canelo who else is there really for Mayweather to face right now ? Martinez is a Middleweight plus he’s injured. And you can forget any fighter who’s part of the Top Rank stable. There really isn’t alot of options out there for Floyd.

Posted November 29, 2012 11:16 am

@tyler … According to the Ring magazine.. The ghost is the third best welterweight in the world.
You guys are such f@&cking haters, your gonna call somebody a b level

Posted November 29, 2012 10:42 am

Floyd should go after Sergio or Canelo at 154 because the Pac option won’t be there after Marquez is done with him…i don’t want to see Guerrero fight anybody.

Posted November 29, 2012 10:41 am

The Kingslayer, I see your point with the “top 5 welterweight” statement, BUT the issue is that NO ONE wants to see this fight. There are plenty of more intriguing fights with guys who are just as qualified. Guerrero is a B level fighter, nothing more. So, Floyd is gun-ho about fighting him, will win every single second of every round, then we wont see him fight for another year.

Posted November 29, 2012 10:31 am

The Kingslayer

Oh And the P4P King is Andre Ward

Posted November 29, 2012 9:53 am

The Kingslayer

Funny how Mayweather’s getting hated for possibly facing a top five welterweight who’s in his prime. Forget the fight with Pac it will never happen because there is huge ego’s on both sides preventing it from happening.

Posted November 29, 2012 9:52 am

judging by the amount of fighter he ducked in the last couple of years he should have his moniker changed to “the duck” … friggin clown

Posted November 29, 2012 9:46 am

Well, Guerrero – Mayweather, Jr. is a good match up… but Guerrero must be aware that Mayweather, Jr. has a habit of injecting xyclocaine, snorting and chewing PEDS every time he fights…

Guerrero should demand RBT to Mayweather, Jr., to help clean the sport…

Posted November 29, 2012 8:36 am

If Floyd ends up fighting Guerrero I am boycotting the fight. I would like to see him fight Martinez, Pacquiao, and Alvarez. I believe that Martinez is the biggest threat to Mayweather based on Martinez speed, power, and movement. Unlike Pacquiao has a far better lead right hand jab and hook; furthermore, Mayweather would not have a 3-7 inch reach advantage over Martinez. For those who say Martinez is to big, while Alvarez is not does not make sense to me. Alvarez may fight at 154, but he a fighter in his early 20’s meaning he still growing. Martinez is truly a 154 fighter at age 37 that happen to compete at 160, which mean he a small man competing with the big boys. Further, Martinez is willing to do a 80%-20% deal with Mayweather.

Posted November 29, 2012 5:10 am

If not Martinez, Pacquiao or Alvarez…retire already ! These 3 are calling you out, Floyd. Give us the fight we want…you are nothing without the fans !!!

Posted November 29, 2012 3:43 am

Bradley is promoted by Top Rank, just as unlikely to happen as Pacquiao.

Posted November 29, 2012 3:23 am

Posted November 29, 2012 3:11 am

Guerrero should fight Bradley first

Posted November 29, 2012 2:37 am
