Right PEEJ.., That’s why Floyd won 2 World Championships at 154lbs from ATG fighters Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto.

I guess that weight is just too much for him… Needs a catch-weight.

Cotto started out at 140 and he grew to a natural Jr Middleweight. Many an all time great middleweight started out smaller and if Floyd can’t really hang against the best 154 then he needs to admit it and give up his titles there.

Lfloyd isn’t a 154lb fighter. The 2 times he fought at 154 he was fighting fighters that started out much lighter. Alvarez is a natural 154lb fighter who is probably moving to 160 sooner than later. I don’t like Catchweights neither but it was Canelo that called Floyd out not the other way around so Canelo had to give up 2 pounds to make the fight. If Floyd had called out Canelo then he should be fighting Canelo at 154. But that’s now how it went down

Maybe Oscar’s cocaine quandary is because his golden goose only lays eggs when there is a perception of it being beaten by a Mexican. Now of course, Oscar loves his own raza but he also hates it when Mexicans love another Mexican more than him. In other words, Mayweather must remain undefeated unless its by Oscar, which is impossible and still blamed on Roidz and that cucaracha Freddie Roach.

Weight makes a difference, which is why Mayweather shouldn’t be fighting for 154 pound straps. He’s not a 154 pounder. He’s not going to hydrate above 154 on fight night. As far as the 152 pound catch weight fight goes, I don’t like it either. But luckily for Canelo, he’s young enough to where this isn’t going to hurt him like it would an older fighter. Come fight night, Canello will be right where he’s use to, being in the ring with a smaller fighter than himself. He’s done this so many times there’s no way he’s intimidated with little Floyd…

i agree floyd always has weak fights in which he has to have the advantage and again he has to have the advantage vs canelo. however, i disagree about this fight. canelo is his best available opponent right now. then i would say its ggg and mathyse. this is a great bout im tires of mayweathers bs though and having to seek more advantage over canelo in a damn 154 pound unification fight. floyds holding a damn 154 pound strap not a 152. this catch is bs and it was the only way canelo could get floyd in the ring. as i said we fans owe canelo thanks for his sacrifice to make this bout happen. canelo is definitelyfloyds best available opponent right now in my book.

Just for you SRedmond. Google this 1987 article about Don Laughlin. 1987, fool. He’s loads wealthier now:

“Laughlin’s Winning Bet : From Decrepit Motel to Busy Gambling Resort”

Excerpt from the article:

“Laughlin, a slightly built, white-haired version of actor James Cagney, can afford to laugh. There have been many losers, even in real estate, in his town’s and Bullhead City’s past, but the kid who dropped out of a Minnesota high school because he was making $500 a week on a few slot machines he bought then is a clear winner now.

Tucksen said, “For sure, he’s the richest individual in Laughlin. You could call him a multimillionaire.”

Laughlin owns a Rolls-Royce, which he keeps in Las Vegas (“This is no place to drive a Rolls”); a 10-passenger Cessna Citation II, which he uses to transport what he describes as the “VIP players;” a six-passenger Cessna Turbo T-310, and a helicopter.

Swapped Ranch Land

He just swapped 25,000 acres of his 61,000-acre cattle ranch near Kingman, Ariz. with the Bureau of Land Management for 5,000 acres in Bullhead City, because that land is becoming so valuable, he said.

He once turned down an offer of $95 million for The Riverside and figures river-front land is now worth $2 million an acre in Laughlin.

He has 600 head of cattle, 1,000 head of Angora goats and a lodge at his ranch for his family–three grown children and two grandchildren, friends and employees.”

You see dum-dum, he’s not make-believe at all.

There are allot of better opponents. If it wasn’t for the under card I would not buy it for Floyd vs.Canelo. With Floyd and Haymen, it does not matter who they fight because they will create a mismatch using weight, age or something and if an advantage cannot be created, they will not fight at all. Example: There is a differnce between beating Marquez at 135lb in his prime than by making him come up two weight divisions, then have Floyd come in overweight, pay the fine and then refusing to weigh in on fight night because he probably put on another 10lbs. Most experts said he looked 160lb. That’s a middleweight vs. a blown up lightweight with more speed. Casual fans wouldn’t understand. They know that and exploit it. They create an advantage like that in almost every match

Canelo will win and he will do so in a very convincing manner. People are riding tne tired theory that Saul will have to land a Sunday punch in order to secure a victory. They are basically saying his skill set won’t be sufficient to do a more comprehensive job of breaking down Mayweather. Cano will do a bit of EVERYTHING and believe me, Alvarez has a well thought out strategy. He indicated what it woukd be some weeks ago and I have no doubt that he will do just that. If n the off cha.ce he does not succeed he still comesout with valuable experience. However HE will win.

Good evening. I said it before and I will say it again. This Canelo Alvarez is READY AND FOCUSED on what HE has to do. I’m even more convinced now that he is primed to pull off in the eyes of many a Mayweather enthusiast, the improbable. All of or practically the majority of sporting media, pro boxers, so called experts are riding the Mayweather bandwagon and are loathe to pick against him. Much as rhey did with the Tyson/Douglas affair. Only a paltry few are brave enough to stand their ground and voice their support for Canelo. I sense an upset and again in a manner most people aren’t looking for. Canelo WILL WIN and it will be convincing. His demeanor speaks ymes and as I stated before, it was wishful thinking on the part of Mayweather fans to think that this kid was nervous yesterday. Far from it. Looking forward to a good fight and a victorious Vanelo. Cheers.

Boxtradamus

“@ Boxtradamus: So that (“weights don’t matter up to 20lbs”) spiel, means you suddenly accept catch-weights now?”-Nope. not suddenly. I’ve ALWAYS accepted catchweights SO go take ESB HISTORY class. I have ALWAYS SAID that weight is not the factor. SKILLS is…..as long as 2 men are within 20 lbs of each other on Fight night the BETTER man will WIN….Weight divisions are irrelevant as long as both men are within 20 lbs of each other. SKILL divisions is what’s relevant. Canelo is #9 P4P and Floyd is #1 P4P……I only criticized Pacquiao for the SKILL LEVEL of his opposition not the weight. Margarito was #0 P4P SO weight was not the factor SKILLS was…..Mosley was #0 P4P. SO weight again was not the factor. SKILLS was. Clottey was yet another #0 P4P er. SO yet again weight was not the factor YOU know the rest…….And VOILAAAAAAA Pacquiao is once again going back to his buffet of #0 P4Pers in Brandon Rios after tasting defeat vs. #8 P4P Bradely and #5 P4P Marquez….Apparently those LOSSES vs. Top 10 P4P competition didn’t taste TOO GOOD.

Posted September 13, 2013 8:18 pm

Boxtradamus

“So why isn’t canelo fighting guys 20+lbs heavier then him??”-Because the guys 20 lbs HEAVIER are LESSER opponents than the man 20 lbs LIGHTER than him. THAT’s WHY……and thats why the EXPERTS rate Floyd at #1 P4P while the guys 20 lbs heavier than Canelo are all rated LESS than that.

Alvarez is going to school tomorrow night, he’s gonna try for 3 rounds then start looking more like a “Piñata” than fighter as the blows start raining on him..He’s being we’ll compensated for his work, likely the biggest payday of his career so for a 23 year old there is no reason to feel bad..

Soooooo What Mayweather boasts about his wealth the only “insecure people” are those who become upset about another mans riches… If you are so upset with the state of the world today, poverty etc why not go out and do something about it? Floyd Mayweather is an entertainer, his brand is built off flamboyance and being loud.. If he operated like these regular boxers he would be just as BROKE instead he’d getting a check for 41.5 million with additional revenue to come… His Road to this type of income cannot be argued… It’s LEGAL and in sport no one is getting paid like this..

BTW Gonzo, I live in a little town near Laughlin, AZ which is named after gaming icon Don Laughlin. Don is one rich mofo, but he NEVER boasts about his wealth. In fact, Don even fills up his own Bentley at the local Sam’s Club gas station. I’ve seen him there several times. This guy is at least twice as wealthy as FMJ yet nowhere near as arrogantly foolish. But you know what? Insecure people always need to toot their horn. Floyd may be a fabulous boxer, but he’s also an extremely insecure little boy in a man’s body.

Posted September 11, 2013 5:29 pm

Hidalgo

“I despise people who boast about their wealth.”

Me too Gonzo. Or people who talk about themselves in third-person as Mayweather does. These are egomaniacal traits.

I was watching one of Bryant Gumbel’s shows a couple of weeks ago in which he featured surfer Kelly Slater. Slater is considered by most surfing experts and afficianados to be the best surfer of all time. Even many other world champions–past and present–hail him as the best. Anyways, during his interview, the interviewer acknowledged that Kelly was very humble even though he was considered to be the all-time surfing great, and he queried a response from Kelly on this as regards to him and other athletes. Kelly replied, “I just think it’s so embarrassing when people talk about themselves in third-person.” Kelly didn’t mention any names but I’ll bet he was referring to Mayweather and a few other elite athletes who are arrogant like him. Kelly feels that athletes should be humble and let their performances speak for themselves. Of course Slater never has been one to boast or brag, but he certainly does set the standard for how an elite, world-famous athlete should act.

BTW, Slater’s daddy’s name is not “Angel.” LMAO!

Floyd has been a great talent from day one in the pros yet no one gave a damn much until he started playing the villain then America suddenly took notice by hating him and making him the highest paid athlete, all he had to do is stay focused, work hard and be dedicated to his craft. 8ters have been so caught up they haven’t even noticed that Floyd has changed his “act “of playing a villain and speaks with more respect of his opponents, is less brash and more mature. Look up his old clips when he was starting out then check his clips after he left TR and was working on his act of increasing awareness now that he is at the top, Check him vs Cotto, Guerrero now Alvarez. Play on player.

I was just agreeing with YOU that your English sucks. Canelo has a smushed chubby stupid face, but apparently people like it. He’s ok looking, it’s mostly the hair, he has nice hair. Bye bye.

TARK

@Titopa…, “Floyd chooses opponents he KNOWS he can beat.” LMAO.

I always heard The same thing about Ali.. Holmes.. Tyson.. Leonard.. “He only chooses guys he KNOWS he can beat” … then they got their asses kicked — so I guess only God knows who beats who.

Why do people always say this???

In fact, you HAVE to fight guys with a chance to beat you if you’re going to be a World Champion for 16 years.. It’s impossible to be the highest paid athlete in the world, or be the GOAT in any sport, and stay away from outstanding competition. Floyd didn’t choose Canelo—Canelo IS THERE. He’s the most logical opponent in the world. Canelo agreed to terms. The contract were signed and sealed.

Pacquiao didn’t agree to terms—at a time when he was Floyd’s most logical opponent. That fight can still be made, and would have been made—if Pacquiao won his last fight.. For that fight to be made next year, Pacquiao only has to beat another youngster … Brandon Rios.

Too fast, too elusive, too sharp, too experienced and just TOO good. Floyd via boxing clinic.

Swedish Boxing Fan, I agree with some of your comments, however, at least so far, Floyd has been able to back up his “trash” talk. It may also be the reason why he sells so many PPV tickets, people wanting to see him lose.

You said you respect his “ring skills” and nothing else, but it takes more than ring skills to win fights. He also trains hard for each fight and that’s a trait many current fighters should emulate. It takes a lot more than skills to fight for twelve rounds and still be able to move about the ring without feeling exhausted.

I’m not saying he’s a model for younger fighters, but he’s determine, as far as I know lives a clean life and he’s willing to work hard to be the best…those are the same qualities many fighters lack these days.

One of the reasons why I never really cared for Floyd is the same reason why he’s going to win this fight. He chooses opponents he KNOWS he can beat, this fight will be NO different than all the others…he knows he can beat Canelo, and I believe he will. Floyd is going to outclass this kid.

I respect Floyd Mayweather Jr’s ring skills BUT not more then that. I disslike his way of potraying himself outside the ring. I don’t like his “f#ck you” attitude. I hate his way of desperetly trying to make himself look like the best fighter out there without ever have conqerd all major world title belts or have cleaned out a division of top fighters. I lost much respect for him when he time-after-time after-time having walked away from fighting Manny “Pac-Man” Paquiao when he still was the big dog in the league. I disslike his way of desperetly fighting for keeping his precius “0″ on his record = A undeferated record is not much worth in the end if you avoid the thretning challanges in boxing and he does that all the time. Paul Williams and Paquiao was just 2 good ones to name here. In my own oppinion, the most tallent fighter still active is old legend Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins is 48 years old, became for a 2nd time oldest champ in history of boxing and still beats the young stronger fighters, that is something Floyd Mayweather Jr only can dream to achive. Then another thing that makes me tired of him and that is his GREED. Mayweather Jr is so greedy that you just want to go away and make all people realise that and to do the same.
