IRISH AMATEUR BOXING ASSOCIATION
Chris Sekora staged a remarkable comeback to book his ticket in the 91Kg final from the 2011 National Intermediate Championships semi-finals at the National Stadium in Dublin tonight.
The St Francis BC heavyweight was 10-6 down going into the final three minutes of his clash with Andrew Hanly but pulled out all the stops in the final frame to claim a 17-15 win.
Ten of the eleven winners from tonight’s National Intermediate semi-finals were boxing out of the blue corner.
James Higgins, boxing out of the red, was the only exception. Higgins recorded a hard-fought 12-10 win over Scott Hanway in the opening bout of the session.
Gary McKenna, George Bates and James Conroy also progressed, Bates and Conroy advancing with one-points margins of victory over Ryan Peake and Anthony Upton.
McKenna impressed en route to an 18-9 decision over Paul McGrath.
Stephen Coughlan booked his ticket into the 64Kg final, a 17-9 win over Stephen Carroll doing the business for the Bray BC light-welterweight.
Mark Fitzpatrick, of the Riverstown club in Cork, recorded a very convincing 24-8 win over Ryan Flanagan. Fitzpatrick could now meet Noel Murphy in an all-Cork 67Kg final next Friday if Murphy can overcome the challenge of Paul Upton tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Christy Joyce chalked up an inside the distance win over Kyle Roche tonight, while Chris Blaney had five points to spare over Eamon Tighe.
Denis O’Donnell, with a 16-14 verdict over Roman Seredjuks, will contest next weekend’s 85Kg final where he’ll meet either Ciaran O’Griofa or European Youth silver medalist Gary Sweeney.
Michael McDonagh claimed the final win of tonight’s session with an 18-5 verdict over Colin McCabe.
The remaining semi-finals at the 2010 National Intermediate Championships will be decided tomorrow afternoon.

Ivan Morales in Stern Test on December 10th
In an unprecedented change of opponents, a much anticipated test of fire has been made for Tijuana super flyweight Ivan “Niño Maravilla” Morales (14-0, 9KOs) set for Saturday, December 10th, in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.
Ivan, the younger brother of four-time world champion in as many divisions Erik “Terrible” Morales and former super flyweight champ Diego “Pelucho” Morales, will go face to face with the experimented Roberto “Pollito” Lopez (30-21-1, 12KOs) as part of the supporting under card of “Noche de Luces en Calafia” fight card presented by Box Latino. In the main event, Pedro “Pedrin” Guevara (14-0-1, 11KOs) will defend his newly captured NABF light flyweight title versus the talented Manuel “Menny” Jimenez (11-1-1, 5KOs) in a twelve round contest. The main event will be televised live in Mexico by Televisa.
The clash between Morales and Lopez is scheduled for eight heats. Morales are conscious that the bout will not be anything easy, “It is a great challenge. He is an opponent with a lot more experience than me which will let me show a more mature Ivan Morales who is hungry.”
In an almost twenty year career, Lopez has faced tough opponents like Willie Jorrin, Paulie Ayala, Danny Romero, Enrique Jupiter, Mauricio Pastrana, Fernando Montiel and Olivier Lontchi among others.
Ivan Morales is trained by his older brother Diego in the gym founded by their father Jose “Olivaritos” Morales in the tough neighborhood of the Zona Norte near the San Diego-Tijuana border.
“We are going to destroy him, we are going to finish him,” Diego said with a win and smile. “Pelucho” held the WBO super flyweight title in the early part of the last decade. “A person that knows about boxing would say that Ivan is not ready for this type of opponent at this point in his career. We are convinced that this is an excellent test for him and a great way for him to finish off the year. We want to see what he is made of and what we are ready for next year.”
Ivan began his career late in 2009 with a TKO victory over Cristian Zavala. In 2010 the undefeated Morales fought seven times, ending four of them before the distance. With his match up against Lopez, Morales would equal last year’s number of fights but he has already stopped four of his opponents.
“I think my career has developed well,” Morales said after an intense work out. “I think every one of my opponents has taught me something and I have shown what I have learned in my fights. I have shown how much I have advanced from my first fight and I think I have the skill and hunger to be somebody. I don’t hang on to the fact that I am the brother of Erik and Diego’s, I want to achieve my goals on my own.”

Mansour of Wilmington, Delaware has a perfect mark of 15-0 with eleven knockouts and is quickly becoming one of the most talked about Heavyweights in the world has won six straight fights since a nine year hiatus.
In the six wins, five did not see the final bell and three of those foes felt the prodigious power of Mansour that they needed extra medical attention just to leave the ring.
In his last bout, Mansour stepped up the competition in a major way and scored a dominating ten round unanimous decision over former top Heavyweight contender Dominick Guinn on August 19th
With a win on Friday, Mansour will be looking to step up and take on a top ten opponent this spring.
