For lightweight Antonio DeMarco (24-2-1, 18KOs), it doesn’t really matter where his next fight will be held but never in his wildest dreams would he have expected Grand Island, Nebraska. On February 26th, DeMarco of Tijuana, MX, will challenge fellow countryman Reyes Sanchez (20-3-1, 11KOs) of Mexico City, MX, for the WBC Silver lightweight title in the main event of “Rumble in the Heartland”. The eight fight night will be held at the Heartland Events Center. The fight will be televised by Showtime and presented by Gary Shaw Promotions..
“I feel very lucky and motivated to be part of the first championship fight in Nebraska,” the 24-year-old DeMarco stated recently. “I felt great deal of satisfaction when I got the news. We hope that the fight ends with good results for us so that we can go back and fight there again.”
DeMarco has been in a gym for the better part of the last three months even training through the holidays. DeMarco is doing everything to reach February 26th in optimal fighting condition.
“I feel everything has been going as planned,” DeMarco explained. “We are dropping the weight comfortably and we are getting down to 3-4 pounds over contracted weight where we plan to do our most intense work. Come fight night, we will be at more than 110%.”

Texan Felipe Córdova is the new rival for super bantamweight contender Jonathan Oquendo next January 22 for the Worl Boxing Organization (WBO) 122 lbs NABO title in a carde to be held in the Correctional Complex 1072 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, in a PR Best Boxing Promotions presentation to be televised on Pay Per View.
Córdova (10-2, 4 KOs in his Fight Fax record) replaced mexican Cuauhtemoc Vargas (15-4, 10 KOs), who had some problemas with his visa and won’t be Oquendo’s foe.
In the card, also will fight heavyweight prospect Carlos Negrón (10-0, 7 KOs) and bantamweight prospect McJoe Arroyo (6-0, 3 KOs) in six rounds bouts against fighters to be announced. Alson in action, prisoners Rafael “Lobito” Sierra (5-5-1, 2 KOs), Luis Díaz (1-0, 1KO) and debutante Frank Santos.
Biosse named New England’s top prospect in ‘10
Providence native won all four fights, including ESPN thriller
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Jan. 9, 2011) – Super middleweight Vladine Biosse (9-0, 4 KOs) of Providence, R.I., burst onto the scene in 2010, and the boxing community is beginning to take notice.
The Cape Verdean boxer, who will headline Jimmy Burchfield’s upcoming Feb. 4 boxing event at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., was recently named New England’s Prospect of the Year for 2010 by 8CountNews.com.
Signed by Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc., in 2009, Biosse won all four of his fights last year after missing six months with a broken hand (sustained in a Nov. 20, 2009 knockout win over Jeffrey Osborne), including a classic, eight-round victory over Lowell, Mass., native “Irish” Joey McCreedy for the New England Super Middleweight Title in front of 42 million homes on ESPN2.
“No fighter brought more to the table in 2010 than Vladine Biosse,” Burchfield said. “Since we signed him nearly two years ago, Vladine has grown into one of the most well-rounded fighters in the super middleweight division. His athleticism is what sets him apart from other up-and-comers in this sport. Vladine has a tremendous background as a track-and-field star at Hope High School in Rhode Island – one of the toughest schools around – and a starting defensive back for the University of Rhode Island, which is no small feat.

The former University of Rhode Island football standout began the year with a unanimous decision victory over Woonsocket, R.I., native Joe Gardner in a four-round bout on May 7 at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, R.I., improving his record to 6-0. From there, he stepped up to face his toughest challenge, battling McCreedy in the eight-round co-feature of CES’ “Let Freedom Ring” show on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” at Twin River.
McCreedy had more experience (11 wins entering the bout), particularly in eight-round fights, but Biosse dominated from start to finish, earning a 79-73, 79-73, 78-74 victory in addition to unilateral praise from ESPN commentators Teddy Atlas and Joe Tessitore, who marveled at Biosse’s savvy and explosiveness.
Biosse continued to climb the ladder in the super middleweight division following his win over McCreedy, stepping up to fight Ibahiem King – a finalist in the 2008 USA Boxing Championships in Colorado – in the main event of CES’ “Labor Daze” show on Sept. 3 at Twin River. Headlining a professional fight card for the first time in his career, Biosse faced tremendous adversity after getting knocked down in the fourth round, but he bounced back to drop King twice in the sixth and then swept the final two rounds to secure a 77-73, 77-73, 77-72 unanimous decision victory.
Less than a month later, Biosse closed 2010 with a six-round, unanimous decision victory over veteran Ariel Espinal in his Foxwoods Casino debut. Biosse’s upcoming eight-round bout against Samson Onyango of Nairobi, Kenya, might be his toughest to date; Onyango is 20-7 with 13 knockouts – the most prolific power-puncher Biosse has faced.
