Universum Boxing News: Susi Kentikian vs Elena Reid; Brähmer-Kanfouah; Sturm-Sato

Female WBA / WIBF world flyweight champion Susi Kentikian (23-0, 16 KOs) returns to action in front of her hometown crowd. In a very attractive matchup on March 20th at the „ProSieben Fight Night“ at the famous Sporthalle in Hamburg, Germany the “Killer Queen” will defend her WIBF and WBA belts against Elena Reid. The experienced American is best known for her two grueling bouts with female ring legend Regina Halmich. ProSieben will broadcast the fight live from 10:15 pm..

Regina Halmich is joined by Jan Stecker and they will be at ringside commentating on the bout.

Kentikian, arguably the world’s best pound-for-pound female boxer, and Reid have already signed the contratcs. Elena “Baby Doll” Reid is well known to the German boxing fans when she battled Regina Halmich twice. In their first bout in november 2004 Reid claimed a controversial draw. In their rematch in 2005 Halmich had to give her best to win on points this time against the powerful and lively US girl Elena Reid.

Susi Kentikian, who showed great fights in the past, will have to demonstrate her excellent skills. Unbeaten in her 23 fights with 16 coming by KO, the reigning world champion had tough battles against Hagar Finer Shmoulefeld und Anastasia Toktaulova which she has mastered superbly.

In the co-feature the unbeaten heavyweight Sebastian Köber of the spotlight boxing stable faces the well known former heavyweight title challenger Willi “de Ox“ Fischer.
Köber recently won a tough challenge against stablemate Dieter Roth in Halle/Saale by a last minute knockout. Willi „de Ox“ Fischer has won 36 out of his 43 fights (23 by KO). He turned pro in 1993 and he had lost his only world title fight in 1998 against the at that time British world champion Herbie Hide in England.

Jürgen Brähmer vs Frenchman Rachid Kanfouah

Dresden is once again the venue for a „Universum Champions Night“. On March 7th 2009 fighting action will be presented from the Freiberger Arena in including five title bouts. Now in addition to the European light heavyweight clash between Jürgen Brähmer and Frenchman Rachid Kanfouah, the former European light heavyweight champion Thomas Ulrich (31-4-0 (21)) will return to action in Dresden.

The 33 year old from Berlin fights against the tough Argentinean Mariano Nicolas Plotinsky (14-3-0 (7)) for the vacant WBO Intercontinental light heavyweight title. After successful fights in WBO title bouts in 2000 and 2007 he wants to secure the belt for a third time. After his defeat in the fight for the Europen crowd against Yuri Barashian in February 2008 and a longer injury break, Thomas Ulrich is now back and highly motivated to return to action and demonstrate his boxing skills and fighting spirit.

Also seeing action in Dresden are the unbeaten light heavyweight Aleksy Kuziemski (16-0, 3 KOs), currently #6 WBA and #2 WBO rated, and fellow unbeaten Armin Dollinger (19-0, 8 KOs). Both risking their unbeaten status in an attractive showdown for the EBA-Europa title. Armin Dollinger, also known as the „Hirschenwirt“ of Munich, remains unbeaten and extended his winning streak by defeating Kai Kurzawa by knockout in round 2 in his last bout. He will certainly be a tough challenge for Kuziemski.

Jürgen Brähmer back in the ring – the fight for the Euro title against Frenchman Rachid Kanfouah

In the main event of this „Universum Champions Night“ light heavyweight Jürgen Brähmer (31-2, 25 KOs) will take on Frenchman Rachid Kanfouah (29-6, 23 KOs) for the vacant European title. In his last bout in November, Brähmer dropped a twelve round decision in a world title bid against WBA champion Hugo Hernan Garay. He was named the official contender for the vacant EBU light heavyweight title so he now faces the French champion Kanfouah in order to become European champion for the first time.

Rachid Kanfouah is known to the German boxing fans in a thrilling fight back in January 2007 in Halle / Saale aganist Thomas Ulrich. He had dominated the fight but tooked many hard punches in round 10 before being knockdown and losing by TKO.

The Rematch: WIBF/GBU world champion Alesia Graf faces Magdalena Dahlen

In the co-feature, WIBF/GBU female super bantamweight champion Alesia Graf will face stablemate Magdalena Dahlen in an interesting rematch. After their first meeting on November 22 2008 in Rostock the Universum world champion Alesia Graf (22-1-0 (9)) of Stuttgart and the spotlight fighter Magdalena Dahlen (9-1-0 (3)) of Solingen will meet once again. Their first battle of these two German fighters for the WIBF and GBU belts showed thrilling actions and great technical skills. It was certainly a demonstration for female boxing.

First title for Zsolt Bedak: Franklin „Destroyer“ Teran is his opponent for the WBO-Europa featherweight title

With the Hungarian Bedak brothers Zsolt and Pal of the spotlight boxing team, two fighters of the lower weight divison but with great punching power will step into the ring.

Zsolt Bedak (12-0-0 (3)), the older brother, in having his first title bout at junior featherweight in his 13 pro fight. His opponent Franklin Teran (27-2-0 (21)), a fighter based in Spain but born in Columbia, will be a tough challenger with a dangerous fighting record of 21 KO wins. Also known by his fighting name „the Destroyer“, Teran will be a hard nut to crack for Zsolt Bedak in a fight for the WBO-Europa title. The boxing fans can look forward to a fast and dynamic battle in this weight division.

His younger brother flyweight Pal „Pimpa“ Bedak (2-0-0 (2)), will have his third fight in Dresden and he surely will demonstrate his punching power and spectacular fighting style that impressed the crowd in the last two fights.

In another light heavyweight encounter, undefeated Igor Michalkin (7-0, 6 KOs) will face an opponent to be named.

Felix Sturm will defend his title in Krefeld against his challenger Koji Sato of Japan

Another „Universum Champions Night“ with fantastic boxing fights will be staged at the KönigPALAST in Krefeld. After a great event in March 2008, boxing action returns to city by the Lower Rhine.

In the focus of the second „Universum Champions Night“ in Krefeld is the title defence of WBA world champion Felix Sturm (31-2-1, 13 KO) against unbeaten Koji Sato from Japan. The Universum middleweight champion is coming off a brilliant performance against mandatory challenger Sebastian “Hurricane” Sylvester in at the sold out König-Pilsener-Arena in Oberhausen in November 2008. In the first all german encounter in over eight years the superior boxing skills, the quickness and counter punching of the reigning WBA champ Sturm proved to be too much for the challenger as he totally outclassed and dominated Sylvester.

His challenger now, the unbeaten Japanese Koji Sato (14-0-0, 13 KO), fights for the first time in Europe. The 28 year old fromTokyo is the current OPBF middleweight champion (Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation) and is ranked WBC #6 and WBA #14. As a result of his record of 13 knockout wins in his 14 fights, Koji Sato has an impressive KO quote of 92,8 %.
