Kevin Johnson vs. Damian Wills Set for a Crossroads Collision Aug. 3

July 16, 2007 (New York) –Star Boxing in association with the Atlanta KO Kings is proud to announce that on August 3rd world-rated Heavyweight contender Kevin “The Great American Hope” Johnson (15-0-1, 6KO’s) will clash with Damian “Bolo” Wills (22-1-1, 16KO’s) in a 10-round special attraction at the Far West Rodeo in Doraville, Georgia. This event will also be televised on SHOWTIME’S popular boxing series ShoBox: The New Generation.

“ On August 3rd, Kevin Johnson—with his joltin’ jab, slick boxing, and smooth talking—will inject some much needed excitement into the heavyweight division” says Star Boxing CEO, Joseph DeGuardia. “But the hard punching Wills is no pushover. Johnson and Wills understand what’s at stake, and are prepared to meet the challenge head-on”

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, July 17th at 10:00 am/EST and can be purchased at http://www.ticketalternative.com or by calling 1-877-725-8849. Tickets are priced at $35, $50, $100 and $125 for Ringside w/ table seating. A table of 8 is $1000.

The “ShoBox” telecast will air live at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

Unlike the current batch of heavyweights, Johnson doesn’t have an extensive amateur career—so as a pro he’s been matched tough. In only his fourth pro fight it was “sink or swim” when he took on Olympian and Russian amateur sensation Timor Ibragimov, a fighter with a 13-0 pro record. Johnson shined as he battled Ibragimov to a stale mate. The media consensus was that Johnson had pulled out a decision.

Disappointed, but undeterred, the undefeated Johnson has continued to impress with victories over veteran Robert Wiggins, gatekeeper Robert Hawkins, and the solid Daniel Bispo. In his last bout, he dominated the game Robert Guerrero over 8-rounds. Considered the best hope to Americanize the Heavyweight Championship, an impressive victory over Wills could setup a world title shot.

Wills, whose fights have aired on ESPN and Pay-Per-View, has squared off against some of the divisions finest including Sedrick Fields, Yanqui Diaz, Cisse Saliff, and Chris Arreola. In 24 professional bouts Wills has displayed some fierce punching power, recording a remarkable 12 one round KOs, 16 total KO’s, and his average fight lasting only 3.8 rounds per fight. In his last outing Wills’ displayed his ferocious power by knocking out Clarence Goins in the first round. With only a single loss on his record, a victory over Johnson will put Wills back into contender status.

Gets your tickets early, the Johnson-Wills fight is sure to be Georgia’s hottest event of the year!

The Far West Rodeo is located at 6616 New Peachtree Road – Doraville, Georgia. Doors open at 6:45 pm and the first fight starts at 7:15 pm.
