08.06.04 – Two weeks after the world premiere, the first weekly internet broadcast boxing series, presented by CMXsports and promoted by Guilty Boxing – “CMX Boxeo de Campeones” – returns This Friday! June 11, from Las Pulgas in Tijuana, Mexico. NBA featherweight champion MARTIN “EL BROCHAS” HONORIO looks to keep his winning streak hot when he takes on former Pacific featherweight champion SERGIO SANCHEZ in the 10-round main event rumble, a rematch of their classic brawl from November 2003. The bout will headline an all-action seven-bout card.
Boxing fans from around the world can catch all the action via a live internet stream, and access the replay, at www.cmxsports.com for a monthly subscription fee of just $4.95. The series airs every Friday night, beginning at 11 P.M. ET / 8 P.M. PT. Subscribers will also be able to access archived fight footage and get behind-the-scenes interviews, previews and articles. The broadcasts will be available in English and Spanish.
“The Colonel” Bob Sheridan, a veteran of more than 750 world title fight broadcasts, will be handling the English broadcasts. The Spanish broadcast team will feature former NFL All-Pro kicker and veteran sports announcer Benny Ricardo and former five-time world champion Manuel Medina, doing the blow-by-blow and color, respectively. Internationally renowned broadcaster and actress Maria Felipe will provide the in-ring post-fight interviews and be the ring announcer. Boxing historian Bert Randolph Sugar, former editor of The Ring and Boxing Illustrated, and the author of more than 50 books, has signed on as CMXsports Senior Boxing Analyst, providing weekly columns to the CMXsports website and commentary to the broadcasts.
Honorio, 15-2 (10 KOs), captured the vacant NBA featherweight title when he stopped Sanchez in the 10th round of their all-action fight last November in Las Vegas, NV. The title victory extended Honorio’s winning streak to five. Highlights of the streak include a first-round knockout of former WBC Continental Americas champion Cristobal Cruz, 22-3 (13 KOs), and a unanimous decision over John Nolasco, 11-2-3 (4 KOs). A fan-favorite among his countrymen, tonight’s fight marks the Mexicam homecoming for “El Brochas” — his first in his native Mexico in 19 months.
Sanchez, 15-14-5, from Tijuana, Mexico, captured the Pacific featherweight title in 1999, winning a 12-round decision over Juan Ruiz. He successfully defended the title three times — two by knockout. He returns to the ring with revenge in his heart, fresh from a first-round knockout victory of Rafael Urias in Tijuana earlier this year. Sanchez is the older brother of former Mexican super lightweight and WBC Continental Americas welterweight champion Juan Carlos Sanchez.
