04.06.04 – By Keith Terceira: The latest upheaval in the heavyweight division may be the return of Jimmy Thunder (35-14-3) from New Zealand. Thunder is reportedly in tremendous shape both mentally and physically. Last nights report is that Jimmy is weighing in at 229 and knocking heads in the gym. Look for his return to the ring sometime this month or early next month.
Jimmy has a long list of knockouts and victories on his resume that impresses all boxing fans. Similar issues that derailed John Ruiz’s career affected Thunder as well but those have been resolved. If you recall Thunder was to have fought Golota on HBO back in the day and his pull out of the fight created one of the classic Golota tirades. Hopefully HBO will contact Thunder and we will finally see the Samoan and Golota a decade later.
Also returning to action in the heavyweight ranks are Robert Hawkins (16-2), Jean-Francois Bergeron (19-0) and Najee Shaheed (18-5-2). These four fighters will help bolster a weak division. Bergeron had been out of action since his one armed win, due to a pinched nerve in his neck, shoulder and elbow issues.
I’ve been a little busy of late matchmaking for KEA Boxing out of New Jersey. We have a June 25th fight card scheduled at the Hanover Marriott in Whippany, New Jersey. It should prove to be an interesting and entertaining evening with the following lineup having been set-up.
Ross “The Boss” Thompson (26-9-2) will face (16-10-2) Rico Cason of Nashville in the ten round main event. Thompson who lost a decision to an twain Echols in a ten rounder on the Pacquiao-Marquez under card has renewed vigor in the sport and looks to come in at 162 on his way back to the 154 division.
Dennis Sharpe 17-0-1, Victor Paz 5-0, Said Ouali 14-1, and Bobby Rooney 2-0, are also scheduled to round out some of New Jersey and New York’s finest talent.
Making her pro debut at 120-124 is Wendy LaMotta the former amateur champion in the state.
I am a little concerned about the news that Hopkins may not fight this weekend because it may nix what I thought to be the fight of the year. Let’s hope things get back on track.
As if Ebo Elder wasn’t dangerous enough, he has gone and had surgery on his nose that allows him to breathe even better than before. The whirlwind 135 ponder shocked fans by upsetting Oscar Diaz on Espn ending the undefeated roll Diaz had enjoyed. Elder has commented that he is amazed how much better he can breath now. This Xtreme Machine could not breathe properly and still managed to build a 19-1 record, watch out now.
Well I don’t comment much on politics but last evening I was watching the news and say that we taxpayers just gave 300 million to Egypt for the damage that the unrest in Iraq has done to the region, or some such nonsense.
I will try and stay civil but “What the F***K!” UBL’s right hand man is an Egyptian doctor is he not. That country should be paying the US for causing the unrest instead of taxpayers paying them. I find it very confusing how our tax dollars continuously get used to bolster the economies of other nations as our skilled workers continue to be forced out of jobs.
Another little blurb I say today was the Wal-Mart shareholders meeting. Let me tell you why I dislike Wally World. If you are old enough to remember the 70’s and 80’s then you can remember the “Great American Scam” that Wal-Mart pulled on the country with it’s patriotic advertising of it’s products being made in the USA. Well once this company made it to the top in rolled the made anywhere but the USA product line. Do the world a favor and shop anywhere but Wal-Mart.
