*Mac Gets Cruz Missile*

04.06.04 – Dynamite fisted Welshman ENZO MACCARINELLI has promised an explosive fight when he makes the fourth defence of his WBU World Cruiserweight title against Chilean hitter Carlos Cruzat. Big Mac, who has 13 KO’s in 18 fights, goes head on with the ‘Cruz’ missile on July 3 at the Newport Sports Centre in what is expected to be a short and brutal affair.

Like Maccarinelli, Cruzat from Santiago, carries a massive punch. Out of his 35 fights, he has won 30 and flattened 22 and 14 have been inside four rounds.

“I love facing opponents who want to stand and fight and Cruzat will do just that,” said the Swansea man.

“Looking at his fight record he certainly carries a wallop in both hand and as everybody knows I carry a bit of punch myself. So when two big punchers get together in the ring anything can happen. One things for sure, I will be the one standing at the end,”

The 2002 Boxing Writers Best Young Boxer of the Year continued, “I don’t intestinally go in to knock opponents out it just happens. I like to box smart but when the opportunity or opening presents itself I take it straight away and I know I’ve got the power to stop them,”

The 23-year-old last fought in February when he stopped tough Londoner Garry Delaney in eight rounds despite injuring his hand in the opening round. Until then, the longest Maccarinelli had gone was four rounds.

“I’m just looking forward to getting back into the ring again and taking care of business swiftly. I went eight rounds with Garry Delaney in February which was good for experience and stamina but I want to keep it short and sweet against Cruzat so I will looking to end things early.” Finished Maccarinelli.

Also featuring on the card is Newbridge Super-Featherweight GAVIN REES, 2002 Commonwealth Games Champion JAMIE ARTHUR, Pontypool welterweight TONY DOHERTY, Mountain Ash light-heavyweight NATHAN KING, Abercynon Welterweight TAZ JONES and the professional debut of Newport light-welterweight BARRIE JONES.
