Ryan Burnett Inspired By Carl Frampton

P1020209RYAN BURNETT says he’s going to follow the blueprint set by fellow Belfast-native Carl Frampton in his attempts to get to the top.

The pair trained together under the legendary Gerry Storey at the Holy Family Golden Gloves Boxing Club as amateurs and have remained firm friends.

Frampton now sits on the verge of world title shot despite having only 16 pro fights, and Burnett sees no reason why he can’t follow The Jackal’s lead.

“Carl Frampton is a big inspiration to me because I used to train with him and I’ve seen how he’s got so far so quickly,” Ryan, 21, said.

Mayweather-Canelo: Can Saul beat Mayweather without knocking him out?

canelo112There’s a great deal of mystery that surrounds the September 14th fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) and WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) such as whether or not Mayweather Jr. will be able to handle Canelo’s power and whether Canelo will run out of gas like he did against Austin Trout.

However, I see the fight as basically coming down to this: If Canelo doesn’t KO Mayweather then he’s going to lose the fight; it’s as simple as that. Canelo absolutely 100 percent needs a knockout in this fight for him to win because he’s not going to be able to out-box a fighter like Floyd Mayweather Jr. for 12 rounds.

Have Gloves Will Provide Excitement! The Ten Best Value-For-Money Fighters Today – And Their Chances Of Going Into The Hall Of Fame

khan222Fight fans these days don’t often get guaranteed excitement/value for money; not even if they pony up some serious dough. Too many times, a hardworking fan has parted with something like £20 in the U.K or $55 in the U.S, only to be left feeling disappointed. Make no mistake, the Pay-Per-View industry has proved to be a serious gamble on many occasions.

But the following fighters – in the opinion of this writer, anyway – ALWAYS give fans value for money and never leave them feeling aggrieved after having paid so as to view.

Want almost certain guaranteed bang for your buck (as the saying goes), or punches for your pound? Then watch these guys fight!

Why We Don’t Love Floyd Mayweather

003MayweathervictoryIMG_1590Isn’t it obvious? It is to me. It’s at the heart of his verbal bout with Brian Kenny. It boils over during his quarrel with Larry Merchant. Every dollar bill hurled at a camera lens, and every no-apologies, f%*@-you, contrived exhibition of brash bravado is coated in one non-sugar (Ray) harsh truth …

Floyd Mayweather wants your respect. Desperately.

He’s crying out for it. Lashing out. In the ring and out, with sharp jabs or barbed insults. He’s fighting for it.

But he has our respect, you might say. No. Floyd Mayweather is the greatest boxer of our time. That is not said out of respect, but fact. Indisputable. Like his record.

Left-Hook Lounge: Mikey Garcia, Malignaggi/Broner, & A Look at Puerto Rico’s Struggling Talent

lopez543Cristian G. (Coral Gables, FL): Can you give your thoughts on Mikey Garcia’s performance and discuss whether or not you think it’s time for us to start putting Mikey Garcia in the P4P debate?

Vivek W. (ESB): I think Garcia has consistently given us the same product, time and time again. He’s not fundamental in the sense of the Mayweather’s, Ward’s, etc, of the world; but he has totally given life to the notion that Mexican warriors, under the right tutelage, are far better than the stalk-til-they-can’t-walk variety. He has some of the best shot selection I’ve seen anywhere in the sport. He places his punches properly, and they all come with vicious intentions. I absolutely love what I see, and as a future star of the sport, I love having him on the scene, because you don’t have to guess what you’re gonna get when the bell rings.

Broner-Malignaggi square off this Saturday, June 22nd in Brooklyn, New York

broner45233Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) will get a chance to prove that he’s as good as he says he is this Saturday night, June 22nd against WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Broner sees a victory as inevitable and he had better be right because a loss for him in this fight would be a crushing blow to his dreams of being the billion dollar earner before he retires.

Broner wants to transition to being a pay per view star, but he’s going to need to blast through Malignaggi and then start facing some of the best fighters at that weight class if he wants to have any chance of realizing his dream.

Mikey Garcia could face Rocky Martinez next

garcia55Mikey Garcia’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank says he’s thinking about maybe putting him in with WBO super featherweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez (27-1-2, 16 KO’s) in what would be Mikey’s first fight at 130 lbs. It’s a good fight for Arum because it’s a fight that he can sell due to Martinez having a large Puerto Rican fan base and Mikey having a large and still growing Mexican fan base. It’s a good fight for that reason, but it’s not the best fight Arum could make as far as a competitive match-up because Martinez is barely hanging onto his WBO title as it is against the guys he’s been facing.

Arum said in an interview with esnewsreporting.com “I think another Puerto Rican, maybe Rocky Martinez.”

Can Canelo beat Mayweather fighting like he did against Trout?

canelo454WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) isn’t telling anyone what he plans on doing to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) on September 14th, but if it’s anything like how Canelo beat his last opponent former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout last April, then I think Canelo is going to have to come up with a new plan on the drawing board because the Canelo that fought that fight loses to Mayweather.

If you watched Canelo beat Trout, you’ll notice that Canelo incredibly economical with his punches in every round of the fight.

Rafael: Juanma is shot now; he’s a shell

lopez443Dan Rafael of ESPN thinks former two division world champion Juan Manuel Lopez (33-3, 30 KO’s) is over-the-hill and not the same fighter he once was following his 4th round TKO loss to Mikey Garcia (32-0, 27 KO’s) last Saturday night at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Juanma was knocked down two times in the process of getting stopped by the 25-year-old Mikey.

Rafael said on his twitter “Juanma has been as exciting as anyone in recent years, but the wars took their toll. He’s all shot now. That is obvious. He’s a shell…amazing that at one time Lopez-Gamboa was really a hot fight, until [Bob] Arum over-marinated it.”
