Robert Uzzell: I can’t tell you the comments I’ve read on Twitter, Facebook, and other boxing webpages crucifying Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. A catchweight, lineal middleweight title fight (155 pounds) has Canelo stepping into the ring to defend against Amir “King” Khan. Fans are furious at Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) for “cherry-picking” a much smaller Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) who has only fought at welterweight twice. They say this is a complete mismatch and an easy win for Canelo. ‘NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND!’ (in my Lee Corso voice).

He’s undefeated. He’s fought big names such as Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez, Ruslan Provodnikov, Joel Cassamayor, Devon Alexander, Lamont Peterson, Nate Campbell, Kendall Holt, and Junior Witter. Guess what? He hasn’t given that “0” up in the loss column yet. There’s something about this kid that just won’t take no for an answer. Desert Storm is an appropriate nickname for Bradley, not just because of fights like his war with Provodnikov- but his sheer will to go out and protect his “0”, by not going out to protect his “0”. You follow me? None of the names mentioned above are a walk in the park. For a guy with little power, he doesn’t fight like it. Witness how he dogged Devon Alexander and basically took his heart and made him quit. Timmy has earned his way to Top 3 status Pound 4 Pound in my book.
Why me?
I’ve seen Gennady Golovkin fight about 6 times. Each time I’ve watched him on television (on 4 of the 6 occasions), Golovkin has been spectacular. I go to see this guy fight live twice, and while the results were great for Golovkin, I feel like I got the short end of the stick. WHY ME?
Let me explain…
The first fight I saw on television was Golovkin vs. Mikhail Makarov. Gennady pretty much took Makarov’s heart in this fight and won in the second round. A straight right dropped Makarov in the second. The punch was hard and Makarov backed up and took a knee. He got up and went on the attack. Gennady took his time and threw another well-placed right hand and Makarov went down and the fight was over. Makarov got up and kept wiping his face as if he was making sure his nose was still attached. KO-2
