Eddie Hearn: “I Rate Keith Thurman, But Kell Brook’s A Better Fighter”

This weekend, IBF 147 lb champion Kell Brook is set to make an announcement regarding his next title defence, with the mooted September 12th date against American brawler Brandon Rios now looking to be in serious jeopardy.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has spoken to iFLtv to suggest it’s now likely that Brook will box in October, and that Rios is unlikely to be the man in the opposite corner, insisting the American’s team don’t want the fight.

“Kell’s been rushed back into camp after the Frankie Gavin fight and the Rios fight is stalling. It’s stalling over a number of reasons, and I don’t think they fancy the fight. I think they know how good Kell Brook is.”

The International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame 2015 Induction Ceremony

The International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame [IWBHF] induction ceremony, presented in large part by the World Boxing Council [WBC], took place in Ft. Lauderdale, FL Saturday, July 11, 2015.

The inductees walked the red carpet before the event, with inductee Laila Ali drawing the biggest crowd. To put it lightly, Ali came into boxing with very large shoes to fill. She lived up to the famous Ali name by earning 24 wins without a loss, including 21 KOs.

Noticeably absent was fellow 2015 inductee Ann Wolfe. Wolfe has recently found renewed fame with the viral popularity of her knockout of Vonda Ward and for her work training fighters, most notably James Kirkland. Event administrators indicated that Wolfe simply did not board her plane and gave no notice or cause. The reason for her absence is still unknown.

Kell Brook Backs Terry Flanagan / Set To Announce Opponent This Weekend

Following his victory over American Jose Zepeda on Saturday, that saw Manchester’s Terry Flanagan become the first Englishman to win a lightweight world championship, Sheffield’s IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook has spoken out to iFLtv to congratulate him, as well as to promise his own announcement regarding an opponent is imminent.

Brook, who was assisted by Flanagan in the run-up to February’s destruction of Romanian Jo Jo Dan, said of the Manchester fighter, whose win came via Zepeda dislocating his shoulder in the 2nd;

“I’m over the moon for the kid. He were helping me out for the Jo Jo Dan fight. Most of my sparring partners come for a day or two, then we don’t see owt of them. But with Terry it was brilliant work what we done together.”

Carl Frampton: Still Keen On Quigg Fight / Believes He Is The ‘A’ Side

One of the most sought after fights for the fans, especially in the UK, is the clash between Northern Ireland’s IBF super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton and Bury native and WBA (reg) 122 lb champion Scott Quigg.

Thurman: ‘I Felt Like Mayweather Against Mosley’

It would seem that in many corners of the boxing press, people are turning on Florida’s Keith Thurman following his victory Saturday night over veteran southpaw Luis Collazo. Some of the very same people who believed him to be the 2nd coming are now seemingly changing their mind after witnessing “One Time” overcome a scare at the end of the 5th round, that saw the wind knocked out of his sails from a big shot to the body – with Collazo’s assault only halted by the bell.

It was proof of Thurman once again overcoming adversity in a fight – as he did back in March against Robert Guerrero, fighting on and winning with a nasty head injury. On Saturday he did incredibly well to stay on his feet.

Mosley picks Malignaggi to beat Danny Garcia

Sugar Shane Mosley thinks former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (33-6, 7 KOs) will come out on top in his fight next month against unbeaten Danny Garcia (30-0, 17 KOs) on August 1st at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Garcia, 27, is the favorite to win the fight though based on his superior punching power, youth and the fact that he’s unbeaten. Garcia has beaten some tough fighters recently in Lamont Peterson and Lucas Matthysse, both of which would likely be favored to beat Malignaggi if they were to fight.

The only way Mosley is going to be correct with his prediction of Malignaggi beating Garcia is if Malignaggi is able to develop his punching power enough to hurt Garcia. I don’t think that’s possible though. Malignaggi has never been a big puncher even when he fought in the 140 pound division. At 34, he’s probably not going to be any stronger than he was in the past.

This fight is very important for Chavez Jr. because he lost his last fight in April to Andrzej Fonfara by a 9th round knockout, and he can ill afford to lose another fight.

Chavez Jr. was supposed to win that fight in the eyes of a lot of boxing fans, but he wasn’t even competitive with the Polish light heavyweight. It was a slaughter from the word go. Chavez Jr. later blamed the loss on his poor conditioning and Fonfara being too big and strong for him, but it seemed more of a case of Chavez Jr. not having the right skills for the job.

Thurman wants Amir Khan, willing to fight him in UK

After being compared in an unfavorable way to Amir Khan in how he did in beating Luis Collazo last year, WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 Kos) says he’s ready to fight Khan next if he’s interested in fighting, and he’ll travel to the UK to fight Khan at Wembley Stadium in London if he’s willing to take the fight.

Thurman, 26, has taking a lot of heat from boxing fans due to the way he looked against Collazo last Saturday night in beating him by a harder than expected 8th round TKO at the USF Sundome Arena in Tampa, Florida. To be sure, Thurman got the victory, but he also was hurt by Collazo in the 5th, and he ran from the 34-year-old fighter through most of.
