Roy Jones Jr: Training Fedor Chudinov Ahead of Buglioni Clash in London

As he continues to fight on at 46, it would seem that future Hall of Fame Inductee Roy Jones Jr has again dipped his finger into training, this time helping to prepare Russian WBA (reg) champion Fedor Chudinov for his September 26th maiden defence against Frank Buglioni in London.

After a brief flirtation training welterweight contender Jessie Vargas recently, Jones, who boxes in England himself on September 12th, has turned his attention to the Eastern European fighter, perhaps owing in part to his close relationship with Chudinov’s promoter Vlad Hrunov.

Josh Warrington: Ready for Toughest Test Tonight Against Joel Brunker

Britain’s insanely popular featherweight contender Josh Warrington (21-0, 4ko) goes to battle in Leeds tonight in a defence of the Commonwealth title, against Australia’s Joel Brunker, in what will represent the toughest test of the Yorkshireman’s career to date.

The relatively intriguing headline fight at the First Direct Arena, is carrying an otherwise average-at-best card, and Warrington will need to be at his very best if he is to prevail against the dangerous former Olympian, whose sole blemish is a stoppage loss to current IBF 126lb champion, Lee Selby, 10 months ago.

Kell Brook: Blame Amir Khan for Not Giving What the Fans Want / Khan vs Provodnikov Speculation

IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, currently being met with an unenthusiastic reception to his October 24th clash with Argentina’s Diego Chaves, has hit out at bitter divisional rival Amir Khan, once again blaming the Bolton man for being the reason behind their bout not happening, insisting that if it doesn’t come together next year, then it probably never will.

Fans angry at being promised the big names for Brook by promoter Eddie Hearn, were not expecting Khan to step up next, as he had already stated he believed Brook needs to fight bigger names, although this fight with Chaves – reasonably high risk, for very little reward/credit – is hardly going to set the world alight in that respect, and do little to entice Khan in, as the Argie is a relative unknown outside of the hardcore fans in the UK.

George Groves: Hitting Back at the Critics Ahead of Badou Jack Fight

Ahead of his crunch challenge to WBC super-middleweight champion Badou Jack, that takes place on September 12th’s Mayweather/Berto undercard, Britain’s “St.” George Groves has spoken out to dispel any myths regarding his 12 round fitness, as well as to counter those people seeking to attribute any perceived dip in form to his hook-up with trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick.

Groves, a former student of noted tactician Adam Booth, whom he left shortly before the 1st Carl Froch fight, is training up at Abel Sanchez’s “Summit” Facility in Big Bear, California – basecamp of Kazakh middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin – to prepare properly for the fight with Jack, and rejects outright any notion his fitness is a problem.

Devon Alexander & Lee Selby Both on October 14th PBC on ESPN Bill

Former two division champ and gay marriage advocate, (only joking!) Devon Alexander (26-3, 14ko), will return to the ring against 2nd tier Mexican Aaron Martinez (19-4-1, 4ko), on an Oct 14th PBC on ESPN bill that is to also feature new IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby (21-1, 8ko) defending against Mexican veteran Fernando Montiel (54-4-2, 39ko).

Alexander will be returning for what is ostensibly a confidence builder, which follows his shutout points loss to Britain’s Amir Khan last December, a fight that was the culmination of a dip in form that started when he was lost his IBF title to pre-fight underdog Shawn Porter almost two years ago.

Tony Bellew/Arturs Kulikauskis Mis-Match Added to Underwhelming Night In Leeds

Aside from the headline fight, that pits the fanatically supported featherweight Josh Warrington against Aussie, Joel Brunker, Matchroom’s Leeds show on Saturday is turning out to be an absolute shocker, with the news today that Liverpool cruiserweight hopeful Tony Bellew (24-2-1, 15ko), will face Latvian journeyman Arturs Kulikauskis (16-26-5, 8ko), a man who has lost 4 of his last 6, and 7 fights in the last 12 months!!! – yes, you did read that correctly.

It is an extremely poor return to form for Eddie Hearn and the heavily criticised domestic mis-match shows of earlier this year, that, in Leeds especially, are reliant only on massive ticket seller Warrington, and his army of football fans, to make the events – often beset with last minute changes – worthwhile.
