Canelo: ‘Ready for Golovkin’

After capturing the WBC middleweight title against Miguel Cotto in their highly entertaining fight in Las Vegas last night, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has stated that he will happily fight destructive Kazakh champ, Gennady Golovkin, in accordance with his ‘anybody/anytime’ boxing philosophy.

Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to the title held by Alvarez, and going into last night’s fight, ‘Canelo’ had been reluctant to answer questions about the WBA/IBF boss, who had stepped aside to allow the fight with Cotto to happen.

Klitschko Needs WBC Strap says Lennox Lewis

Fury: ‘I’ll Make Klitschko Look a Fool’

Tyson Fury has promised his fans that he is out to ‘humiliate’ long-dominant heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko, when he challenges for the Ukrainian’s WBO/WBA/IBF heavyweight titles in front of a 56,000 capacity crowd at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, this Saturday.

Martin Murray: ‘I’m at a Crossroads Now’

Britain’s Martin Murray has admitted that his career is now at a crossroads after last night’s split decision loss to Arthur Abraham in Germany, that saw the champion retain his WBO 168 lb strap.

When attempting to compare and rank the unbeaten streaks of various fighters it is essential to consider the quality of the opponents that they defeated. If this is not done, Nioklay Valuev’s 47 fight run would rank ahead of George Foreman’s 40 fight undefeated streak. With all due respect to the often underrated “Russian Giant”, this would be ludicrous.

So, determining the quality of each “opponent” is important. The fairest and most objective way to do this – in this writer’s opinion – is to judge each boxer against the standard of the era in which he fought.

Haskins New IBF Bantamweight Champion as Caballero Weighs in 5.5lb Over!

Englishman Lee Haskin’s has become the IBF bantamweight champion by default after Randy Caballero tipped the scales at yesterday’s weigh-in at 123.5 lbs, a full 5.5 lbs over the sanctioned limit.

The two were set to meet on the Cotto/Canelo undercard tonight in Las Vegas for the Californian’s strap, yet after the weigh-in debacle and Haskins [correct] refusal to fight on at a catch-weight, he will return to the UK in a bittersweet mood as the new IBF titlist.
