I. BACKGROUND – The WBC heavyweight championship of the world was scheduled to be contested on May 21, 2016 in Russia. The Bout was Champion Deontay Wilder’s mandatory defense of his title against Mandatory Challenger Alexander Povetkin. The Bout was the result of a purse bid the WBC conducted and which promoter World of Boxing won.

On May 13, 2016 VADA reported to the WBC that Alexander Povetkin’s anti-doping test that had taken from his April 27, 2016 sample pursuant to the WBC Clean Boxing Program yielded an adverse finding for the banned substance Meldonium.

Wladimir Klitschko says he will take Tyson Fury to court “to protect my own rights and eventually see the rematch”

AIBA Statement On Olympic Boxing Results

Following recent judging decisions and after carrying out a thorough examination by the relevant Commission, AIBA has decided to take immediate and appropriate actions.

Since the beginning of the Olympic Games, AIBA has conducted 239 bouts. The AIBA R&J Commission has reviewed all decisions and determined that less than a handful of the decisions were not at the level expected and consequently it has been decided in accordance with the AIBA R&J evaluation committee that the concerned referees and judges will no longer officiate at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. In accordance with AIBA Rules the result of all the bouts will stand.

David Price really wants a shot at IBF heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua – the man he revealed last week he flattened in sparring many moons ago. Price, under new trainer Dave Coldwell, is finally finding his “nasty side,” according to the trainer who spoke with Sky Sports today. Coldwell says Price is “fed up of being ridiculed and written off,” and now has “the devil in him” as he trains and looks for his next fight.

Coldwell says Price will fight like the huge puncher he is from now on; so it’s goodbye, nice guy, hello merciless puncher. At least that’s what Coldwell says, and he is “loving it.”

Russian Tishchenko wins Heavyweight gold on Day Ten of Rio 2016 Olympic Boxing Tournament

Monday at Riocentro Pavilion 6 saw the second Olympic Boxing Final of Rio 2016, with Russian World Champion Evgeny Tishchenko and Kazakhstan’s Vassily Levit going for gold. It was Levit who started the brightest, edging the first round with some superb attacking combinations, but Tishchenko’s longer reach always looked a threat. A strong final round from the Russian proved decisive, and Tishchenko’s arm was raised to the delight of his corner and the hundreds of Russian fans in the arena.
